Dundee United 0-1 Celtic

940

Celtic did enough in the opening 16 minutes to put this game beyond Dundee United but only managed to score once, an excellent effort from Gary Hooper, before United tightened up and made a contest of the game.

Georgios Samaras sprung past the United defence inside the first 30 seconds and squared the ball across the six yard line but Stokes arrived a split-second late to convert. That signalled a period of relentless Celtic pressure as the home team found it impossible to get out of their own half or hodl any kind of possession.

Gary Hooper controlled a long clearlance inside the centre circle on 12 minutes before knocking the ball square to James Forrest, who had space to exploit.  Forrest drove forward before returning the pass to Hooper inside the box.  The Celtic striker turned outside Gunning before driving a shot low inside Dusan Pernis’ right had post to open the scoring.

Celtic continued to press forward with Forrest again involved in their most dangerous moves.  The young winger threaded a through ball to Anthony Stokes on the edge of the area before racing past the defensive line to meet the return pass on the volley but his shot struck Pernis.

Give-and-go football was proving effective for Celtic and on 41 minutes Cha Du-Ri played a one-two with Forrest but could not convert his shot.

Celtic were so dominant in the first half their only real concern must have been why they were not further ahead but the second half proved to be more of a contest.  Dundee United’s passing was poor all afternoon but Celtic slipped to their level, frequently succumbing to unforced errors.  The visitors were never in any trouble defensively but Neil Lennon decided to shake things up in midfield, and substituted central defender, Glenn Loovens, pulled Victor Wanyama back and brought Scott Brown into midfield.

The subsequent change, bringing Ki on for Stokes gave Celtic more athleticism and meant that the final few minutes, which are often tense when defending a one goal lead, were contested almost exclusively in the United half.  Fraser Forster had a few catches and the odd punch but had a relatively easy afternoon.

  1. petec well said sir, I’ll wager a friendly cyber pint with you that the GB will be flying a banner (at the hertz game) which displays something like

    “The Green Marist Brigade”

re the GB, I’ve met most of the blokes that run it and spoke often to a couple of them, politics were never in any of the conversations, you all must believe this, in my experience they only want to bring back the atmosphere to CP, that my fiends in Celtic is why the GB are being targeted, theyre successful in they’re aims therefore the establishment in Scotland don’t like them and want them silenced, but beware because you’re next! for singing in a loud manner that der hun don’t like.

The only way forward is what the Celtic supporters are doing, support the Green Brigade by becoming one…… it was Lenny last year and the GB this time round……..

We’re all GB’ers and we will be at (in heart and soul around the planet) every Celtic game, when the GB are targeted then so are we all, sing loud and proud, wave youre flags and sing, you know you want to!

do we need anyone in Jan ?

i think we should try to build on the

    steady base we currently have

    ****************************

I’d go for two, one top notch CH and another decent striker, my logic is that we’re forever weak in defence and need an experienced confident defender / organiser in there, we don’t have that. If Stokes and Hooper can play all season without injuries, illness and bookings I’d be surprised, we need another striker when one of them is out.

    Good post.

Football is about sublime bits of skill or brilliant passing moves. Not Ross Tokely, McCullough or anyone of a multitude of crap clodhoppers masquerading as footballers in this league.

Stewart Reagan really needs to get a handle on the Referees because unless he does, he is just as complicit as the Cheaters. 1 foul against? Shurely some mistake. The Celtic games are not where the Cockroach Refereeing Light should be shone anymore, it is whenever or wherever Rangers are playing.

I was really hopeful that the Referee thing would have been sorted going into this season. I’m sorry Auldheid but it definitely is still the same as it ever was, maybe Once in a Lifetime it will happen.

  8. Another thing thats been on my mind for a wee while and rekindled by a poster today, I think it was San Diego Bhoy, there used to be loads of Ameritims posting a few years back (maybe 4/5yrs), what stopped them posting? I remember Jinkysbhoy, myself and others had great craic with them mostly about American sports, but they all seem to have faded away, strange one that.

I liked Uly McGhee’s post today when he asked if posters could say where they were posting from, it was a bit of an eye opener and the thing I loved was that it encouraged lurkers to come into the community and post….. magic.

Pablo would have loved that I’d say.

Thats correct and the way it should be, but :¬) it wasn’t always like that, there have been many posters on this website and others that thought they were upstarts and troublemakers etc, I often hear that the GB are a bunch of wee daft boys (one of the reasons I left the Blackpool Shammy committee and club recently in fact), the goal is that we’re all together but IMO they will always be the singing section, if the Celtic support in the Celtic end, Jungle or main (auld) stand want to join in then all the better IMO, thats when we’re all together as a support, the only other time this happens is the collective singing of walk on.

I’m sure at the hertz game and leading up to the hun game the wall of noise around CP is just gonnae get better and better.

Yes but I was just wondering what was the post I made that made you so aggressive towards me earlier?

You said I’ve been calling posters huns all last week? thats what you said and you invited everyone to check out my posts over the last week where I was calling cqn’ers huns, I’ve not had a reply from my request to you and I note that you were off blog for a long time after I posted my request, if that means that you never found any posts over the last week (apart from the one to Coorslad) then why don’t you say say so and admit you picked on the wrong person.

I am pretty easy going on here and see both sides of an argument, aqnd if you’d care to look back to about 14:45 yesterday you’ll see me posting that I hate it when cqn’ers fall out with each other……. honestly quite why you started posting to me leaves me scratching my nut.

As I said apology accepted although I’d still like to see the posts where I’ve been calling cqn’ers huns all week, its possible someone hacked my logon but then I’d have noticed it and my cyber tim friends on here would have informed me that I was acting out of turn, so it doesn’t wash at all…… still waiting though.

Wait a minute, was you’re apology for posting about me when you meant someone else? if so then you should say so.
