Hooper and Samaras ready to rip Rangers

636

Neil Lennon was right to emphasise the importance of discipline ahead of tomorrow’s game against Rangers; there must be a high probability that 22 players will not be on the field at the end.  Beram Kayal in particular should expect tumbling Rangers players anywhere in the vicinity of his tackling.

Rangers’ squad is sufficiently thin that there was no chance they would allow the opportunity to appeal Elbows McCulloch’s red card to pass.  McCulloch is seen as part of the problem by a lot of Rangers fans, concerned at their recent malaise, but he is as experienced on these occasions as anyone who will play tomorrow.  Celtic will need to dominate him and Steven Davis if they to win the midfield battle.

It was at least three years ago Celtic Quick News prefixed McCulloch with the name ‘Elbows’.  An elbow is the face is remarkably effective at asserting dominance, something McCulloch knows too well.  It may be that the player’s overt physicality will be inhibited by his recent red card, just as team mate Shauny Aluko declined to tumble in the box when presented with the opportunity on Saturday after recently being out-ed as a diver.

Both teams will deploy unfamiliar central defensive partnerships, which will worry both Lennon and McCoist.  Rangers’ Jelavic has looked like he wants to be elsewhere in recent weeks but  it he gets an opportunity to put himself in the shop window he is likely to take it.  Winning the early battles may sap his enthusiasm.

I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve written a couple of versions of my match report already but in all of them Gary Hooper and Georgios Samaras are match winners.  If Celtic can win the midfield battle these two – hopefully Samaras from the wing – will win the points for Celtic.

You could maybe try Bogeys in Tempe – (480) 897-2127 is a few miles away on the intersection of Guadalupe and S Rural. The owner of the bar’s husband is a Celtic fan, so if they don’t have the game on (and if he’s about) he might be able to tell you where a local CSC is. His name’s Duncan, btw.

Paddy is stuck at Celtic I think. He is a TALENT lacking the fitness required to execute itself regularly, too good to go down a level not fit enough to go up a level.

He needs to be deployed for 60 mins – which Means he should start and be assessed at half time most weeks. Instead he is brought on with 20 mins to go.

I don’t see him in training, I don’t see his fitness data. I have no idea what his of field life is but Lenny does so there is something not adding up…?

  5. Went to visit my sister today, it was wee Ben’s 6th birthday.

The wee guys were taking the piss out of me,suggesting I will end up in the telly as I watch the game tomorrow night.

I get totally absorbed in the game and have ended up in the middle of the floor in a tackle before.

Bit housebound and short term memory totally screwed. Occasional forays into the wilds of the back garden and road to Sharkeys. Just need to tie one end of a ball of wool to stairs before I go out so as I can find my way home.

Hospital a.m. and pal is hoping they keep me in so as he can have my ticket.

Anyway, on way to recovery and hopefully tonight will help.

    That’s me knackered now.

    You tell quite a story…

You seem to be a mix of my two brothers, but crazier still.

Were you really in the Ragers End for a Derby game?

    Why?

  10. Sydney Tim –

It’s a 5:45am kick-off in QLD, so will set the alarm and watch it on Setanta. No work till Tuesday, so will enjoy a wee dram or three during the game.

Very hot and humid here. Had a big storm yesterday afternoon and expect more today.

I see Paddy as nothing more than a 20-minute player. If we are 3-0 up with 20 minutes to go, throw him in and hope for a Paddy special to really rub their noses in it.

    Hail Hail

Regular occurrence when we were 14 – 16 years old.

Three of us usually managed 15 mins (always at CP) until the inevitable happened. But that is a story that demands a working brain on my part.

I’m the same. I might even get up about 3am and log into CQN and savour the build-up. I can also go for a sleep after the game.

I could barely sleep last night thinking about the game, let alone tonight.

BTW I was talking to Christopher on the phone on Christmas Day.

My Good Friend Ian wanted me to go to Ibrox with him, and he would come to Celtic Park with me.

I thought about it for a second, then was horrified at the thought.

I know he would be absolutely fine at Celtic Park, have I got a daft phobia about Ibrox?

  14. Reading all the scoreline predictions for tomorrow,it brings to mind the friday evening sports show I watched as a young boy of 12 in 1969,the show was previewing the next days Celtic v rangers match, both managers were there to give their respective viewpoints, after both had offered their football philosophies, the last question was,”what do you think the score will be tomorrow”,”2-1 to rangers”,replied the ibrox boss, then, the camera swung to the face of the greatest manager of all time, with devastating authority, and with EXACTLY the correct amount of both grace, and humility,Jock Stein said,”only a fool would try and predict the score in this game”.I have read many a great put down since then, none has carried such deadly accuracy, god bless JS and NL.

  15. So where to watch the game?

Should I be drunk surrounded by Tims?

Or soberish at home with family?

I remember mad mental nights of old, the police closing The Maltings after a riot, Rangers Casuals attacking Finnigan’s Wake.

I am older but I feel the same.

There was a bit of me that loved the riots.

  16. Tom McLaughlin what is your local CSC? a sydney celt was looking for one

Summi, we will talk on CQN on our respective 1960’s trains :)

  17. Rascar Capac –

I remember after the 1989 Scottish Cup Final – Celtic 1 (Joe Miller) Rangers 0 – when the Railway Tavern in Motherwell was bouncing to a celebration party .

The Motherwell FC casuals targetted the pub, although they didn’t do anything as brave as attacking the pub as such. No, they hid in bushes nearby and waited for individual Tims or pairs of Tims heading home or to another bar, and jumping on them. One man saw this happening and ran into the pub and let it be known. Within seconds, the dozen or so casuals were surrounded by 20+ Celtic fans and a right royal kicking was dished out.

A painful lesson for a bunch of cowards.

  18. JimmyQuinnsBits on

    Rasc,

do it all, take your family to a Tim pub and start a riot

    life’s too short ;)

We laugh now at this stuff, and I suppose we have to.

    But it’s not funny.

I remember the Finigans Wake Attack.

    It was horrible.

The Duntocher Maltins stuff is hazier, absolute crazy violence, but it was weekly, normal, Routine violence in our boring lives.
