Neil Lennon had the chance to assess players on return to Lennoxtown from international duty this morning but there will be little chance of any meaningful training before Saturday’s game at Easter Road. Before the international break, the manager suggested Christopher Jullien could be back in contention for this game; it is an enticing prospect.
Christopher was key to much of the success we had last season; without his performances in the Europa League and, of course, that League Cup Final goal, the season would be remembered differently. Despite that, there is reason to be cautious about his return. His early season performances last year (Motherwell) and this (Kilmarnock) were well below the standard he reached when fully fit. Not every player is a natural athlete, some take an extra three weeks to get match sharp, I suspect Chris falls into this category.
Easter Road is a big pitch and Hibernian have not been as encumbered as Celtic by international absences, so they will be rested and ready for the visit of the champions. Chris has not played in seven weeks, the equivalent of preseason, I hope we see him on the bench.

I remember the daily briefing the lunchtime after the story broke and whilst there was a lot of anger directed towards the rule breakers (8 Aberdeen players out socialising and a Celtic player ‘secretly’ going to/from Spain and then coming on as a sub against Kilmarnock) The words then used were more around ‘I would expect that the football authorities will need to consider whether the upcoming games go ahead….’ (I only have a vague memory of the actual words but that was the implication). Later that day or maybe even the following day the games were postponed.
Aberdeen (the city, not the football club) was by then back in a form of lockdown with no travel in and out so there was certainly encouragement from the government that the remainder of the squad shouldn’t be travelling to Glasgow (and, I think, Hamilton). So that took care of 1 of our games. Our other postponed game was our visit to St Mirren but I can’t quite remember why that was called off too.
But, ultimately, the decision was by the football authorities albeit under what was probably pretty heavy pressure from government.

As I’ve posted here before I love Ballads & Folk Songs, & was just spending a pleasant hour compiling a Spotify list of Scottish Ballads & Folk Songs, digging back in my memory I had an Uncle with a fine voice and one of his standards was Bonny Mary of Argyll so I decided to add it in his memory.
It’s been done by a host of singers but I wanted it sung by a Scottish Singer so I was messing about trying to get a version that reminded me of the version I had heard first.
Anyway by chance I came across a version I absolutely loved sung by a Glasgow Priest Father Sydney MacEwan,
1908/1991.
I was amazed I had never heard of him before, just wondering if any on here knew him or heard him sing.
The collections of Highland Paddy, St Anthony, and the other celtic curios are brilliant , look at this.

i was listening to irish radio (NT) the other night.there was a 20 minute interview with the brilliant Christy Moore.
he has a new double cd out covering all his early stuff.He talked of his life in music and song.
he also mentioned bout playing a memorial concert for bloody sunday and he sang about what happened at croke park back then.
he said it is on rte this weekend.maybe worth checking out.

Jock Stein defending at Easter Road in the 1950s. that big terrace held a lot of fans. Easter Road saw crowds of up to 65,000 in that era as fans flocked to football in what was thought of as a golden era for the game.

Fr. Sidney McEwan was certainly famous in the 1950s ad 1960s. His auto biography was entitled, ‘On the High ”Cs” ‘. There’s a pun in there somewhere. I believe he did a fair bit of touring as a ‘showbiz’ priest.
In the 1980s he was a kind of locum priest in some Inverclyde parishes like St Ninian’s, Gourock and St Patrick’s, Greenock. Boy, could he sing hymns!!!
