If this is the acceptable standard, SFA are welcome to it

Our man on the inside, Charlie Green, seems to have upset a few people over the weekend.  Charlie was playing to the gallery with his “bigotry” comment; it is not credible that the 35 clubs who voted against providing Sevco access to an elevated league are demographic significantly different from those of Rangers (1872/3).  Although, there is a good chance that each of those 35 clubs will have a more mixed profile than the former club.

Green is still fending off interest from people with far greater pull with the Rangers (1872/3) support than he has (genuinely hope he succeeds here).  He needs to sell tens of thousands of tickets to prevent his new club slipping into the hands of one of the other consortiums still trying to buy a piece of the action.  I always caution Celtic from playing to the gallery, it delivers short term populism but is surely the alternative to a strategic plan. I am sure several clubs will express their alarm at these comments to the SFA.

Unfortunately, since the SFA failed to take action on either of Ally McCoist’s earlier inflammatory outbursts so they can expect more of the same from Green and others.

Attempts are being made to convince thousands of people a bigoted bogeyman has been out to get them.  99% of the target population will do no more than complain loudly but it’s the unpredictable >1% who exist in every community we should be concerned about.

To the best of my knowledge no Scottish club has ever accused others of bigotry, not even during ‘that’ 80 year period.  If this is the new acceptable standard, the SFA are welcome to it, but it will be better for all if we go elsewhere to play our football.  Our game has been potent for a century but it has now become dangerously unstable.

Let us go now, before this is whipped up any more.  Anyone wanting to hold Scottish football together in its current form has a lot of explaining to do.

  1. Shame that RTC is hanging up his boots, looking forward to his book.

    Well done sir.

As he says, the pressure still needs to be applied, can’t ease up on them.

Well done RTC for keeping your blog concentrated on the issue you chose to discuss.

However I am a bit bemused you proclaim yourself the source of discussion, I think you’ll find most irregulaities were already being discussed by other blogs and sites, in fact I think this blog has been discussing the irregularities since its inception, quite a while before you decided to wade in.

That aside, you brought a lot to the table and did manage to control the direction.

Greeninbingley- henrik was certainly Continental class ;/)

Supposing he was here right now, how hard would the Board try to keep him?

Henrik was special in lots of ways, probably pound for pound the best signing in British football since the War, and unlikely to be replaced for the financial outlay the Club will put out these days.

Seen a couple of people today asking about problems/ changes to the blog, and wondered if everyone had seen this.

We’ve come a long way in the last 8 years. From humble beginnings, we’ve grown into one of the most popular and commented-on sporting blogs in Europe.

Over the summer we’ll be making changes to Celtic Quick News to bring you a better, accessible and social website. There will be some small maintenance windows, but it will all be worth it.

If a maintenance notice appears, or the site appears unresponsive, please check back in 15 minutes.

World class Celtic players in the past 50 years-

    J.Johnstone

    B.Murdoch

    D.Mcgrain

There are a few at a lower level [Larsson, Dalglish, Hay] but to be genuinely World class is meant to be a rare accolade.

It’s part of the rubbishness of moden life that phrases like ‘World class’ get thrown about like confetti and are consequently cheapened.

It’s not just with Celtic, and it’s not just with football.

  16. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

so its all subjective, modern world class (Larrson) is rubbish :o)

  17. Intrigued to see RTC go out with a whimper rather than a bang!

Having teased out documentation (and inside information) these past 12-15 months – seems strange that he should pull the curtain down before the final act!

Has his source dried up? If so – one would have expected him to summarise his revelations and then allow others to pursue the encore!

    MystifiedCSC!

  18. On the Celtic will play in the English League debate.

Eddie Pearson of the Celtic Underground Blog alluded to meeting someone with very good Celtic connections in his Podcast 181 that he and Harry Brady met “a very credible source” with Celtic connections. In fact stating “There are few more credible sources” that “There is a strong suggestion that we will be playing in England this time next year”

The conversation starts around 14 mins but please listen to the music at the start, it’s the Liquidator by Harry J All Stars, an absolute classic forever and now!

Who was that person he met that night, we demand to know!

I think Boruc had the potential to be world class but never fulfilled it.Henrik, well we were blest to have him.Remember Henri’s comments at the end of the Champions League final?Lubo, world class player which most of the world seemed to miss, thankfully for us.

I hope the pre-match tunes on Wednesday can be timed just right I always like the playing of Walk On to start just as the teams are coming out the tunnel, to have the effect of intimidating the opposition as much as possible.

They have an average home gate of around 4000 so our atmosphere will be important to help us to victory.

I know the UEFA have rules in the group stages on when stadium tunes have to end and it is the CL theme tune, dont know if that applies in the qualifiers, if not get the Walk On to scare them in the tunnel get them rattled.

I am confident we have enough quality to ease past them.

Hope the Green Brigade are on top form.

  25. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Canalamar- yes, subjective covers it ;/0

But as you will remember when they had a poll amongst the Celtic support[ if you know the history!] for the alltime greatest Celtic XI Jimmy Mcgrory didn’t get in [only all time top goalscorer] Alec Mcnair didn’t get in [ only all time record for league appearances] and John ‘the Prince of Goalkeepers’ Thomson didn’t get in!

  26. Marrakesh Express on

I consider world class to be this…a player who would be first choice in his position or competing for that position, in a world eleven.

Therefore imho Danny McGrain is the only player who can be called world class.

Jinky Kenny and Henrik are right up there but I dont think they’d have got into a world squad in the time. Too many greats in front of them.
