Forrest, Christie and Turnbull

James Forrest’s injury in September happened three days before Jeremie Frimpong’s best performance of the season, in the home win against Hibs.  I remember using the MVP acronym for Jeremie at the time.  Team form until that point was patchy: wins with alarming defensive performances and an unmitigated disaster against Ferencvaros.  The team shape was clearly wrong and pushing Jeremie forward in James absence seemed logical.

It was the first of many changes I wanted to see, each followed by a realisation that we were groping around in the darkness, until Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull became the central points of a midfield diamond.  Having (hopefully) fixed the fundamental tactical problem, James return to full training offers Neil Lennon the flexibility he is denied on the right and enhances his option in the middle.

Ryan Christie is well short of his best form in a Celtic shirt but all of those best performances came when he played through the middle.  He can cover for James and offer options on the right while giving the manager a different option when he wants to swap out David Turnbull in the 10 position.

  1. We are in some mess.

With lawwell in charge who could have predicted this?

If you were playing in england or anywhere else for that matter, would you rather sign for Gerrard and sevco or Lennon and Celtic?

I’m not an expert but my best guess is that he needed to be seen by the senior medical staff who would all have been in Dubai.

  3. I normally have no time for the mad conspiracy theories that circulate on the web.

However, after this fiasco, I am tempted to believe that we are deliberately allowing the new huns to win the league, in hope of rebuilding the “old firm”.

The only other answer is that the Celtic establishment are arrogant and out of touch (not only with their fans, but with the wider community suffering from the international pandemic), or simply stupid.

  4. So it looks like we have been lucky not to have had a breakout up to now; many more clubs being affected in this wave/variant. Derby County being the most recent and worst example (first team and u23s mostly quarantined leaving the youths to get beat by Chorley)

Really interesting team sheet tonight then and also who is in the dugout?

Julienne would have been up the front of the coach/plane so I assume that is how the Gov worked out the contacts

  5. Did Julienne go to Dubai? He was injured. Seen at the airport on crutches but not with any team mates. Was he going elsewhere for treatment?

If not, it means he got it BEFORE we went to Dubai. And going to Dubai has no bearing on the self isolation now imposed.
