Different tone from Celtic, Ashley’s men

760

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what was different from last night’s performance to our previous outing against Ross County, and so many this season.  Kris Commons was on from the start, but our tone of play was different, even as Kris limped on the side-lines during the opening minutes.

How that tone was set is worth examining.  Celtic were denied an opportunity to train on Kilmarnock’s new artificial pitch, in a move demonstrating the hosts legendary welcome and sportsmanship, but when Ronny Deila spoke pre-match he made his position clear, “The pitch is great”.

One of my pet hates is hearing a player or manager establish a reason for failure before kick-off.  Record your complaints about the pitch, or even being denied the chance to become accustomed to it, and you’re subliminally setting yourself up for a fall.  It didn’t matter if a pitch is great or not, the manager and players have minutes to convince themselves it’s good enough for them to put on a show.  Nothing got in the way of Celtic’s can-do attitude yesterday.

Kris was phenomenal.  He got a hat-trick at Rugby Park last season and deserved no less this time, only the crossbar, twice, and some fine goalkeeping denied him.  In a team short of goals, his focus on the target is unceasing.  There were important Champions League games when he didn’t make the team under Neil Lennon, and there will be occasions when the game doesn’t suit him, but he’s the required fulcrum against a packed SPFL defence.

We’ve touched on this theme a couple of times but it doesn’t seem to be getting traction.  For two years shareholders now newco Rangers have been advised to step aside, or as now, sell control for £18m, in the best interests of the club.  No deal will be done until the best interests of the controlling shareholders are considered, any approach which doesn’t recognise this is no more than a distraction.

Newco have four directors, two non-execs, who do not work in the business on a daily basis, and two executives, who do.  The latter, chief executive Derek Llambias, and yesterday’s appointment of Barry Leach as financial director, both came from the Sports Direct stable.  They are the men working on fixing the funding gap.  It is inconceivable they will overlook the interests of investors.

On 27th of this month newco will face an SFA disciplinary hearing over an alleged breach of a written agreement not to allow Ashley influence at the club, in place before they appointed two former Sports Direct staff to the board.  I would be very surprised if the Sports Direct owner didn’t have the club’s short-term funding and his long-term security secured prior to that date.

Just listening to ssb …….these pundits are living in cloud coockoo land, they really are …. there is a consensus that Michael prompted the U.S. bid to force ming and the 3 berries to make a desperate move to buy shares (which ming had no intention of doing) ……. by doing so, Michael gets a nice little annual circa £7m earner, leaving ming and the 3 berries to find the money to keep the lights on ……. and, if they fail, he is the secure creditor….!! … Where are my Tick Tock sedatives / ice cream / jelly

Bristol City were liquidated. Someone posted a good link yesterday about all the English club’s. English league allowed them to stay in Ieague but said never again.

However that doesn’t excuse the fact that Doncaster is an incompetent disingenuous wretch. I couldn’t have put it better myself.

In my initial email to Mr.Doncaster I asked him if these were his opinions or had he discussed this with the clubs who make up the SPFL as you can see by his response he ignores my question and continues with the big con statements .

I have also emailed John Paul Taylor at Celtic asking him to pass on my emails to Peter Lawwell and asking for him to clarify whether Mr.Doncaster had discussed this statement with all other clubs before talking .

Mr.Doncaster has initially ( I’ll be back ) ignored the specifics of my question and up till now Celtic haven’t responded .

I wonder if the Celtic support would be allowed into any ground with any prospective ‘Doncaster Banner’. If they were, would it receive the same total blank SMSM gave the Aberdeen Banner at Motherwell?

  22. Kojo, didn’t read back appropriatly. Sorry about that. However, oor kids were last in the Merc Junior Cup and…….ManU kids won the competition, even if it was an indoor 6 a-side.

Not sure your excuses are relevant. We had one player who looked like he could front up (Aiden Nesbit). The rest were not fit for purpose; keeper kicking the ball long. Not sure what that is about, Frail is not a current football coach.

Well it will certainly give me a bit of satisfaction seeing the one club myth shattered in print.

Funny how I ain’t seen that before.

I guess it will help to articulate how we as Celtic supporters feel as our club aren’t doing it

‘The SPFL Rules (and the SPL Rules that preceded them) draw a distinction between a football club (“Club”) on the one hand, and the company that owns or controls the Club on the other hand. There is no suggestion that the Club is a legal entity or has a legal personality which is different from whatever is the legal entity or person which is the owner and operator of the Club.’

    _________________________

Other than saying that the rules ‘draw a distinction’ there’s nothing there to explain what that distinction is, nor any attempt to describe what the SPFL recognise as being a ‘club’. He does, though, tell us what this distinct club is not!

Neil Doncaster is a qualified solicitor, words are his stock in trade. As I see it, for something to have a ‘distinction’ it must exist, or at the very least, be possible to describe. It should also be possible to explain how, and why, the club exists side by side with the company, but this man of words doesn’t even try to do so.

Doncaster also says that LNS ‘acknowledged’ this distinction, but, of course, fails to explain how his Lordship’s ‘acknowledgement’ creates anything that can be considered decisive, in any way, legal or otherwise.

Outside of a court of law, LNS could acknowledge anything he wants, it wouldn’t make it a fact, and in reality carries no more weight than any other learned person’s opinion. He was actually being paid to observe the SPL rules, and his acknowledgement shows that that was what he was doing. Perhaps if he had cited case law to back this up, or even quoted company law, then his acknowledgement might have carried some weight, but he didn’t, and we know why.

In a whole paragraph regarding LNS only five words have anything to do with the matter at hand, and two of those words are ‘the’ and ‘was’, the rest of the paragraph is an effort to impress the addressee with His Lordship’s credentials.

The last paragraph is mere ‘whataboutery’, and for a man in his position to use that is quite pathetic.

What Doncaster says moves the OC/NC debate not one millimetre forward, but does show the man’s inability to make a case for his assertion, and perhaps explains why he doesn’t use his qualification as a solicitor to practice law.
