Focus on nothing else

Hibernian thumped Livingston 4-0 last time out, one of only two games they avoided defeat since going down 6-1 at Celtic Park on 15 October.  They lost their other five games and have slipped to 7th spot in the table, albeit six teams around them, half the league, are withing two points of each other.

We won at Easter Road in January 2014, but the only two wins in our 12 subsequent visits there came when Tom Rogic took control of events last season, and Scott Brown played a similar role on Scottish Cup duty, in Neil Lennon’s first week back in charge in 2019.  Most of these games have been against nondescript Hibs sides that achieved little else.

On this field Celtic suffer.  We can afford focus on nothing else.

  1. Good afteenoon, friends and Happy Midweek Matchday!

Hopefully following tonight’s game against Hibs the voting numbers will increase back to their usual levels. As usual, the voting will close at 10.00pm tomorrow night but as I have yet another festive gathering with 2 very dear lifelong friends then I think it’s best to delay issuing the results until Friday morning. I don’t want 2 and 2 equalling five!

  2. Let them attack us at their peril ..,take out the MIBS/VAR Celts and play your best game ..if you do there will only be one conclusion …Hail Hail

  3. PhilCool,

I’d go for Reo again. 2 goals and MOTM suggest it is worth repeating.

We get another fine footballer on the field to supplement the others.

I’d give Haksa the number 10 in front of Callum and Mooy.

    In Ange we trust.

Agree on Sead, but, I think O’Riley instead of Mooy, por cierto

  5. MELBOURNE MICK@11.45

MICK re the Motherwell game in 1966. I was watching you up on you the roof of their shed because I was in the main stand that day. One of the ‘adults’ I went to the games with at the time knew wee Jinky well and the wee man appeared with some briefs before the game. Lo and behold it was for the main stand so I was sitting in comfort while you and your mates were dicing with death on the roof.

Happy days, not a great game, but exciting and very significant, being the first of the original NINE.

  7. I keep reading reports of Juranovic being available for around 8M.

Have there been any credible stories about a release clause in his contract?

  8. Hoople,

Few clickbait sites suggest that’s what’s in his contract but have heard the club is looking £15m+ for him, which seems modest but certainly better for us. Over £20m would be my ballpark.

  9. I don’t pay any attention to past results and bogey grounds. Events of 2014 matter nothing tonight.

Hibs are not a good side. They can’t defend and will give us plenty of chances to score tonight.

As always, it’s all about us doing our jobs. Do that and not even VAR can stop us.

    3 points tonight, Celtic.

  10. I’d play Jota tonight. Admittedly, he hasn’t been good recently but tonight will not be a night where he’s double marked and facing two blocks of five.

Let’s let him enjoy the extra space tonight and get him up to speed for Monday.

  11. Well another matchday for our beloved Celtic and I can bet more controversy with VAR.

Not so much with VAR but the cheats that are running it.

Celtic board please wake up and stand up for our club. Ya spineless bunch of liars.

  12. catching up on recent msm press ramblings.

I see mcgowan of the mail quoting something that is doing my head in wrt actual accuracy.

its being flung around that jamesy joins jinky as the only players to have 100+ goals and 100+ assists.

as admirable as that is, i find it incredible that the greats of the past are not recorded and therefore its a big unknown,

reading mccallum, sweeney and others there is tale after tale of great indivudual performances, and how much the great goalscorers were part of multi scoring forward play, and set up play for others.

Patsy springs to mind, surely playing for 15 seasons alongside quinn then mcgrory, scoring 195 himslef, surely hje set up as many ?

same for Lemon, and how many did henrik set up ? or dalglish when in midfield.

pisses me off that they pass they things of as factual.

    arsehole mcgowan.

    ———–

He went on to play for Celtic for 15 years from 1911 to 1925, featuring in 491 games in all competitions.[10] In 464 games in major competitions Patsy scored 195 goals. Today he ranks as Celtic’s sixth highest goalscorer behind Jimmy McGrory, Bobby Lennox, Henrik Larsson, Stevie Chalmers and Jimmy Quinn.[11] With Gallacher added to the lineup, Celtic won six Scottish League titles, four Scottish Cups, four Glasgow Cups and eleven Glasgow Charity Cups.[12][3]

One of his most famous moments came in the ‘Patsy Gallacher’ Scottish Cup Final of 1925 against Dundee, when he barged from behind in a packed penalty area and somersaulted over the goal line with the ball between his feet into the net for a goal.[13] This last winner’s medal came 13 years after his first in 1912.

  13. Celtic Legend Aaron Ramsey, has still not reported back to Monaco,as he’s still not recovered from Wales getting horsed in the World Cup …….seriously……what an absolute con man …..

You are dead right about these journos who are telling US about Celtic goalscoring history. It doesn´t in fact make sense to even talk about Jinky´s “assists”, because that terminology “assist” has only recently been introduced to football. What he and his like are doing really is limiting Jimmy Johnstone´s achievements. I imagine with a name like McGowan he is Scottish, but he has no interest or respect for the greatest player Scotland ever produced. How sad is that for scottish football journalism.

As you point out, Patsy Gallacher is where the news is, if someone is quoting records about Celtic Football Club. I myself clocked only just a couple of months back how many goals Patsy scored in his career. Nearly 200! To this day seventh in the ranking as you show. And he was a magician with the ball, how many goals could he have set up? I first read of his talents in Hugh Taylor´s Great Masters of Scottish Football published in 1967, Stanley Paul , who also published the Playing for Celtic set. I got it as a Christmas present in about 1970. I didn´t like the book at the time because there was very little about Celtic in it and we were Kings of Europe then. However there is a chapter on a Celtic player and it was about Patsy Gallacher, called the Mighty Atom. It describes in great detail the famous sommersault goal Patsy pulled off in the scottish cup final of 1925. In more recent years I have read up on him and have heard stories of how older Celtic fans rated him so much.

Even if we did have the best footballer in the world in Scotland, a Mail journalist would soon scotch the idea.

After one of Jimmy Johnstone´s great displays in Europe the French press called him The Human Flea. What is Messi´s nickname? La Pulga ( The Flea )

Thanks for your reply regarding Juranovic.

I hope these stories are the usual nonsesnse.

  18. I would add a lot of the same matches as Burnley78 but I would squeeze in October 2nd 1968 when we overcame a 2:0 deficit to St. Etienne. We were still at 0:0 with a minute to go in the first half when Big Tam opened our account with a penalty that the French team protested strongly. Two early goals in the 2nd half saw us in the driving seat and I remember one that was one of Jinky’s unacknowledged assists.

Ronnie Simpson had to make more than one great save to prevent us going out on away goals but Joe McGoals scored the insurance goal 3 minutes from the end. I think me and my pals were still at the back of the Celtic end for 15 minutes after the final whistle before we walked home that night

  21. First reminder to get tonight’s Superbru predictions in- First set of prizes to be awarded. Will ATOB hold off the challenge of Leggy? Will Ayrshire Tim hang on to 3rd place prize money from half a dozen challengers? Will Apple’s prognosticating dug propel him further up the table? Will Craig76 catch up with the other stragglers?

All this and more will be answered in the next 5 hours and, so long as Celtic win, we’ll all be too happy to notice.
