Forrest, Christie and Turnbull

962

James Forrest’s injury in September happened three days before Jeremie Frimpong’s best performance of the season, in the home win against Hibs.  I remember using the MVP acronym for Jeremie at the time.  Team form until that point was patchy: wins with alarming defensive performances and an unmitigated disaster against Ferencvaros.  The team shape was clearly wrong and pushing Jeremie forward in James absence seemed logical.

It was the first of many changes I wanted to see, each followed by a realisation that we were groping around in the darkness, until Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull became the central points of a midfield diamond.  Having (hopefully) fixed the fundamental tactical problem, James return to full training offers Neil Lennon the flexibility he is denied on the right and enhances his option in the middle.

Ryan Christie is well short of his best form in a Celtic shirt but all of those best performances came when he played through the middle.  He can cover for James and offer options on the right while giving the manager a different option when he wants to swap out David Turnbull in the 10 position.

  1. CELTICMAC – seems ScotGov toying w Celtic, mibbys just to support its own PR aims. Ie

    1 You’re OK to go.

    2 They now question that trip

    3. We report an infection

    4 Post Dubai must isolate – but you’z’re OK

    5 Naw, yer mibby not after all… ad nauseum…

    Obv we’re outgunned on the PR front by a hun-centred meeja system

    But don’t we have any Issues or Risk management frameworks to help us make high quality decisions?

    Kills me to watch us stumble from firefight to firefight, some of the fires being of our own ignition. HH

  2. With all the discussions could someone explain how anyone who had been in the country and going about their routine for 7 days could isolate for 10 days from their arrival, I seem to be really stupid

  3. Who let this JK give a press conference?

    ” Speaking on Saturday, assistant manager John Kennedy said Celtic were guilty of “minor slip-ups” in Covid-19 protocols during their stay in the Middle East.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Well done John you have just made the case for the prosecution.
    This is ironic as he has proved that he can’t make a case for our defence… ( see what I did there?)
    ‘Just as keen….’
    I know you’re a disciple of exactitude.
    So, just to be clear, you’re saying that those Celtic fans who have criticised the Dubai trip for an array of reasons have done so because they’re ‘just as keen’ to see Celtic harmed?
    Well there you go.
    Now given that ScotGov appear to taking decisions after the fact, and apparently seeking to apply them to us, and others it has to be said, after the fact, I am going to stand by Celtic. Not about PR for me at this point, it is about the complete misuse of government protocol, in this case from Edinburgh.
  6. Well Dubai killed the huns’ title hopes last year it could very well have put the final nail in the coffin for us this year. 🙁🙁
    Unless DD put his hand in his pocket to pay for it then it was the ST holders, who had to stay at home, that paid for the trip.
  7. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on
    Just heard a rumour that Sevco will go into Administration by mid-February.
    Seems VAT payments previously deferred are now due and cannot be paid.
    Social taxes also understood to be in significant arrears.
    Apparently those in the corridors of power are aware of this.
    Reports too that the media have been told to keep a lid on it.
    Rumour goes on there are fears of significant unrest – “Trump like” is the quote – if the horrible mob don’t win the title, hence the accelerated efforts to call the league as early as possible.
    Astounding if true.
  8. My thoughts always have been that sevco couldn’t afford to go to Dubai this year. So they spun it. They were skint going into this season and fleece their fans,- likely low in even cash-flow, probably in debt.
    Refereeing at 2011/2012 levels- coincidence?
    They know the “no-one likes us we don’t care” did not help in previous admin, the liquidation.
    Extraordinary attempts at dividing our support by msm.
    Board not panicking even with what appears a perfect storm of a season against us/for them.
    They would riot and worse in admin and points deduction.
  9. BACKTOBASICS…
    If true, WOW indeed and could explain some of the club’s calm inaction on key football matters.
    Seeing how far back we’re trailing tho, I fear some blue knight will step fwd to get thems over the line.
    Hope and pray they are metaphorically torpedoed.
    The exactitude is there in the sentence and omniscience isn’t that hard when you quote the poste’;s own words.
    James Forrest, a prominent Celtic blogger and supporter described the trip as a “Jolly Boy’s outing (on steroids) sic” and a “mini-holiday” and as “jetting off for some sun” and a “mini-break”
    He is not alone in stating these views. When our own are inclined to frame the narrative to align with what the huns are calling it, I think the charge stands.
    BTW- did you not read that here? Were you unaware of it? If so, what’s with the omniscience jibe? If you were reading, you’ld have to ddisplay deliberate and slantedd ignorance to have not seen it.
    Now, some bloggers and a few club spokespepe have taken a measured response to this. I commend Niall J on The Celtic Star site for being measured and he is critical of Celtic but not hysterically so.
  11. The Taking the Knee initiative on behalf of BLM and other anti-racist approaches remains sadly necessary as the abuse directed at our won Jonathan Afolabi this weekend has shown.
    Long may our club remain in the forefront of any movement calling this out.
    The KKK mob was emboldened enough to rise up against a legitimate government vote. We have a small minority, very active on social media, who are willing to don the black shirt and blusshirt philosophies of 100 years ago. Give them not one inch!
  12. Good morning cqn from a damp, dark but mild Garngad.
    Hopefully we get to see our beloved Hooos tonight, I cannot wait.
    I am not even going to gave a guess as to what the team will be.
    Let’s put on a show, lay down a new marker and try and win every league game from now to the end of the season, I think we can do that.
    COYBIG
  13. The problem with a ” Are we elite sportsmen or not” it allows some we Hun sitting somewhere rubbing his hands and saying “awe naw Celtic urnae elite sportsman” in other words it allows someone else to make decisions.
    We know we cannot rely on anyone in this country to make fair and impartial decisions, not judges, not people who Govern our game, not referees heck not even our own feckin board but that’s another story.
    That’s why its astounding that we thought a “non essential” trip to Dubai was needed.
    D :)
  14. The hand of God on
    Good morning….I made a mistake in responding to the racist troll,he responded with a jibe befitting a 12 year old,please dont give him the dignity of a response.
  15. Lubo….. Of all the things that could pis* you off at the minute…. You happen to come out with that one?!!!!……. Deary me..
  16. I’ve only one thing to add this morning. Radio Scotland are going overboard with constant condemnation of the Dubai trip. It makes me think the rumour that the deid team are in dire financial straits may well be true.
  17. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on
    Good morning all.
    Actually hope the practice of “taking the knee” goes on for years.
    But, potent though the symbolism is, there has to be something tangible (and substantial) happening in the background alongside to actually change things?
    Otherwise it runs the risk of becoming an empty gesture.
    For me there are parallels with “clap for health workers”……
    ….. all very visible – but I suspect they would be more appreciative of a reliable supply of PPE, increased NHS capacity and the kind of pay rise the government recently announced for the army.
    Hail hail
    ‘When our own fans describe the trip as a Jolly Boy’s Outing, we are just as keen as the rest of Scotland to see our own club harmed.’
    I’m not disputing the phrase used. I was challenging how you classified the intent behind it. We’re bickering-aplenty in here. But I personally doubt any genuine posters wish ‘harm’ on our club. Rather, the heightened language used is because of how the club’s custodians have so unprofessionally put us in harm’s way…..in so many ways.
    Have a good day. Stay safe.
  19. Garngad to Croy on
    If the Scottish government step in to implement the 10 day isolation period on the Elite sports team that is Celtic, then Rangers can forget about their upcoming Uefa league away trip to Belgium which is currently on the banned list .
    If Rangers cannot fulfill their Uefa league fixture because of a local government imposed restriction then Uefa rules state that they must forfeit the tie.
    Stick that in your BBC Celtic hating hun loving contract tracing pipe and smoke it !
  20. My friends in Celtic
    On the contrary, forget the legality aspect of the Dubai debacle for one moment.
    Was this trip essential travel.
    Should alcohol not have been off limits.
    Was it morally correct
    Was it sensible
    Did we do our homework on UAE covid rates.
    Did we travel in the knowledge that quarantine regulations could be changed at a minutes notice.
    Did we show empathy with long suffering supporters
    What were the ” minor infringements” that John Kennedy speaks off.
    Did we have adequate procedures and the correct personnel to supervise the players left behind.
    Did we understand the terminology ” Global Pandemic ”
    Did we consider the PR disaster
    Did we contemplate the SG reaction and the own goal scenario.
    Genuine Celtic supporters who only want the best for our club are perfectly entitled to ask these very obvious questions.
    If our custodians or fellow supporters cannot see this then we really have got a major problem.
    Brilliant post.
    Those who run our club think they know best, their breathtaking arrogance over the position of the management team is only one example of this.
  22. BBC Scotland can confirm that an air corridor will be established to Antwerp to ensure that Rangers can fulfil their upcoming euro tie with Royal Antwerp. If the mighty undefeated Rangers don’t get a favourable result in Belgium ,the corridor will be closed . A source said if any team can’t fulfil their fixture , the tie will be awarded to the opposition …
  23. Weebobbycollins on
    There is a sense of relief in scotland at present. We are being punished because of our success and for humiliating the establishment club over the past few years.
    Well, for that we offer our sincerest quadruple treble, invincible apologies.
  24. Guys I believe we all want what is best for Celtic.
    Directors/custodians come and go. Managers and players come and go..
    We as Celtic supporters are the 1 constant in our beautiful clubs illustrious history.
    So whatever team comes out tonight (I believe it will be a reserve team) we should get behind them but never forget this shambolic season, lessons must be learned but alas whilst this board are in place I think not.
    We must not forget the crazy team formations and no strikers then 1 striker blah, blah blah so our management team must take more than its fair share of blame.
    As I say lets get behind whatever team are out on that field tonight.
    Hail Hail
    I wonder if the game will go ahead at all tonight will be interesting to see what the Scottish government come out with later today.
