Fantastic Juninho sensationalism

859

Celtic have been dragged into a former club’s scandal today by Scotland’s former best-selling daily newspaper, who have completely misrepresented issues surrounding the registration of Juninho.

The newspaper makes the astonishing and completely inaccurate claim that the “SPL have revealed they decided not to investigate Celtic’s EBT payment to Juninho”.

The SPL have investigated Celtic’s EBT payment to Juninho.  They found Celtic acted absolutely in line with the rules and this week issued a statement confirming this.  To tell people otherwise is recklessly inaccurate.

A front page statement proclaims:

“Hoops in clear because Juninho only received cash AFTER he left the club”

Utter nonsense.  It’s a bit like saying:

“Hoops in clear because Juninho’s name begins with the letter J”

A true reflection would read:

“Hoops in clear because they discharged the registration and entire employment process of Juninho in a correct manner and no differently than the way every other SPL club has registered players”

When Juninho “received the cash” has nothing whatsoever to do with Celtic being “in the clear”.  It is, frankly, an embarrassing attempt to pander to the paranoia of others and betrays a fundamental lack of knowledge.

The newspaper also dedicated all-but-one column of their back page, and part of an inside page, to the ‘story’ of how Celtic “didn’t end up in the dock”.  Compare this to the coverage the same newspaper gave to the actual SPL statement on Juninho, released in an earlier attempt to dampen-down ill-informed paranoia, which received a tiny, 35-word, 1-inch back page note and a single column inside the paper.

Throughout recent weeks a basic misunderstanding of the legality of EBTs appears to have taken root in some minds.  It is as though some mass psychological phenomenon is at play.  Or maybe it’s just a deliberate attempt to confuse the easily confused?

EBTs are not against football, or specifically, player registration, rules.  This is accepted as fact by anyone even vaguely familiar with the rules, yet we have some, who should know better, tell us that Rangers’ EBTs were recorded in their annual accounts, as though this is some defence against player registration charges, or that others should join them ‘in the dock’, because they used an EBT.

The matter in hand is not the use of EBTs, it’s about player registrations.  You can pay players in EBTs, folding notes or Dutch tulip bulbs, as long as you register him correctly.  And pay your tax.

Player registration rules are categorically clear, clubs must register all contracts with the SFA and SPL.  All monies due in relation to football must appear on those contracts.  Juninho’s contract was registered correctly.

On this issue, Celtic are exposed to the joint analysis of other 11 SPL clubs and the other 93 SFA clubs (counting both Ibrox based clubs), who control the rules and their scrutiny.

There are limits to what an employer can publicly reveal about a former employee’s personal financial details, but Celtic have revealed all facts concerning Juninho’s employment to the SFA and SPL.

Their conduct was investigated, was found to be absolutely and completely impeccable AND in line with SFA advice on player registration.

All I am wondering about is, should we be happy that those who should be planning for some serious headwinds are instead following a ridiculous wild goose chase?

I think so.  That being the case, what are people trying to divert attention from?  Hmmm.

Last week I met John Maguire, managing director of Celtic Development Pools. John’s been there for 30 years, the enthusiasm for youth player development is tangible when you listen to him talk. He’s at the coal face, raising money for the enormous youth development project which brings players like James Forrest into the club, and also polished Tony Watt into the exciting talent he is.

The ‘Pools predate my time but today’s fabulous harvest of young talent was made more possible by the Paradise Windfall, which now pays £15,000 each home game and has been the largest lottery in world football for years. Income from the Pools and Paradise Windfall generates around £1.5m each season.

The coaches at Lennoxtown (and most fans) know how important it is for Celtic’s youth scouting and development to be the very best it can be. It has to be world class. For the guys at the Pools office, the challenge is clear, fund this ambition.

To this end, this weekend the Development Pools launch TikPick. For £1 you can win a cash prize for predicting 10 results. It’s not a lot of money and none of it will go towards putting fuel in a £100k motor car. This is a grass-roots level investment in our future.  Go take a look here.

Paddy McCourt is undoubtedly a talented player. However, you make a moot point about successive Managers not persevering with him. He was a punt at £250k.

I will support and roar him on tomorrow and every game he plays but he would not be in my starting eleven.

    Keep the Faith!

  4. been a really bad week for football on and off the park, my usual state the bleeding obvious comment. Thankfully I can also state the obvious again by saying we have a lot to look forward to over the next 5 days, proper football back on the menu.

Any word if the St Johnstone virus scare will allow any chance of a postponement?

It’s not a moot point mate.

The fact that Paddy only cost £250,000 has absolutely no relevance to successive managers not picking him on a regular basis.

Like you, I will cheer him on and chant his name but I think the sooner he moves on the better for all concerned.

  6. Donbratbakkinanger, hope you’re still on line.Read your last couple of posts and many previous and you obviously love history as I do. RE the Vandals made me think again that only themselves and the Huns who both moved on (N. Africa)or back (the steppes) have retained their evit reputation whilst most that stayed have a much changed heroic image.

Kit Carson-many a christmas album (and Buffalo Bill-better done) to delight in! Read Blood and Thunder a while back ,knew plenty beforehand especially about the Navahoes (American Indians my all time favourite subject). What shook me was my old hero joining the Sant Fe hand shakers although in my youth (before Scotland) I would just have thought he was making adobe bricks but strange?

Also talk of favourite fims the other day, mine wasn’t mentioned -Cool Hand LUke, Paul Newman (my second son named after him-you can imagine my dismay when a whole tribe of little Luke Skywalkers appeared years later). However a small list :-

Blood Brother by (think I was only 14 or so) Eliot Arnold/ Broken Arrow the movie James Stewart and Jeff Candler and Debra Paget as Sonseearay (a brown beauty with black hair in bunches still gives my heart a lift).

The Searchers, The Unforgiven (Burt Lancaster) by Alan Le May

Little Big Man by Thomas Berger, an even funnier and just as accurate years before ,must make you laugh,

The Travels of Jamie McWhorter (spelling?) Need to check this one.

People here have spoken about the Irish in the Mexican War, The St. Patricks Brigade by James Alexander Thom- not read it but his others well researched etc., Panther in the Sky about Tecumseh..

All for now well late in the Land of Smiles, look forward to updates tomorrow.

Hope you read this and maybe get in touch.

I know we only get to hear a small sample of hun viewpoints, whether it be in work or on radio. But if they’re all like that then God help us. Every day brings yet another doze of insanity, with Green leading them off like the pied piper of Govan. The hun bird just finished gum bumping on snyde really summed them up (she’ll be quoted by now).

You’d think that some of their own kind would tell them to put a sock in it, instead of embarrassing everyone who supports Sevco.

Btw, for me, a by-product of the hun scandal is McCoist being found as the deluded bigot he really is.

  9. Hey boys I want to say sorry. I have been blinded by divide and conquer. I dont repent my long term goal of a more equitable and fairer distribution of resources but I do, repeat am, a total pragmatist now. I mocked certain theories, yet other than their being lizards out their or aliens, I was totally wrong. I have been enlightend. Not elightend in the same manner as the dark forces out there.Only chaos can never bring order and order can only come from the divine. Bad people can do good things, thats what we all need to remember, our allies in this cosmos may come from unexpected sources, although we should not trust these people in any way. Harmony, Peace, Liberty are well overated, destruction, holiness and faith are virtues not espoused often enough. Yes lets have Liberty from Liberty, lets tell our fellow man that they are not supposed to do “what thou whilt” lets spend our money very carefully, on things that are pure and virtuous. A war, a war on secret socities that convinced us all they did not exist or where odd but nothing to be concerned with. A war, a war on those who implant signs of their foolishness everywhere. A compass is used to guide, but that only works when the person is aware of why they have intuition, of who gave them it and of how much they sacrificed for us to continue on.

A war, a war on the nihilistic and gnostics, A war, a war on those agitating for destruction, A prayer, a prayer for our selves and those we fight. A prayer , A prayer for the one true light to shine so bright that false flames hypnozing as light get shattered and broke. A prayer, a prayer that we are ready to let go of our hold on everything, for a higher purpose.

The only secret is that we will fight back in secret, we will not fall either for double agents, well known double agents who have cast a spell by displaying their allegiance in front of our very eyes, who claim to be against the system, when they are the system. Many of even the informed have in their clamour for a saviour, in their clamour for a way back of some control on things of a way of bring humanity back to humanity have put their faith in the first mirage who appeared in front of them. Think critically. Look for the signs. Think ” is there something off about this?” I hope they find the answer I found, for putting effort into a mirage weakens the cause further.

The Division Three table just came up on Sky there – Sevco third.

That’s as close as I’ve come to following their fortunes on the pitch.

It’s great. They really are an irrelevance as a football team.

It’s fantastic. I love it. We’re preparing for the Champions League and their moronic leadership is playing to the gallery, like a circus act.

  13. My local newspaper the Annandale Observer has the following front page headline screaming out ‘ Town ready for Old Firm Giants’, it then goes on to tell all and sundry about the benifits the town will receive from the visiting hordes who will descend into this little part of Dumfries&Galloway, talking to one of the regulars who frequents the Shed Pub in Annan, he tells me he is being denied the chance to watch the Celtic Game live in same pub, because the Police have told the owner he is not put the match on, but it is ok to put anyother match on the big screens on, along with all the other matches they show over a football weekend and also they have to take down all the football shirts that they have up on their wall this of course was not reported in the paper, will let you all know next weeks headlines and incidents

Last week when you made a comment about Slovak and Poles I asked one of the CQNers if your accusations were right? I got the answer, No, these accusations were nonsense. I got few lines of text telling why your so called facts were not true.

First, I have been waiting for your another post telling it was your bad moment when you wrote that post, especially after fine Snake Plissken explanation. There was no reply from you. Today I see why my expectations were stupid. While scrolling back I noticed you repeated your opinions and said they were based on hard facts. There was something more today – “Poles and Slovak have bad impact on the level of your life”.

Let me say something out. I have German roots. In 1986 when I started University in Warsaw, one from my family who lived near Munchen told me he got job for me, place at the Uni there and flat. I decided to stay here. I can give plenty of reason for my decision was right. One of them is that live in a country that is my homeland. Going somewhere and hear what you have to say would sadden me. You know, we Poles are stupid nation, very hyper-proud. I’m very likely above the average line.

    Z. who is very happy that he has not that bad influence on the level of your life.

  16. Lol No we have a grave threat. I have to suspend my monetary equality drive. We need to unite with whoever is for the lamb, even if they happen not to believe in the lamb or that all men are equal. We need to fight those who are trying to promote a horrid world. The signs are every where. False Flags etc. Btw do you know who I referred to as double agents? Their very name should have been a massive warning, a sign of their deceit. The fact they were even allowed to exist, if they were who they claimed, further proof of something dark.

    The mind games are everywhere.
