Home after perilous away fixtures

217

Kilmarnock come to Celtic Park tomorrow on what is an historical run of form.  One defeat (at Ibrox) in 12 games since early December, which includes their win over Celtic, has elevated Derek McInnes to a regard almost as high as their pies.

As we found to our cost in December, they are a very well organised outfit who know how to defend and who can break forward with purpose, but let’s not overplay the threat, they are not Brazil 1970.  They have only won three league games since defeating Celtic, single goal victories against St Johnstone, St Mirren and Livingston.

They have opened a 10-point gap on better-resourced Hibs and Aberdeen, but it has been an exerting time for maxed-out squad.  McInnes’s experience has elevated them beyond the normal scope of their resources.

After three consecutive away games a return to Celtic Park is welcome.  That run of fixtures had a perilous look to it beforehand, so taking seven from nine points is not a shoddy return.   I expect Adam Idah to start up front with Kyogo sitting behind as he did so effectively in Paisley.

Brendan Rodgers now has options in forward positions, so can confidently change things up if we are not making progress.  We are likely to see four wingers deployed at stages across the game as he figures out who his preferred starting pair is.

  1. G Fearon,

“This is the main reason that the surname switcheroo is so popular among these people.”

    ——-

    Sorry, can you please explain.

I feel The Blogger made a valid point. I’m sure you don’t mean to badger.

If you need evidence of some of the less savoury elements in our support on this point, a quick social media search should suffice.

(indeed, there is a ‘likely to be deleted’ post at the foot of page 1 which is sufficiently vile to be valid here)

As much as I take issue with the GB on many things I fully support their stance on Gaza.

The world is standing back and watching a slaughter. There are some things that we as a club and a support must speak out on and in my opinion this is one.

If Abada supports his country on their genocide then I for one will be happy to see the back of him.

Did not mean to badger…..but as far as I have seen the support have been on his side.

  5. I didn’t hear Brendan say Abada was leaving. All I heard was that he was very supportive of his situation. I’ll just let this play out and hopefully the Bhoy comes through it ok.

  6. ONIL

It’s utterly ridiculous to not blame an element of our support for Abada’s disengagement.

I also think our management / board have been a bit naive in not seeing it coming and moving him on.

I would also add that I have no issue personally with the support highlighting this absolutely horrific disproportionate action by Israel’s leadership and its being ignored by much of the western world.

I just wish that even 5% of those signing Grace tomorrow would attend the demos and marches with us on this issue. I wish they would be bothered as individuals to write to their prospective labour MPs and ensure Starmers crew vote with SNP and others to demand ceasefire immediately on Wednesday.

I doubt they will bother as it’s easy to shout at a football game anonymously and hide behind Celtic.

Your posts at 4:26 and 4:28 appear contradictory?

Must admit, this isn’t a consideration I enjoy discussing on CQN.

I don’t wish to offend, nor do I wish to be offended.

I may take a brief time out here.

    What is contradictory?

I don’t always agree with the GB but do on this?

  10. Don’t agree with whats going on in Gaza but what the hell was Hamas thinking or was it Iran and Russia .

It’s sure a mess and no idea how this will end it wont be pretty.

Celtic football club was established to help the poor and needy. You think they would have known better?

  13. G Fearon,

OK,, then make it simple and transparent for me.

What exactly do I Google regarding:-

“This is the main reason that the surname switcheroo is so popular among these people.

  14. The Battered Bunnet on 16th February 2024 4:43 pm

I should have used “those people”

    Both are acceptable though.

  15. You would have thought Bitton would have marked his card, better selling him last month, his situation isn’t changing anytime soon.

  16. ONENIGHTINLISBON @ 4:41 PM,

You can’t have it both ways can you?

G FEARON is far from the only racist in our support.

The Green Brigade openly supported the military action of Palestinian resistance movement as it inflict3d carnage and murder on many, many hundreds of innocents, including Isreali Jews.

    Hail Hail

If Liel Abada were Palestinian I would certainly understand his position.

If he doesn’t want to play for us because of the pro-Palestinian element of our support, then I’m afraid it’s time to call a halt and let the boy go.

    Free Palestine…

    CHAIRBHOY on 16TH FEBRUARY 2024 5:27 PM

I BACK their support for Gaza at this present time.

I mean seriously who would not want to support them at this time?

  19. Chairbhoy on 16th February 2024 5:27 pm

    Racist?

You need to cut down on those cough drops champ.

  20. Fair few on here that are worth the watchin’

To use a common Belfast phrase from back in the day.

  21. People still saying leave politics at the door two years since all Russian Clubs were banned from European competitions…

  22. As far as I know Leil Abada has said nothing publicly about any tension he is feeling reacting to our pro-Palestinian supporters and his countrymen calling him out for being part of a club with a pro-Palestinian support. We are aware that his form has been recently weak but you’ll need to be cynical to the nth degree to take that as a form of deliberate sabotage. The manager is treating it as a Mental Health issue and that’s a wise approach.

Leil has not been abused directly by our support, in fact, we have cheered him in all his matches but there’s a danger that our more hot-headed element may start booing him now for something other than poor form. The least said about this, the sooner it is mended.

I would like Leil Abada back on board but not at the price of attempts to support Palestine. If Leil feels he has to go in the summer, I don’t want a hasty distressed sale because we want him out fast. We should, if he goes, get the true transfer price for a scoring winger or place him on loan until someone pays the proper price. We can win this league without Leil, but given the poor form of our current wingers, I’d prefer to keep his scoring prowess available to us in the run in.

Whatever else, the less soap opera talk there is about this, the better. It can only serve as a needless distraction when our minds, or at least those of our players and coaches, need to be on football pitch matters. I will be singing Grace on Saturday and I will be cheering Leil Abada if he gets himself back on the pitch.

  23. G FEARON @ 5:32 PM,

Nothing personal, I know lot’s of racists, so don’t take it to heart.

Just these views are outwith what Celtic stand for.

A Club open to all, young Abada, or whatever race, creed, or culture our players, supporters or visitors are.

    Hail Hail

  24. ONENIGHTINLISBON @ 5:30 PM,

To support the Palestinian Resistance Movement’s attack on innocent on the 7 Oct 202.3.

And conflate it with the Palestinian peace movement is wrong

To give succour to the racists also wrong.

    Hail Hail
