If this is the acceptable standard, SFA are welcome to it

Our man on the inside, Charlie Green, seems to have upset a few people over the weekend.  Charlie was playing to the gallery with his “bigotry” comment; it is not credible that the 35 clubs who voted against providing Sevco access to an elevated league are demographic significantly different from those of Rangers (1872/3).  Although, there is a good chance that each of those 35 clubs will have a more mixed profile than the former club.

Green is still fending off interest from people with far greater pull with the Rangers (1872/3) support than he has (genuinely hope he succeeds here).  He needs to sell tens of thousands of tickets to prevent his new club slipping into the hands of one of the other consortiums still trying to buy a piece of the action.  I always caution Celtic from playing to the gallery, it delivers short term populism but is surely the alternative to a strategic plan. I am sure several clubs will express their alarm at these comments to the SFA.

Unfortunately, since the SFA failed to take action on either of Ally McCoist’s earlier inflammatory outbursts so they can expect more of the same from Green and others.

Attempts are being made to convince thousands of people a bigoted bogeyman has been out to get them.  99% of the target population will do no more than complain loudly but it’s the unpredictable >1% who exist in every community we should be concerned about.

To the best of my knowledge no Scottish club has ever accused others of bigotry, not even during ‘that’ 80 year period.  If this is the new acceptable standard, the SFA are welcome to it, but it will be better for all if we go elsewhere to play our football.  Our game has been potent for a century but it has now become dangerously unstable.

Let us go now, before this is whipped up any more.  Anyone wanting to hold Scottish football together in its current form has a lot of explaining to do.

Statistical FACT !!!! – TFPLG can only win cup ties in Angus.

Arbroath first, then Brechin….go figure as they say…

    ——————————————————–

They should buy Brechin and play there. Problems solved.

    I’ll e mail you.

  3. Auldheid and others it will be interesting to see what the home gates of Sevco actually are if they manage to survive for a few months. I suspect the first home game to be sold out in all honesty as the emotional pull of the old club brings in the punters. Green will play to the gallery, as the saying goes, for a while to ensure that will happen.

Am I right in thinking that there is a pricing limit on lower division games?

  4. Sorry if this has been touched on before and I’ve missed it, but do we know who chose the referees for our two home friendlies last week? Surely it couldn’t have been Celtic. I assumed it was the SFA and they were just flexing a bit of their muscle and winding us up at the same time. Calum Murray and Gollum? It HAD to be a wind up, didn’t it?

  5. Auldheid – thanks. No rush. At a loose end today, too much time to think – mainly because in one of lifes peculiar coincidences I was thinking about getting the children the new jerseys this morning and this afternoon, despite me not having mentioned it the wife tells me that number one son says he loves the new away top and could he get it?

Match Fixers, couldn’t have put it better myself :>)))

The problem I see is the will to make them accountable.

Making them accountable will only further our cause, they still can’t dominate us even with all the cheating on and off the pitch.

    Match Fixers

I will use that from now on if you don’t mind, nothing like saying it like it is.

I see the dilema that the sfa are in.

They must be getting pressure form above, they can NOT issue a licence with what has been presented, but you know as well as I do that they will get their licence.

Now, is the plan for them to go belly up again, and then real ragers men take over ?

In all honesty, the best thing that could happen is for them to get their licence, go bust and the sfa to fall like a house of cards.

I reckon TFPLG would have been praying for Forfar or Montrose – away- in the next round of the ole Fish Supper Cup to keep up his remarkable record.

Not sure that Stirlingshire will suit the five chinned supremo and his penchant for far east opposition.

  10. Manchester United have revealed a bumper seven-year shirt sponsorship deal with car firm Chevrolet that is worth around £25million per season.

The link-up – which will see the American company’s name on the front of United’s jerseys from the 2014-15 season – will boost the coffers at Old Trafford.

There are fears over the club’s long-term stability with the mounting debts under the Glazers, who are considering floating on the New York Stock Exchange.

Chevrolet will be the club’s fifth shirt sponsor in history and the deal is worth well over the £20m per season Aon are currently paying.

United’s commercial director Richard Arnold said: ‘This is a fantastic, long-term deal for the club.

‘We have been partners with Chevrolet for only six weeks, but already they have produced some fantastic ideas that will benefit both the partnership and our 659 million followers around the world.

‘They are a key partner on our current tour and I know they have enjoyed experiencing the buzz generated by our fanatical support and the sell-out crowds in South Africa, China, and Europe.

‘It is a great thrill for those of us who work with partners all year round when an existing partner steps up to being one of our principal partners. This commitment to United and its fans will bring real benefits to everyone who cares about the club.’

Alan Batey, General Motors’ North America Vice President of US Sales and Service, said: ‘We are extremely proud to connect our brand, Chevrolet, with Manchester United and its passionate supporters all around the world.

‘Manchester United’s statistics are impressive, but this relationship goes far beyond the numbers – this relationship is about connecting our brand with the deep-seated emotion that surrounds the team everywhere it goes.

‘When you consider the core values of Chevrolet, our passionate customers around the world, and our rich 100-year history, the partnership with Manchester United is a perfect fit.

‘And, to be only the fifth name on the iconic red jersey is a genuine honour. We very much look forward to the road ahead and the opportunities we have in partnering with such a legendary club.’

Charles Greene would like to give FPLG a job for life.

I would be prepared to chip in towards his wages if he gets a job for life there as manager.

Haven’t read the blog since yesterday, so apologies if this has been answered already, but why were Sevco in the same strip, with the same badge and the same 5 stars above the logo on their shorts yesterday, with the same players and fans as the former club r@ngers? If it’s the same club, why did they need to apply for a license at all?

  18. Apologies Starryhope.

  20. Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell is with his SPL counterpart Neil Doncaster in London as discussions continue over TV contracts.

Aberdeen’s Duncan Fraser and Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman Kenny Cameron are also members of a “steering group” set up to renegotiate with commercial and broadcast partners. It is not known if the pair are also down south.

Talks over Sky’s continued involvement in the Scottish top flight have been held over the previous few weeks, following Rangers’ failure to be readmitted into the SPL as a new company.

Doncaster had warned clubs in the Scottish Football League that TV deals with Sky, ESPN and SPORTFIVE stood to collapse if Rangers were not then voted into the First Division, wiping £17.7m out of the game to be replaced with a new deal worth £3m a year.

That threat has so far failed to transpire since the Ibrox club were admitted to the Third Division, with talks continuing over the contract ahead of Sky broadcasting SPL fixtures on the opening day of the season on Saturday, August 4.

A statement from the SPL to STV read: “At the last General Meeting, the SPL clubs appointed a Steering Group to lead discussions with broadcasters and others commercial partners.

“The Steering Group comprises Neil Doncaster (SPL CEO), Duncan Fraser (Aberdeen FC CEO), Peter Lawwell (Celtic FC CEO) and Kenny Cameron (Inverness Caledonian Thistle Chairman).

“Discussions in London between members of the Steering Group and the SPL’s commercial and broadcast partners continued today and remain ongoing.”

On Friday, it was announced the SPL had agreed a deal to purchase rights to include Rangers’ SFL matches in any package negotiated with broadcasters.

Chief executive Doncaster said at the time: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the parties concerned. Discussions will now continue with our broadcast partners and we expect to be in a position to make a further announcement next week on broadcasting rights.”

Let us not pretend nothing has changed. A lot has, more will. The Scottish footballing public has seen McCoist and Green up close, and it is not a pretty sight. “Sir” David Murry pandered to lowest common denominator, especially as things got more and more desperate, but McCoist, and now Green, have only that base to appeal to, and that base cannot deliver what Sevco needs. Rangers FC could not survive while they were in the SPL, Sevco will not survive, for long, without the SPL and neither will McCoist and Green. Both, for different but related reasons, desperate desperate men.

  22. Clyde – maybe Green was clapping at something else – hilarious. Have they learned anything – nope.
