Glib, shameless, fit and proper

1532

Before digesting news reports that Dave King is set to return to Scottish football as a director of Newco Rangers, it’s probably worth a caveat.  Today’s ‘news’ has the same heritage as pretty much every false steer emanating from Ibrox over the past decade.  Honest Dave King may well hope to take over at Ibrox but I could just as easily believe he has no intentions of getting involved.

Two months ago King accepted liability for 41 counts of contravening the South African Income Tax Act, while agreeing to pay the resultant bill, the equivalent of £46m.  By act of sheer comic genius he is being heralded as the most appropriate person to take control of Newco Rangers, the club brought about by the disastrous income tax affairs of Oldco Rangers, while King was on the board.

Lord Nimmo Smith prevaricated on some issues in his report into Oldco but he was unequivocal in his condemnation of the directors, including King. South African judge, Brian Southwood, described King as a “glib and shameless liar” in 2011.

In every practical sense this man is a perfect fit for the Rangers group of clubs.  Every scrap of information available on how he conducts his affairs screams ‘Rangers tradition’.

As for Fit and Proper?  Don’t make me quote a second judge!

In the event the SFA have to make a Fit and Proper decision on King they will have to consider Nimmo Smith’s view.  It is not even remotely credible that the SFA are competent to rule on King while their president was subject to the same criticism from Nimmo Smith (although Judge Southwood provides a convenient out).

The narrative being peddled today is a final throw of the dice by some, nothing more.  ‘A guy will hunn’ers of millions is coming in to make everything OK’.  Aye, sure thing.

    Petec,

respect buddy… but, imo, knowledge is always more honest – and potentially more painful – than ignorance, as long as we understand that the more knowledge we get, the more we don’t know.

Let’s just imagine that an investor appeared on the scene looking to join the board at Celtic. Now let’s say that the msm got wind of this mans dodgy past, tax evasion, damning judicial indictments etc. I wonder if he would be welcomed by Scottish football? Methinks unfit and improper would be the cry!

Last time I was out for a curry in Edinburgh with my cousin, Pat Nevin was at the table next to us. When I looked over, he was taking soup. Not a word of a lie.

PN accused us of singing sectarian songs at Hampden

    when none were sang.

He did it to ingratiate himself with the BBC and them.

    ………………………………………….

I think that you are placing the kindest possible interpretation of Mahatma Nevin’s motives for his faux indignation at sectarian songs that he never heard, but were reported to Rob McLean from as yet unnamed sources over his earpiece.

Ingratiating himself with the BBC could have been his sole motive as this kind of anticipatory compliance is necessary to get work in the MSM these days.

However I think it is a bit more seedy than that, and given Charlotte’s release of e-mails detailing Jack Irvine’s strategy to blacken our club, I think he did it for the same reason that Judas betrayed his friend Jesus…………for the money!

Brown envelopes from MH for a badly acted, stage managed, piece of anti-Celtic theatre.

When we hear of the good example set by people like the late George Ryan and then have to read of the odious Nevin on the same page it is galling.

Gordon, he did indeed. He clearly feels those songs are sectarian. Like you, I disagree with Pat Nevin about that interpretation of those songs

Was at both St Judes primary in Barlanark and St Andrew’s Secondary in Carntyne when Pat was there, but a few years below him. Cant believe the comments he has made against the club. He comes from a big family who I am sure still support the club. His comments during the cup final from a few years ago are shocking giving his back ground and political beliefs. Heard his comments today on Radio Scotland. Shame on you Pat

Imagine looking in the mirror and seeing the person who helped end your club? Alternatively, imagine you look like Mo Johnston.

we need to sign Stokes and Samaras on new deals..

Sammi great in Europe but average in Scotland

Stokes great in Scotland but average (at best) in Europe.

I would meet Samaras demands because there is a return on the investment when we play in Europe.

I would sign Stokes at price that places him middle of 1st team salary structure. If he thinks he can get better – shake hands and wish him luck. Basically he’s an average 1st team player who is lost in Europe.

I also think Stokes is blocking a space that could be filled with a better player.

Lenny and Lawwell have called this one right in my opinion.
