More pertinently what percentage of goals in Europe are due in part to Matthews errors.
A very weak link who can’t stop crosses at this level. Yes he played amazingly well v barca at Celtic park 2 years ago – as did the whole team – but more often than not he is a weak link and the opposition know it.
As soon as he came on at Celtic park v Maribor the Slovenians went straight at him and had scored within 3 minutes from a move where he could have stopped the cross but failed to do so.
He is getting badly caught up the park tonight as well. Fair enough little help is forthcoming from mcgregor but he really is powder puff and we are not good enough to carry passengers like him.
English Championship is his natural habitat. Links well going forward with Forrest in the SPFL but not a reliable defender for the Europa League.

Wakaso won’t earn a transfer…. If aloud to leave in January, won’t see anyone complaining.

Very familiar RD type of Euro performance, comical defending with missing defenders as the ball is knocked into the same channel, where they got two goals one of them luckily.
The difference between Motherwell and Zagreb is that they can hurt you, chances and goals for Celtic, but the sieve can’t support the ’system’.
Anything can happen in the second half, scoreline wise.
I hope we have conceded our quota of ridiculously soft goals for the evening. Efe has had one or two minor bombscare moments I hope he ‘s not building up to a big one.

Johansen mind you is lost in a defensive midfield role. It’s a disciplined role, and he is too busy, all over the park… Leaving big gaps.
For that, tonight he gets a 5.
For me though, our player of year thus far
Can’t believe how a few Hollywood passes can convince folk that Commons should be in our team… He has no work rate and is more often than not caught in possession in terrible areas. So so slow.
What does Mc Gregor bring to the team I cant see it he is a passenger? Matthews is a shadow of the player who came to Celtic.Our passing as usual is sloppy I was pleased to see Scepovic score it should help his confidence.I fear for us in the second half if we dont replace McGregor and improve our passing. Not surprised to hear that.
Alarm bells were ringing when I read this morning about delayed entry due to searches, at a match that was always going to be a minimal attendance.
This 4,2,3,1 system is a disaster for us in Europe, we cannot play that system away from home, or even try to play it
What has either McGregor or Wakaso done, either in attack or defence, cause nothing in midfield
I will repeat for those not watching
Mathews slipped for 2nd goal about 16-17 yards out, McGregor should have been there in support, where was he, (actually lost ball at start of move, incidentally)
Mathews will eventually get some confidence back, there is a decent player there

Matthews very poor once again ( Ambrose not much better, never a centre back), playing like someone who’s heart is not in it and wants to be somewhere else.

efe and commons “determined” to get caught in possession?
KC tried a much harder pass than was perhaps necessary earlier and put us on the back foot but they are both taking possession of the ball and trying to keep us in possession.
Apart from kc’s pass id say they have both done well.
Sorry guys. I disagree with the notion some of you are putting forward, that our problems are the mistakes of individual players. Look around the field. Ak yourself where the space is, and to whose advantage is it.
To a large degree we are playing with 4 up. Seriously.
Think of the good displays we have had this season. In virtually every case, we had a midfield 3.
Players look ‘shite’ when they are isolated, outnumbered or are too far away from their team mates.
We’re exposed down our right side. As usual, McGregor isn’t tracking back but, even worse, Matthews isn’t either! We need leaders on the pitch who can sort out obvious problems like this.
