Lazy and conservative

111

Neither you nor I are medical experts, but if Leigh Griffiths can bang in a couple of goals for the reserves last night, he can take his place on the bench against his old club, Livingston, on Saturday.  The 11 games in five weeks before the winter break will go a long way to determining the success or otherwise of our season.  Going into this period with only Odsonne Edouard available up front places too much of a burden on the French striker.

Tottenham, honestly!  All the money in the world and they think Jose Mourinho is the next big thing in football management.  Five years ago, Mauricio Pochettino was an inspiring choice, the hottest property in England after setting Southampton on a road to finding and developing young players, before selling them at an enormous profit (including Victor Wanyama).

Mourinho is not without talent and he is undoubtedly box office, but his natural instincts are as far removed from Tottenham’s as it is possible to imagine.

Yet again, we look at a football club and wonder, with all these resources, why can’t you just go out and find a manager with a verifiable record of improving teams?  Is it really that difficult?

I’m over the Seville thing with Mourinho, no grudges left.  If he’s ever in town he’s welcome to draw the Paradise Windfall, but Tottenham do not deserve this appointment to be successful.  It is lazy and conservative – and there are enough like that around.

Personally, I feel that Leigh Griffiths still has a big part to play at Celtic.

    YNWA Leigh.

    🍀⚽️

  2. Anyone any idea why the Scotland strip had a red and white band around the sleeves. They will be bringing the black and red socks back next

  3. St Tams

Dunno about the socks but I hear that they’re going to put 5 stars on the strip – to commemorate our 5 group wins of course!

  4. St Tams

I mentioned this last week – of course no problem with the white but as it was pointed out the lion is ref on the badge.

So it should be a blue with white trim or yellow with red trim. 👍

Personally, I feel that Leigh Griffiths still has a big part to play at Celtic

    ——-

We’ll know the answer to that come the end of December.

If Leigh can not be relied upon to contribute given our next run of games then there’s no point in keeping him.

I hope he comes up good. He’d be an outstanding asset.

  6. Get Sinclair on the pitch and get him aome game time

He will definitely be needed if Elyouonnsi is out and with Griffiths unreliable leaving only Edouard

  7. An DUN – agreed. We all want him back but if he can’t be relied upon, for whatever reason, then we need to look at letting him go out on loan and replacing him for 2nd half of season:

My 1st preference (ok, my dream) – break the bank for a short-term contract for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, we’d get the money back in shirt sales and in goals.

My 2nd preference – Lawrence Shanklands. I’ve been saying we should sign him for last two seasons. He’d score for fun playing against SPFL opposition. I don’t care if he is a hun or doesn’t bleed green and white or isn’t CL standard or couldn’t lace LG’s boots. He’s a professional and would do a job for us. He’d be a low risk signing, wouldn’t cost much in fees or salary and gives us a proven goalscorer.

My 3rd preference – Start giving Sinclair game time as a sub for OE. He has a goal scorers natural instinct.

What I saw of Greg Taylor last night reminded me very much of a Keiran Teirney or an Andy Robertson . I think we’re on a winner with this bhoy.

  9. The Scotland strip with its red white and blue resembles a Rangers strip. I am old enough to remember fans wearing their Rangers scarves to Hampden.

The pattern of the hooped sleeves is common on other International shirts of adidas manufacture.

Previous Scotland home shorts were of Dark Blue and White and Yellow trim

  10. Word of caution to those regarding the Elyounoussi story. The source for the story is “Football Insider” a website with form for making up stories and branding it an “Exclusive”

It then hits all the other clickbait websites on newsnow. It’s all over Celtic Twitter now with people demanding Celtic “get it done”

The real price could be much higher, the player may want another crack at the EPL, Southampton may have a new Director of Football & Coach by the end of the season. So much is up in the air.

  11. Poch was finished at Spurs, most people who know their stuff down south knew the project had rans its course. Their target is top 4 and to win trophies, Mourinho has a track record of going that in the English football. Its about as low risk an appointment with those objectives in mind that you could hope for.

  12. DAVID17 on 20TH NOVEMBER 2019 5:25 PM

Remind me when Spurs last won a trophy.

A champions league final is obviously not good enough then, they deserve all that is coming to them for appointing Jose, he will fail with them like he failed at Man Utd, he is finished at the top.

  13. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

mr and mrs FU are delighted to announce that they will no longer and indeed have never been supportive of HRH FIFTY PUN OF LARD>.

  14. Pochettino has been an exceptionally good manager for Spurs but his downfall was not playing Lucas Moura in the champions league final in Madrid. In 1986 Terry Venables chose to start Steve Archibald for Barcelona , coming back from an injury, instead of the in form striker of the time Pichi Alonso, who had also scored a hat trick in the semi finals. El Tel failed and that was the beginning of the end for him too. I wonder what Mourinho would have done if he had been in charge?

  15. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

    RIMTIMTIM on 20TH NOVEMBER 2019 6:10 PM

jose did an interview re cup final and mentioned two players who played in final coming back from injury and said he could not remember one single thing any of those players had done.

he could recall the whole game kick for kick start to finish.

  16. A quick ” Google ” on Daniel Levy shows he is a very astute switched on cookie.

A record profit for a footie club last year and numerous record breaking scenarios.

The switch to the ” Special one ” would have been completely evaluated.

He reminds me of Fergus, even in meeting his other half.

    HH.

  17. Mourinho was a failure in his last 2 jobs and has been out of work for a year. His style of play is outdated and is not attractive to fans. However, it’s his relationship with players which is where his problem lies.

He was outed as a B***S***merchant at Chelsea and he lost the Dressing room at United. In my opinion he cannot come the “Special One” patter nowadays, his time has come and gone. 2 year contract and he will struggle to see it out.

  18. I’m over the Seville thing with Mourinho…

You’re a better mhan than me Paul….I cannot stand the bastard :O(

  19. Evening Bhoys,

Big crowd of us heading over from Éire for the game on Saturday. Realky looking forward to making my return to Paradise. Brazen Head to see the mighty Gary Óg then onto Celtic Park for the Livi game – no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

On a sidenote if any of you Bhoys hear of two spare tickets going for the Wolfe Tones gig in the Barras on Sat night can you let me know. Many thanks.

Will he still get taxpayers money to fund his private(s) lifestyle?

    Questions, questions………………..

  21. *** CQN PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2019-20 ***

    * AS WE COME OUT OF THE INTERNATIONAL BREAK *

Just 3 more sleeps until we all have to get our voting hats on again to pick the best 3 performers in each of our forthcoming games. Just to refresh your memories, since I kicked off this wee survey on 29th August (our away trip to AIK) there have been 16 games and the individual Man Of The Match table looks like this –

3 – Odsonne Edouard (Kilmarnock, Ross County, Aberdeen) and James Forrest (AIK, Hamilton, St Mirren

2 – Scott Brown (Hibs [that draw], Cluj), Christopher Jullien (Sevco, Rennes) and Mohammed Elyounoussi (Livingston, Hibs [semi final])

1 – Olivier Ntcham (Partick), Ryan Christie (Lazio [home]), Fraser Forster (Lazio [away]) and Jonny Hayes (Motherwell)

However, the Player Of The Year table is slightly different – remember that man of the match earns you 5 points, 2nd best gets 4 etc. Here’s how the top 10 currently stand –

    33 – Brown

    32 – Edouard

    23 – Forrest

    22 – Christie and Elyounoussi

    18 – Jullien

    17 – Frimpong

    14 – McGregor

    13 – Bolingoli-Mbombo

    11 – Bauer

So, what can we all learn from that? Well, I haven’t a scooby! But maybe it’ll start a Celtic related debate!

  22. Hello again all you young rebels.

From a blistering hot Melbourne, 34 degs yesterday but cooling down

I suppose all you ghuys have seen the Si Ferry interviews on Open Goal

when they were broadcast? i’m just catching up on utube, some very

funny ones, Chic Charnley, Frank Macavennie, etc and i’ve just watched

Scot McDonald try and explain helicopter Sunday and that goal.

I’ve tried to see his side of it and have some sympathy but as i have

previously said to his father John on a few occasions ” he should have

    skied the feckin thing. ”
