DUFFY WARNS OF OLD PAL’S AXE

NEW Bhoy Shane Duffy has revealed Ibrox defender Connor Goldson told him NOT to join Celtic.

The Republic of Ireland centre-back completed his season-loan loan switch from Brighton this week and stands by to make his debut against Ross County in Dingwall on Saturday.

Duffy and Goldson were defensive partners and friends during their time together at the south coast club, but, clearly, there will be no old pals’ act when they get the opportunity to square up when the teams meet at Parkhead on October 17.

The 28-year-old lifelong Hoops fan has warned his old mate that once they cross that white line in the east end of Glasgow their friendship will be placed on hold.

Duffy, speaking to the Glasgow Times, said: “He actually told me not to come. He said: ‘Stay away!’ But we have a good relationship.

“I am very close with Connor from my Brighton days. It’s a difficult one. It’s different up here, but we are close so, yeah, it’s an awkward one!

“He is still my friend, so it’s hard to tell what will happen because the rivalry is so fierce.

“He’s a mate, but, listen, when I play against him, he won’t be a mate. He will be the exact same!”
