JAMES McCARTHY faces at least six weeks on the sidelines after suffering an injury setback.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou confirmed the former Republic of Ireland international midfielder has sustained a “significant” hamstring strain that means he is out of the reckoning for a place in the forthcoming two matchday squads, according to a report in the Daily Express.

The champions are due to play Motherwell at Fir Park tomorrow night and then Ross County at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon before going into the World Cup Finals break.

OUT…injury blow for midfielder James McCarthy.

The soccer showpiece will start in Qatar with the hosts playing Ecuador a week on Sunday with the grand finale due three weeks later on December 18.

The Hoops are scheduled to restart the league crusade with a trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen on Saturday the 17th.

That will be a date in 31-year-old McCarthy’s diary as he attempts to get back into his manager’s plans for the second half of the title crusade.
