Kilmarnock 0-6 Celtic

1028

The Scottish Premier League title was secured in emphatic fashion at Kilmarnock this afternoon as The Champions recorded the highest winning margin by any team in the league this season before celebrating an unforgettable league title.

There were sterling performances all over the field for Celtic but it was Charlie Mulgrew who made it his business that there would be no mistakes today.  He scored two and created another two of Celtic’s opening four goals before a late flurry finished the scoring.

The opening goal was a bullet header from Charlie from a Kris Commons corner with less than 7 minutes on the clock.  Mulgrew could have added a second three minutes later when he combined with Commons on the edge of the area before trying to clip the ball past Cammy Bell in the Kilmarnock goal but on this occasion his attempt went wide.

Glenn Loovens made it 0-2 after 15 minutes when a short corner was played across the field to Mulgrew on the right.  Charlier swung in a deep cross to the back of the six yard box for Loovens to of back across goal and into the net.

On 35 minutes Mulgrew cut inside from the left wing and opened space for a delicious right foot shot inside the far post to put Celtic 0-3 ahead and in dreamland.

Moments later Adam Matthews crossed to the dangerous Commons who could have turned and shot but played the ball into the past of Georgios Samaras who drew a magnificent save from Bell.

Seconds before half time Mulgrew sent in a mirror copy of his earlier cross for Loovens but this time Gary Hooper raced onto the ball at the back post to fire into the net and give Celtic a four goal lead at half time.

Commons, who played as a false centre forward for most of the game to great effect, should have earned a penalty on the hour mark when he was barged off the ball when clean thought inside the box but his distinct hooped shirt counted against him.

Kris then played a magnificent pass onto the rampaging Loovens who injured himself in a challenge with Cammy Bell as his shot went narrowly wide.

The second half looked set to end without a goal before a couple of late contributions, the first from Ledley who combined with Stokes before clipping the ball over the goalkeeper.  Gary Hooper then fired an unstoppable shot into the postage stamp corner from 19 yards to complete the rout.

Have a Champion Easter and enjoy your well earned celebrations.

  3. Morning and a Happy and Blessed Easter morn to all!

Few swally’s in Glasgow yesterday so mildly sore head this morning!

Watched the game at home with Mrs RobinBhoy and then got the train to Glasgow to meet friends and my brother. Went to McChuills from the Drum and Monkey but too loud so went to Babbity Bowsters where they were playing violins? Too cold in the beer garden so after an entertaining chat with the one eyed owner ended up back in the Drum and Monkey.

Glasgow was Hun free, was amazing how quiet it was! Even the last train was quiet, hassle free day for a change. Could be a sign of the future in a Hun free football environment!

Enjoy the day with you families, TinyTim thoughts are with your family at this difficult time.

    God Bless Neil Lennon!

    Hail Hail!

  4. Wow – wall to wall coverage in the Sunday Herald today – a massive two pages dedicated to Celtic’s championship win.

    Bhoy they are hurting.

  5. Firstly let me congratulate everyone at Celtic Football Club from Mr Lawell down on winning the Scottish premier league

However can you save me from the the merchandising campaign that will ride on the back of this for the next few weeks, left the game on the final whistle yester day and by the time I got home at 1455 hours my inbox already had mail from Celtic Fc online offering me championship goodies timed at 1426hrs

  6. The support were absolutely brilliant yesterday. The time in the first half when the chants were echoing round the stadium was particularly memorable.

What are you like? What you should have done is say to the currants, I’m away now for a party and although I could insist on watching the gemme here. I will let you get on with your racing and maybe you can all pick a winner for a change, because lets face it that’s all you have to look forward to for many, many years to come.

Keevins having a go at the Celtic central defence, saying that Neil hasn’t had a partnership worthy of the name in two years. Obviously facts are not used by sports “journalists” – Celtic have 21 clean sheets in 33 league games and at 20 have the lowest goals against count in British football so far this season.

  9. Morning Bhoys! Or should that be CHAMPS? :-)

Surprisingly, I didn’t go out and get rat arsed last night, changing the habits of a recent student days lol!! That said, had my fair share of Guinness during the game ;-)

Weird to think it was four years ago when me and my mates went up to Dundee in the vain hope of getting a ticket, wonderful night nonetheless! If I’d known it’d be another 4 years till we won it again I would have savoured it even more!

    Thank you Celtic!

    Thank you Neil!!!

ESPN’s 3 1/2 hour coverage was outstanding, credit it where it is due.

Also I think someone has had a wee word in Burley’s ear. Not nearly as sarcastic or negative as usual.

Agreed, Burley never mentioned a tainted title once.

The panel in the studio were also very good.

Good to see Celtic men enjoying the victory.

I did enjoy watching Mark Wilson after the game, he was itching to get down and celebrate with the team.

    2010 Never Again

Looking ahead to Neil Lennon’s summons to Hampden on Thursday regarding alleged remarks he made re certain match officials it’s going to be very interesting as to what the outcome of this might be.

We have the situation whereby Neil Lennon was refused a half time audience with match referee Calum Murray and fourth official Iain Brines who played a major part in proceedings.

It must be remembered that when fat ally recently requested such an audience with Mr Brines it was granted by Mr Brines without fear or favour. Consistent?

Neil Lennon has stated publicly that at no time did he act without proprietary towards these officials and has witnesses to this effect.

It should also be noted that Stuart McColl has just appealed successfully against charges laid against him by match officials and a subsequent ban which in essence has seriously called in to question the integrity of referee Craig Thomson as the SFA committee chose to believe manager McColl over referee Thomson. An interesting precedent.

When is it again Neil Lennon and Celtic are to be presented with the SPL trophy?

Totally unplanned pleasure, when I told the bhoys in the Soliel what I had been up to we had a right laugh.

  15. A good Easter championship winning morning to all. Hungover and frequenting the loo due to the dodgy kebab in the early hours.

Great performance yesterday, everyone getting pass marks, especially Commons, Glenda and big Cha, and great celebrations.

On a slightly sinister note, I was in the AOH in PG last night when the Police came in heavy handed and had words with the barman and closed the bar, apparantly due to this new offensive songs legislation. I also heard they closed the Black Cat in Greenock for the same reason.

Anyone else have any trouble with the law, or is it just here in Inverclyde.

Sad times when you cannot enjoy a drink and a singsong anymore, especially in an enclosed environment.

  17. Well done CELTIC.. a greatly deserved title win..dont under estimate what was achieved folks.

Forget about the ten point deduction .We would still have won the league this season.

Tremendous credit must go to our young manager Neil Lennon and his coaching staff for the way theY got a very young team playing football and winning the titile.WELL DONE.

Now, I have previously stated that gowf is a game for fuds (Taggsy and CQN bhoys excepted of course!), but being a two-faced bassa, I put bets on Bubba and Mahan at 33’s on Wednesday! :-)

I’m sure she’ll come round when she remembers that we’re going for a late lunch/early dinner.

But that’s the difference between us and them. Fall out, make up. I’ve never felt the need to punch the missus to keep her in line. Hope Thems just went to their beds early without the need to take it out on anyone else!
