Helsingborg final Champions League hurdle

192

Celtic will play Swedish champions Helsingborg IF in the Champions League play-off round later this month.  Helsingborg eliminated Polish champions Slask Wroclaw in the last round, winning 0-3 in the first leg in Poland, but our man in Poland assures me Slask were one of the weakest Polish champions in recent season and have lost several players over the close season.  Helsingborg also eliminated The New Saints (you thought you knew British football) from Wales in the second qualification round.

Although like all sensible Northern European leagues, the Swedes are midseason, this is a straightforward proposition for Celtic, who will be slight favourites to qualify for the Champions League group stage.

I’m not sure how easy this tie will be. Being from Scandanavia they’ll probably play a similar type of football to Scotland which is a definite plus, but Helsingborgs are famous for playing attacking football, it’s even in the club’s charter. It’s Henrik’s old club too so they’ll porbably know a bit about us. Plus, even though they’ve lost a few players they still won a treble last year and have already won the cup. This is a team undergoing a gold age. Historically Helsingborgs have prioritized European football and even put Inter Milan out even if it was over a decade ago. All I’d say, don’t underestimate these guys they’ll be just as up for this as we will be. They also have some very experienced players in striker Alvaro (who a lot of their fans rate higher than Larsson) and Erik Edman at the back. This is a team on the up, and we’ll need to seriously be on our game to win this won, but I’m quietly confident.

On another note, don’t know if you’ve seen this amazing clip of Nakamura hitting a football through a moving buses’ window. Incredible, here is the youtube link unbe-freakin-lieavable

  3. I will post 1 witness statement from the Irish War of Independence Bureau of Military History 1913 – 1921 as published by the Irish Government on 7th of August 2012. There are 1700+ statements so this will take me/us a few years to get through. But since I find this fascinating I’m going to stick with it. I’ll post statements in Alpahabetic Surname order. This way I will make sure I will read them all.

  6. What dates we play Helsingborg ?

Watching fox sport programme here in oz, they are chatting to 1 of qpr’s money men. Think he’s Asian ?

Anyway he’s speaking about what a great singing park from man united is not only as a player but commercially it’s fantastic for qpr.

I’d say they are desperate to sign ki and we could squeeze max amount out of them. 10m with add ons I would be looking for.

  7. Interesting contribution from Peterhead manager in his club ‘website’ …..

He certainly does not let up on Burley…….

He will get some stick from the visitors tomorrow for sure …..

  8. Evening Celts, our Lenny and his team will be very well versed in the dangers and Weaknesses of Helsinki, it’s a bloody shame we have to go across the Atlantic to play a meaningless friendly, no disrespect to our American Celts but this game replaces a Sat 3pm KO at Celtic Park.

It looks to me like someone is planning….. Just not very well.

    Nothing concrete,

but the Johnston horses are always worth a second look at Ayr, Idler cant possibly run as bad as it did last time, and izzy boy will have come on for its recent run

    have a good night

  15. Fleagle

that horse of mine is actually running at newmarket, so if its race starts at redcar then its got even less chance than normal!

  16. It’s all about the Jockeys today… and Ascot looks a very tough card…

So, it was the toss of a coin between Richard Hughes (Trovare 5.20 New) and Ryan Moore up at Haydock… my nap is the latter…

    Opinion 3.25 Haydock

    Happy punting !

Fleagle – I’m avoiding the Shergar Cup nonsense at Ascot, but struggling otherwise.

The only one that jumped out at Haydock has been picked already, so I’ll need to get up earlier on a Saturday!

Looking at that 5:20 race at Newmarket, I was swithering between both Perrett horses, but I’ve settled on Trovare for my nap!!

I’m away to check out the Ayr card.

    Good luck all.

  22. Fleagle, missed last week so hopefully not too late to join up again? My nap is Mull of Killough in the 1255 at Ascot. Be lucky Bhoys
