From a King to a Jack

Hibernian aced their start to the season, recording only a single defeat (away in Europe) in all competitions in July, August and September.  October hit them hard: four games, four defeats, then came a 25-day lay-off, with an international break augmented by a period when half the team had to isolate.

When you look back on their results, how they reached next week’s League Cup Final is an oddity, but they did so in some style against a Newco side that capitulated in the face of even-handed officialdom.  Defend poorly, against Martin Boyle in particular, and you will lose goals.

That the team on the worst run of form in Scotland reached the final is irrelevant, if they are good enough to get there, they are good enough to take seriously.  I would prefer Jack Ross to have remained as manager, instead of resigning after last night’s defeat to Livingston (we have all been there, Jack).  What their former manager could not do is maintain discipline.  Their worst two results in recent weeks: defeats to Ross County and Livingston, saw two late red cards in each game, as the team lost composure when they needed it most.

Hibs will now hope for the dead cat bounce effect to come into play at Hampden.  This phenomenon holds up statistically, although the effect soon runs out of fuel.  The full horrors of last season came home to me after we dropped points to Jack Ross’s Hibs 54 weeks ago.  Celtic’s trajectory was clear, but we would wait a further 3 months before Neil Lennon resigned.  That cat did not bounce.

We have three games before the final, home to Motherwell, away to Ross County and tonight’s dead rubber against Real Betis.  At the corresponding fixture last season we discovered David Turnbull and Ismaila Soro were capable of improving the team.  Who knew?  I’m sure Ange Postecoglou will hope for the same from some of his fringe players tonight.

We have problems, then, as I think the bold James has an injury.

Cheers – yes will be there with the usual ‘crew’.

Will be interesting to see how we play without the usual pressure……hope it’s not a West Ham-like performance – mind you we are better now, and West Ham are better than them. A draw and some encouraging individual performances will be good – maybe McCarthy will start his campaign tonight.

Anyone listening to the distress in this young woman’s voice as she recounts things that happened years ago now must know why we have to take any and all action possible to ensure that Higgins gets nowhere near Celtic. Never underestimate what he did to our fans and others.

    Celtsarehere….

REPORTS from Yahoo Japan claim Celtic have had a £1m bid for Yosuke Ideguchi accepted by Gamba and the player will fly over for a Hoops medical before the end of the month to complete a move to Glasgow.

  6. The huns have named quite a strong side tonight considering it’s a dead rubber and they’ve a visit to tynecastle on Sunday. I guess they could do with the win bonus.

Ally McCoist for the Hibs Job, that would be fun, or John Kennedy to gain more experience before coming back to us, chances are it will be Alex Neil or Derek McInnes,

I’m not a fan of Hibs, they have fans who hate us, I’ve met some of them. Sincerely hope they appoint a dud.

From whence came the rumour, mentioned above, about Higgins not being offered the job?

  10. If Ernie pops in, I know its unlikely because he will be up at Celtic Park leading the silent protest, holding the supporters banner and berating the board outside but if he does,

Could you help me understand, from your perspective, why those pesky kids and uni lecturers organised a banner in the North Curve that called out the people who enacted and policed the Bill ?

    Called to account –

SNP Former Leader. (Hertz blood of my blood for the Ulster Scots)

SNP Current Leader. (Ayrshire, Dreghorn so obvioulsy hates Celtic)

SNP Justice Minister (he of the isint the league cup final a grand occasion with the rangers all singing)

SNP MSP (alleged Celtic leanings, or is that wrong assumption just because he talks about mass and hell)

Police Scotland Chief. Former (raised in Kelvinside till 11, moved to England, maybe he just hates tims ?)

Police Scotland Assistant Chief (Bernie the bold, alleged Celtic Supporter)

Police Scotland Match Person. (FoCus of FoCus – “unreliable evidence in court” (Herald))

A QC (from The Brig no less, went to St Bernards, maybe he will get the call next from the board)

So having blamed the politicians and the people who over stretched their policing duties, I would say a very dangerous banner if you are actually in that cult you keep mentioning, you wouldnt call out the leaders would ?

  11. If that was referenced at me, I will be at the game, will you ?

I’ll be relying on all your top class updates as I can’t make the game and unfortunately no one can take my tickets.

  13. Leicester down 2-0. As it stands, Fraudgers out of Europa League and a potential opponent of ours.

Leicester relying on Legia taking points off Spartak Moscow.
