Glib, shameless, fit and proper

1532

Before digesting news reports that Dave King is set to return to Scottish football as a director of Newco Rangers, it’s probably worth a caveat.  Today’s ‘news’ has the same heritage as pretty much every false steer emanating from Ibrox over the past decade.  Honest Dave King may well hope to take over at Ibrox but I could just as easily believe he has no intentions of getting involved.

Two months ago King accepted liability for 41 counts of contravening the South African Income Tax Act, while agreeing to pay the resultant bill, the equivalent of £46m.  By act of sheer comic genius he is being heralded as the most appropriate person to take control of Newco Rangers, the club brought about by the disastrous income tax affairs of Oldco Rangers, while King was on the board.

Lord Nimmo Smith prevaricated on some issues in his report into Oldco but he was unequivocal in his condemnation of the directors, including King. South African judge, Brian Southwood, described King as a “glib and shameless liar” in 2011.

In every practical sense this man is a perfect fit for the Rangers group of clubs.  Every scrap of information available on how he conducts his affairs screams ‘Rangers tradition’.

As for Fit and Proper?  Don’t make me quote a second judge!

In the event the SFA have to make a Fit and Proper decision on King they will have to consider Nimmo Smith’s view.  It is not even remotely credible that the SFA are competent to rule on King while their president was subject to the same criticism from Nimmo Smith (although Judge Southwood provides a convenient out).

The narrative being peddled today is a final throw of the dice by some, nothing more.  ‘A guy will hunn’ers of millions is coming in to make everything OK’.  Aye, sure thing.

Thanks bhoys, Miss Prestonpans has never been to Partick and since she’s been on long term sick she’s now on SSP at £50 per week. I said I would give her a wee treat and pay for her tics and get her oot the hoose.

  2. I would find it incredible if Sevco had not had the all clear from the SFA already regards the lying King .

Mind u they ain’t exactly clever so maybe I’m giving them too much credit of foresight!!

  3. CRAIG Mather released the following statement tonight:

“I can confirm our talks with Mr King were extremely positive and Mr King made it clear he wishes to join the current Board to help ensure he claws back some of the £20m he p**** against the wall under David Murray.Rangers are ready and fully equipped to be fleeced for the Third time and Mr King wants a slice of the action.

“We would be delighted to have Mr King, with his knowledge of the Club and business acumen on board and as can be seen from his own Tax statement he is happy to help us cream even more out of the most gullible fools ever to set foot inside a football stadium.

“I am well aware this will not sit comfortably with those who have sought to derail our gray train and who have fed out lies and misinformation about the Club and its Directors but I am confident we will overcome every obstacle in our way and continue to squeeze every last penny out of this rotten corpse.

“Rangers will be back in adminstration sooner rather than later and Mr King, has made it abundantly clear that he is willing and happy to work with the current directors of both the plc and ltd – myself, Brian Stockbridge, Bryan Smart and James and Sandy Easdale – to make sure that happends.

“We have stuck to our task and programmes because we believe we have the chance of a lifetime to fill our pockets I would urge every Rangers fan to continue giving us money and not give credence to the many lies and rumours that are circulated by people with other agendas and who perhaps cannot admit we are earning a fortune from this chaos.

“Too many are trying to distort the truth but it is this: Rangers is not a business in distress. Rangers is not even a business,Rangers do not even exist.

I do not have the full Annual report and I suggest it be read in full.

My understanding is that any resolution would have to be faithfully presented to the shareholders at the AGM as the view of the proposers that got the required support.

You can check with CST who will know the rules.

There will be no impediment to King’s slimy progress. After all the club is still the same club, according to the brethren anyway.

    Auldheid,

Those offering the resolution have their say presenting the resolution at the AGM but wording the resolution in the prospectus also requires agreement with the proposer, not mentioning the CFCB is IMO making it ambiguous, if you mention UEFA its a turn off, most simply switch off because they expect nothing to happen, however if you mention the exact authority responsible and their jurisdiction and authority people pay attention, and when people are paying attention justice usually prevails.

A bit miffed but got to say, it is now official football business whether backed or defeated we now have a reference point for the cheating, its written down and they cant erase it :o)

  22. As a Celtic fan I have absolutely no issue with DK becoming Director of Sevco.

As a Celtic fan I want a director of Sevco to be an unfit and improper person.

    Hell mend them!!

  23. Evening everybody.

I will now gently defend Pat Nevin: firstly he challenged the Chelsea racists. I also met him at a Go-Betweens concert a few years ago. Pat spoke warmly about Celtic. However he made an error by trying to become a supporter of another football club. If he found portions of the Celtic support to be bigots then he ought to have challenged such sections of said support. Instead he walked away. Moreover his much vaunted campaign to challenge sectarian bigots wasn’t very consistent. Pat, come back to Celtic. All will be forgiven. You can never replace the Bhoys.

  24. 16 roads – he cut a deal in respect of fraud charges which were not pursued. He was found guilty on 41 charges if breaching SA income tax laws. He paid a fine for those on top of the 44M tax settlement. His slate is anything but clean.
