Home after perilous away fixtures

217

Kilmarnock come to Celtic Park tomorrow on what is an historical run of form.  One defeat (at Ibrox) in 12 games since early December, which includes their win over Celtic, has elevated Derek McInnes to a regard almost as high as their pies.

As we found to our cost in December, they are a very well organised outfit who know how to defend and who can break forward with purpose, but let’s not overplay the threat, they are not Brazil 1970.  They have only won three league games since defeating Celtic, single goal victories against St Johnstone, St Mirren and Livingston.

They have opened a 10-point gap on better-resourced Hibs and Aberdeen, but it has been an exerting time for maxed-out squad.  McInnes’s experience has elevated them beyond the normal scope of their resources.

After three consecutive away games a return to Celtic Park is welcome.  That run of fixtures had a perilous look to it beforehand, so taking seven from nine points is not a shoddy return.   I expect Adam Idah to start up front with Kyogo sitting behind as he did so effectively in Paisley.

Brendan Rodgers now has options in forward positions, so can confidently change things up if we are not making progress.  We are likely to see four wingers deployed at stages across the game as he figures out who his preferred starting pair is.

  1. Well, well, well,I get a hard time earlier in the week for calling out that racist,3rd Reich,Poster boy,and the disgusting post from Auroraborealis, and now see some of the “Wee courin timorous beasties” being savaged by,a descendent of Joseph Goebells..

I had ,intended, never to post again, still do,but could not resist the deliciousness of the irony.

  2. So the fans should keep politics out of football ?…but it is ok for the players …ie Abada !?…bit of a contradiction there me thinks ..anyway he was only ever an impact sub ( albeit a good one when he could ersed ! ) .Ciao mate our great club and traditions will always go on …Ps did the fans have a song for him ?…nope thought so 🤔…Ciao

    TurkeyBhoy,

In your roll as Turkish ambassador to CQN, I think you need to explain why it is 15 quid for a bottle of beer and a bar of chocolate at your airports 🍺🍫💰

I assume you have a direct line to Erdoğan to raise this issue.

I dont want it to become a major diplomatic rift between our countries

    😁

  4. JIMTIM

And just when I’m on , gas anyone at our club asked the question about the cheating mib on Wednesday night ,let it go unchallenged and it will continue because they must win this league

Who were Celtic playing on Wednesday. I must’ve missed it.

  5. Spare a thought folks for Anthony Stokes today …he has been foolish no doubt …but he has just felt the full force of the law..and I wonder why …wonder if the same “ justice “ would have been distributed to one of theirs !?🤔…aye right…Anyway apart from his exploits for the Celts ..he provided me with one of my best memories in May2016…Tim’s take care of him inside 💚🍀

Abada, like BIton were both well aware of the fans support of Palestine before they signed their big money contracts. If they had any issues with that then maybe they should have tried to sign for the club from Govan who seem to think the Israelis can do no wrong.

I’m certain the club in Govan couldn’t match the wages Celtic were offering.

That would have had a significant bearing on who they would sign for I’m sure.

I don’t doubt that but surely if our support for Palestine was so abhorrent to them they would have looked at another club….

  9. Onto Celtic Park and meeting a good few Celtic men and woman .God bless all who support our club

It has been confirmed to Celtic Football Club just this morning that all away tickets will be cancelled for tomorrow’s women’s SWPL match at Ibrox Stadium.

At a time when so many are working so hard to promote and support the women’s game in Scotland, the decision to deny access to so many fans is hugely disappointing, even more so given that there were a number of options available to the home club to allow our fans to safely attend in a stadium of such capacity and given the expected crowd.

Celtic will liaise with the home club regarding refunds for all tickets and will communicate to our supporters who had purchased tickets as soon as possible.

We are pleased to inform our supporters that the match will be broadcast at the Sports Bar within Celtic Park tomorrow for any supporters who wish to attend.

    Jota stretchered off for Liverpool

    after a late challenge

    by his own team mate!

if that had been a Brentford player making that tackle he might have got a red.

can you be sent off for tackling your own player?

  12. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Thanks (I think) for links to media sessions with Brendan and Tony.

    Absolutely cringeworthy.

Particularly the ever growing technique of

    – asking a question

    – then answering your own question often with “is it because …”

    – then going silent inviting the interviewee to confirm your world view as per the question you asked and answered.

Just another tactic to engineer the response you want.

Would be refreshing if someone stood up and said

“you’ve got both roles covered. You don’t need me. Bye”

  13. Starting at Arsenal, Anthony Stokes barely got a glimpse of first-team football with only one one-minute appearance. Nevertheless, his career saw him flit from club to club, notching up a total of 420 appearances, 164 goals, and 82 assists across multiple leagues.

His most fruitful spell came at Celtic, where he scored 76 goals and provided 64 assists in 191 appearances. The Republic of Ireland international spent a significant amount of time on the pitch for Celtic, accumulating nearly 12,989 minutes.

Quality player on his day, and Hibs would not have won the cup without the three Celts who took the field that day. So overcome with the shock of the result, an acquaintance of mine when travelling back to Edinburger pulled into a lay-by and had a heart attack and died. I guess he died happy, and considering how some people are sent from this world, not a bad way to go.

  14. CELTIC: Hart, Ralston, Welsh, Scales, Taylor, McGregor, O’Riley, Maeda, Palma, Kyogo, Idah.

Subs: Bain, Kuhn, Yang, Nawrocki, Oh, Iwata, Bernabei, Bernardo, Kelly

Team much as expected, sacrificing a midfielder for Kyogo in his new role. Hope it pays off and Adam Idah improves his striker instincts and goals tally.

  16. Not a breath of wind in O’Donnell Park, Leitir Ceannain with Na Conallaigh in the deficit against the men from Erne who are a point to the good. 6 gone.
