King circles the wagons as clouds loom

1586

Newco have cut Celtic’s ticket allocation at Ibrox from 7,000 to 800 tickets per game next season.  I understand their thinking.  There have been four games between the clubs at Ibrox, Celtic winning each: the first, coming from behind, the second, free-wheeling by a couple of goals, the third – scoring five, and the fourth – twice coming from behind, then winning with 10 men.

It is a litany of humiliation, played out while 7,000 have a party in a stadium, the rest of which is near-empty well before full time.  Can you imagine having to sit through this, season after season?  Of course they want to reduce our headcount and garner whatever competitive advantage possible.

There are problems.  League rules state a “reasonable number of visiting supporters” must be admitted.  This number should be agreed in advance with the visiting club, or else the SPFL board will adjudicate.

Then there is the small matter of the Ibrox safety certificate, which Dave King previously said depended on Celtic fans being given the Broomloan Stand.  The police insist each set of fans have distinct and separate approaches to stadiums at high-risk games.

Celtic will be happy to reduce the number of Newco fans they have to accommodate – it should shelve talk of having to put prison-grade toilet facilities in areas they visit.  Each away team will suffer a competitive disadvantage, but making visits to Ibrox trickier will do our European preparations no harm.

Whatever the police and SPFL say, Dave King has more to worry about.

He still has to get £11m out of South Africa and into a UK bank account.
He needs to satisfy the Takeover Panel before he can start a share issue.
He needs to satisfy the Court of Session over his failure to comply with Takeover Panel instructions.
He needs to satisfy loans due by 1 July (Oh you thought they were all going to be converted to shares, did you? Wait for this one).
He needs to fund a trading shortfall for next season.
He needs to find enough cash to keep the management team on-side before the transfer window closes.
And he needs to convince Uefa they satisfy Financial Fair Play regulations.  Straightforward if you have lots of cash, don’t need to use it to buy-out other shareholders at 20p/share, repay loans or fund a football team.

There is simply too much to do.  Better to circle the wagons by throwing some crumbs to the easily-deluded.  You know how this story ends.

It’s the 25th May.  It is also the weekend.  You have permission to wallow in nostalgia for 24 hours.  Enjoy it.

You can also participate in Green Day: donate £5 (see below) to the Foundation.  You’ll enjoy this too.

  7. On the subject of BIG PACKY, i’m not going to berate the guy , for one reason and one reason only , now its only my opinion but , anyone who could come up with the amount of stories conflict that he had regularly led me to think he had Mental Health issues and maybe the blog was cathartic for him.

We live and learn , hopefully we move on now with or without him .

Artbhoy and Thunder Road have a lot in common.

Both have fabulous talent and both are just extremely nice blokes who are the absolute salt of the earth.

I know artbhoy (George Smith) better and can honestly say he is just a gem of a man. He also has a fantastic wife and family. Had I had more time on Friday I would have had George come up and have his photo taken with you and the painting.

We are working together (and let me assure you that it is mostly him doing the work because he has the talent) on a we bit pf an unusual fundraiser for later in the year called Celtic in 67 paintings.

George is doing 67 canvasses featuring players going as far back as the great Jimmy Quinn, Dan Doyle etc through Patsy Gallagher, Jimmy McGrory, Jimmy Delaney, Charlie Tully, Bertie Peacock, Bobby Evans, etc etc all the way up to Kieran etc.

There will also be different scenes of Celtic Park through the ages.

It will be treally quite something and we plan on putting an exhibition on within the stadium at some point and the paintings will be sold with the foundation getting at least some of the proceeds. We will sort out the details when I come back from Holiday.

BTW if you are going to Lisbon make sure you go down to the Time Out Market near Cais do Sodre.

Thanks for your support at the dinner on Friday.

I used to think to myself, naebody can be as stupit as the BP character, but I felt pity on him as I always do. He slapped my face last night for my good will towards him, which was going against my true thoughts about him. Hope he seeks professional help cause I think he needs it.

Much of what you say is very true, although I don’t imagine you will get much written agreement.

Diversity is what makes this blog so much more interesting that other blogs. But diversity isn’t to everybody’s taste if it disagrees with their opinion.

Reading back , I agree ; last night’s spats were mild compared with the nightshirt of a few years ago.

BP in my opinion comes into one of the categories you have listed. Virtual Companionship. Possibly trying too hard to be liked and relevant. I think he has misinterpreted some topics. But intentionally devious or trolling. No.

Let’s not get too worked up, it’s a blog. FfS. It’s general remit is in the name. That guys can meet up and have a swally is welcome spin off.

Compassion is a great virtue of this blog . It should extend to all in need and not just to certain clique.

Depending who you are, a hero’s welcome awaits every time you flounce in and out with “resignation “ speech’s akin to failed politicians.

There should be no hierarchy of posters. Each and every poster should be valued equally , with the same level of respect shown. Many of us like discussing fine foods, travel and high profiLe occasions , but equal consideration must be given to others who cannot indulge. In my opinion of course.

Anyway it’s good to hear that Celtic are compiling a report outlining the vast economic benifits that the club brings to the city. I sincerely hope we don’t utilise a failed RBS economist to present it.

HH to all and woof woof.

Of course there’s always storm clouds over ipox.

Greenpinata @ 8.08…we are in agreement…I imagined perhaps BP was on his own with his dogs and in reaching out to the blog, was inventing stories to gain attention and garner sympathy…that in itself is not a crime but…who knows!? I just hope he is okay…

  16. The multi-monikered in’n’oots are a FACT of bhlog life……thur only here because the bhlog is a source of influence that they imo despise………

From the barking mad fantasist to the trompe l’oeil trolling terracing titan…….aw the same.

  17. BMCUWP: never got your reply. I will put something on the bhlog tomorrow. Spoke to some going over at BRTH’s do and they were all up for it.

Marspapa: got home safely yesterday evening. Became an expert drammer of smokey whiskeys under the tutelage of ACGR after we left the Kerrydale. Enjoyed your company on Friday night.

It was my pleasure. Great night had by all and just happy to contribute to the charity.

Looking forward to seeing the 67 paintings. Need to warn the wife that she’ll need to create some space above the mantle piece…

Thank you, she’s an absolute star and when she was injured she was distraught.

Her wee face is beaming tonight.

  20. I don’t want to continue the Big Packy spat, but apart from the fantasy stories he had a tendency to start raising the Catholic v Protestant issue and appeared to be posting anti Church of Scotland, stuff,in my opinion attempting to induce others to follow suit. Jamesgang put him in his place very quickly last week & Big Packy was quick to use his Get out of Jail Card. Didn’t mean to offend, don’t want aggro, I Luv ya o bits. HH Smiley thing.

If he is a gentle soul who meant no harm, he quickly opened up with two barrels showing he is no stranger to Industrial Language in the abuse he dished out last night.

My instinct tells me he has been around before, maybe it’s the Liverpool stuff but I wouldn’t be shocked if he is a reincarnation of RyeCatcher, another Poster who was prone to using Industrial Language when his Bona Fide was questioned.

Hopefully this is my last post about Big Packy unless of course he returns and starts bugging me again
