Forrest, Christie and Turnbull

962

James Forrest’s injury in September happened three days before Jeremie Frimpong’s best performance of the season, in the home win against Hibs.  I remember using the MVP acronym for Jeremie at the time.  Team form until that point was patchy: wins with alarming defensive performances and an unmitigated disaster against Ferencvaros.  The team shape was clearly wrong and pushing Jeremie forward in James absence seemed logical.

It was the first of many changes I wanted to see, each followed by a realisation that we were groping around in the darkness, until Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull became the central points of a midfield diamond.  Having (hopefully) fixed the fundamental tactical problem, James return to full training offers Neil Lennon the flexibility he is denied on the right and enhances his option in the middle.

Ryan Christie is well short of his best form in a Celtic shirt but all of those best performances came when he played through the middle.  He can cover for James and offer options on the right while giving the manager a different option when he wants to swap out David Turnbull in the 10 position.

  1. All this talk about defenders and WGS got us to the ET against the winners, AC Milan, in the last 16 of the CL with a back 4 of

Telfer, Caldwell, McManus and Naylor with Evander Sno protecting them.

Really amazing, looking at that now.

Boruc was in the form of his life, then, though – makes a big difference.

    Best centre half Newcastle have

Guy says KT is Arsenal’s best player, wonder if Liam Brady still thinks he’s only worth half his transfer fee😕

Was Benkovic no a bit of a sicknote anyway??

I thought he was similar to VVD in that he never seemed flustered , after the injury has he ever recovered fully .

  7. We have known how long Jullien was going to be out for over a week.

I take it that the coaching staff, going by Kennnedy’s comments, were very keen on Benkovic.

Any forward thinking CEO would have had Benkovic already signed on loan and at the club.

Our problem is that the cancer at the heart of the club does the negotiating in his role as unofficial general manager.

Root out the cancer and the club can move on.

Keeping the cancer means never achieving our potential.

  8. i know nothing about facebook twitter etc, i’ve been told you can keep your name secret

so is it possible a supporter from another team could have posted about Bitton and his

    family

  9. I see Jack Hendry is attracting attention from Aston Villa and another Premiership team ,Give him another crack at Centre Half ,can’t be any worse than Duffy ,and Bitton,I felt for Jack I think that a lot of Celtic fans were never of his back, and like plenty of others his confidence went ,So forget about Gallagher at Motherwell and Bencovic at Leicester who never got really tested when he played for us ,and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring all the loaness back ,I don’t trust Lennon being given money in this transfer window to buy players

    Yes.

Could have been a pig ignorant Celtic fan, could have been a hun or could have been someone offended by a section of the Celtic support being critical of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians.

  11. KT having a great game!

Seems to play wide left in a midfield 5.

His off the ball movement is amazing.

We will probably be chasing that big plank Andy Carroll in a couple of seasons going by our scouting system

  15. lets all do the huddle on

Carroll may be a big plank in a couple of seasons, but he’s doing fine tonight.
