Celtic were not the only seeds to get a bloody nose in this week’s Champions League play-off round first leg games. Lyon and Real Sociedad looked well matched before the game but Lyon’s 0-2 home defeat suggests the seeds were outclassed.
Austria Vienna were the team I wanted this round but despite indifferent domestic form they upset the odds and beat Dinamo Zagreb 0-2 in Croatia. Perhaps the biggest surprise was Schalke’s 1-1 home draw with Poak Salonika.
Our defeat was, apparently, an historic sporting occasion for a country who are only a decade or so into their relationship with the game. Kazak prime minister, Serik Akhmetov, went into the home dressing room after the game on Tuesday to congratulate Shakhter and bask in the fruits of his sports development policies, but I hear there is trepidation ahead of their trip to Glasgow.
Top Russian TV analyst, Vasily Utkin, predicted, “Celtic will solve all the problems before second game, they will learn what mistakes they did in Astana and they will show their real power. If this happens I’m pretty sure Celtic will go through.
“In the previous round Shakhter beat Albanian champions Skenderbeu 3-0 but in Albania they were down 3-0. They are the team whose emotions are very important. If Celtic start the game well at Celtic Park, with all their songs from the stands and support given by their fans, the players from Karaganda may start the game on their knees.
“Their only chance will be on the counter attack. Whether this will be productive is the question for Celtic. A goal for Shakhter would complicate Celtic’s situation.
“I see Celtic reaching the Champions League group games. They are Champions League quality. Whatever Shakhter will do they are not Champions League quality, at least not yet.”
“This… is a question for Celtic” is the key phrase. Champions League qualification is in our own hands. Beat Shakhter Karagandy by more than 2-0 at home is as good an offer as anyone will get to qualify for the Champions League.

Stupidity ye say? Am far from stupid pal.. I placed the 20 quid on 9/1 before coral changed the price. Knowing they made an error it was there problem not mine. I was expecting them to change it as soon as they realised. Several emails later I’ve received a 20 quid free bet as a goodwill gesture from them and I also had my original 20 quid returned as obviously I’ve no interest in placing 20 quid on shaktar at 4-5.. Not the work of somebody stupid my friend! Hail hail.
Word on Twitter is that the Green Brigade are back in 111?

Hope that’s true.We desperately need them for Wednesday.
Weeminger,
Had we forked out a few quid on a couple of players I expect most would have renewed simply because they don’t feel like nothing is being done to attract custom.
If its bargain basement then people will wait and see.
That’s shortsighted, you can’t blame the support if you don’t give us anything to believe the commitment is gone, the recent signing policy screams no commitment, it’s all about profit.

Agree entirely with:
” I think the wee leagues are all being strangled right now. The big teams want a pan European version of the NFL.”
Uefa are party to it too, look at the way the disparage their own Europa League.
I wonder if anyone on here managed to catch the piece on Radio 4’s You and Yours today. It was basically asking the question about the ASA decision to review whether Rangers are a new entity or not. The presenter spoke to an advertising guy from The Leith Agency (introduced as a neutral, i.e. a Hibs supporter). He spent most of the interview denegrating Celtic fans with comments such as “Celtic fans are not very bright. Just look on YouTube to see one them who can’t even recognise a pineapple.” He also used the ‘old firm’ tag and went on to suggest that because Rangers wear the same strip, play at the same stadium and have the same fans they are therefore the same team and their history is intact.
He suggested that the complaint would have been made by a Celtic fan causing mischief.
When he was asked whether he though the ASA would uphold the challenge he said “I imagine it will not be upheld”.
I was raging at this “expert” but was unable to contact the programme as I was about to go online for a business meeting so I listened to it again just now on the iPlayer.
You can catch his words of wisdom from about 45 minutes into the programme.
I want to complain to the BBC but am I wasting my time?

Canamalar- I’ll pick thus up later bathing the kids but DVD was 2.5M and I don’t think that’s bargain basement for a defender.

I could give you a lot of techno babble about value chain analysis.
However I will save that talent for the numpties at work.
All I can say is look at the success of the Kerrydale Bar.
We need more of that and that would only be the start.
Another one bites the dust….from Sunderland QN
“Swansea midfielder Ki Seung-Yeung has been linked with a move to Sunderland.
jMidfield Ki has slipped down the pecking order at the Swans following Michael Laudrup’s summer acquisitions of Jose Canas and Jonjo Shelvey in the middle.
The South Korean could leave on a loan basis just 12 months on from a then club-record move from Celtic.
The 24-year-old left out of the matchday squad for Swansea’s Europa League first-leg play-off clash with Petrolul Ploiesti.
Ki signed in a £5.5m move from the SPL giants but has been a massive flop in Wales”

The people who want to turn up will turn up.
That is true in essence. But more people would want to turn up if they were excited and hopeful by Celtic’s play. At the moment frustration and disappointment is more likely to be the case from our supporters.
No surprises that Super Ally looks like a fool after today’s stunt

Please complain.
On the basis of the subject matter and the partial slanted approach in the item.
And secondly to try and teach some sense into the incredibly smug and self satisfied bunch of upper middle class t*ats who run the programme, the radio station and the corporation.
Steinreigns..,
For some it is a complicated issue, they obviously will make their commitment on the basis of the boards apparent commitment.
Your statement IMO was based on those who are not so discerning or committed, if they buy a ticket they bought a ticket, if they don’t they won’t, no shit eh
Nothing but stating the bleeding obvious, no reasoning, just dumb drivel
Never thought I’d ever ask this, as I very rarely leave Glasgow, but anyone know of a pub in Leeds showing the game next Wednesday. Preferably near city centre. Cheers.
Mad mitch
Us numpties have been calling it value stream analysis for years. . (h) ooops ;))))

You are taking it too seriously. Calm down.
Most folk don’t sit fretting about turning up.

I don’t know If its still open but mcguires was a ghood celtic shop and on the outskirts of the city centre…. Or the Irish centre a little further out
Hh
Weeminger,
Long and short, aye buttons for a player, don’t bother trying to justify spending buttons on a player recruited to kill the game.
Would have much preferred to seen £5M spent on a dud forward at least I could have believed they tried.
Hoopsters wondering where our goals will come from on Wednesday.
Set pieces …. first goal will be big virgil from a corner. Second will be a kc Penalty
Numero 3 … Charlie free kick
4-0 … KC penalty
Then half time ;)
MadMitch
Thanks. I will complain today. Must say, I am disappointed that the rot that infects BBC Shortbread is casually working its way through the whole corporation Then again ……

“Green Brigade back in time for next Wed? Amazing the length Celtic will go to avoid signing a decent striker.”
Well, I thought it was funny.
Steinreigns…,
True, for many it’s just a game but for many it’s their only out from their challenges their escape from the dirge.
It’s ok for those who don’t rely or base our life on the results of a sport but this is Celtic and we both know many are looking to the team for an escape from their routine.
It’s becoming a middleclass ball game
Ki linked with Sunderland. I wonder if we have a sell on clause? Not that we would spend the money right enough…
Asonof … Be more interesting if he was available for Wednesday
The game should not be televised next week unless every available ticket has been sold.
Good evening all
Brilliant news that the GB will be in their normal position on saturday. Sence at last. :)))
Weefra HH
Ipaddy.. Not,sure sky would agree with you
Luciano Becchio who is being pushed out the door by Norwich must be worth a wee gamble.
Seen this afternoon EBT / bet. Very funny well done to who ever came up with it. First I’ve smiled since Tuesday.
Just a wee post to say my Uncle Mick passed away today in the Western Infirmary. He fought and fought like the wee rebel he was but the big one in the sky decided his time was up. He even gave the ward a rendition of the Johnny Thompson song and the Coronation Cup song before he went, what a man.
I will be travelling up tomorrow from Ipswich and will take in the game on Wednesday while i’m up.
God bless you wee man and god help the punters up above when the Celtic lose or play a bad game as he will give them all pelters.

Sky would want the ground full too……right now the supporters are the outstanding thing about our club.
Both the GB and Celtic will release statements tomorrow to confirm the GB will be in section 111 from Saturday onwards.
Asonofdan
Saw that earlier, think we tried to sign him a few years ago when he was at Leeds, seem to remember him giving the Chelsea defence a hard time and scoring a cracker. He is 29 tho, might not be our MO….can see Kevin Doyle pitching up….
Prayers for your uncle Mick tractorbhoy.

We were all like that at one stage – where every defeat ruined your week. But as you grow older, perspective kicks in – unless you really have sod all else in your life.
It has been a middle-class ballgame for at least 20 years. And it is unlikely to change now. Money has ruined football.
Anyone in doubt about football’s place in the general scheme of things may want to reflect on your new moniker.
Some of nonsense posted on here in the past couple of days is beyond embarrassing. It’s only a feckin game – not the end of the world.
GB back in from Sat statements tomorrow (allegedlly):)))))))))))))))
Madmitch, agree that Lawwells time as CEO is up. Every CEO has a shelf life.
His penny pinching has our CL ambitions hanging by a thread. He is a bean counter that was part of the old family dynasty. He has risked a £3m investment versus a £20M CL pot. His lack of support to the fans under the SNP law, the GB attacks and silence on SFA/Sevco cheating is only matched by the smooth way he takes way he takes his bonus every year.
I can’t see Paul67 calling out his failures and his impact on Celtic when he uses it as his Internet vehicle ; Lawwell has also got access to the media and Lenny will be the scapegoat if we fail ( I warned this before the away game ).
I dont want to criticise our CEO , however it’s not personal it’s business and he has failed. I still expect some to defend him for various reasons including their own vested interests – which they put before Celtic. Quite funny that in a strange way…..although when I think about it it’s sad more than funny.

Complaint to BBC made and submitted. Thanks for the encouragement.
