Dutch travel sickness

757

Can we purge all negative overtones today, make sure we start tomorrow with a clean sheet?  Injuries and suspensions are part of the game, we accept them and plan how to win important games.

Celtic are at their best when they are up against it, when everyone knows that nothing short of a herculean effort is required.  This is the case tomorrow.  The requirement is straightforward enough: win your personal battle, inhibit one of the best teams we will play this season, take control of midfield and find spaces in the Ajax defence to exploit.

We have more than enough players bursting to set about this task.

Ajax had a taxing game on Saturday, scoring late to secure a draw away to top of the table Twente.  Although fourth, they are one of six teams no more than two points off the pace in what is currently one of Europe’s tightest leagues, but there is a fragility about Ajax.

The game against Twente was their first away match after a run of four home games, three of which were won comfortably, while they were denied a win against Milan by a ridiculous penalty in added time.  Their away form, however, has been less than impressive; they are still waiting for their first win away from the Amsterdam ArenA this season.  As a result, they travel to Celtic Park with the same trepidation they travelled to Groningen, Heerenveen, Twente, AZ, Barca and PSV, a series of games which returned three draws and three defeats.

Dutch media have also been reminding them of a quirky record to maintain.  While Celtic eliminated Ajax the last twice the teams met in European Cup/Champions League duty, the Dutch avoided defeat on both games at Celtic Park.  For us, this is a meaningless fact, but it is an added burden of expectation on Ajax.

We need to develop something to identify ourselves to each other

Those of a certain age will remember the Famous Wullie Malloy CSC of the 1980’s. Quite an easy way to enquire if one was a fellow Wullie. One simply had to ask what colour a chaps wullie (membership card) was? A yellow, green, red answer meant you were with a fellow Wullie a punch in the gob meant you weren’t – simples?

PFAyr- In think it’s very difficult to grow cabbage, cauliflower etc and work fulltime.

You can leave for work and everything is tic tickety boo and when you come home the entire crop’s reduced to confetti.

corkcelt- there are CQN badges, in various versions.

I think a new one is being produced next year, for the 10th anniversary of the bhlog.

  7. Heard about badges ok Dontbrattbakkinanger, but do people wear them going to matches. I’m going for a week to Torremolinos on the 29th Oct plan to bring my CQN golf tee shirt (kindly given to me by kikinthenakas) and will wear it when I go into a Celtic Pub. God it sounds like going on a blind date.

After the fourth goal the commentator on R5 said, “it’s a long way back for Palace now”.

And that’s when they are playing at home.

  12. I have been reliably informed that due to the age demographic of CQN that Zimmers with flashing CQN logos will replace badges as a means of identifying fellow posters.

Brilliant I can complete the set with the March 1971 and the 2001 versions if I can get the technology to work.

Something for us to put right tomorrow is that they are the only team to have played at CP twice or more in the Big Cup and not have lost at least once.

Nah, Unlike Sevco Homeland is improving every week, but like Sevco Breaking Bad just ran out of steam and came to an all to predictable clichéd end

Oglach- Homeland in difficult 3rd series territory.

The idea that Brody gets ‘rescued’ only to end up a prisoner again is an interestin’ one but they can’t have him spendin’ too much time in a building site in Caracas.

  19. Have Celtic made a complaint to Hibs about the comments of their player about our manager? Have Hibs made any comment about him? Only in Scotland and only against a Celtic mhan would such nonsense not be utterly condemned by all and sundry.

CQNers are recognised by their sharp clothes and expensive poof juice.

When I first met 16 Roads at the recent CQN Big Day Oot, I was not convinced he was speaking English. By the end of the night I understood him perfect.

  21. Re identifying ourselves – if you can pop over to the Facebook page for CQN Magazine I have just posted a pic of the new CQN hats. These ones have the CQN logo on one side and your own blog name on the other (you can get with one of these things and not the other if you prefer). The idea comes from the guys at the CQN Golf in June and there are also sweatshirts on the way – again with your name on them. The hats are great – and will be perfect for identifying a CQNer and seeing who it is. Will be available with the CQN Annual. Anyone who wants to order can start a list

Then whilst looking in a local jewellers window, I saw a small lapel version of this flower, why don’t we all buy one of those small badges and wear them to show each other we’re part of this forum…!
