Medical tomorrow as player agrees terms

620

I heard two bits of good news today.  First, and most importantly, season ticket sales have been fantastic.  We’re well on track to reach target.  We don’t know what next season will bring from several revenue streams, most importantly what European football will deliver, but knowing the income arriving from season tickets allows the club to make early decisions.

Specifically, a couple of hours ago we agreed terms (with player and club) for the outright purchase of a player, currently registered with an English Premier League club.  He  flies north tonight and will sign subject to a medical, booked for tomorrow.  I understand the coaching staff are delighted at the capture as he’s been our number one priority for some time.

Tip for the day: don’t ask ‘sources close to the club’ what the consequences of today’s result at Fir Park are for us, unless you want a lecture about how:
We’re on our own……
We know we’re on our own……
We’ll stand or fall on our own merits……
We don’t need money from two derby games that we could almost match from a good run in the cups……
We need to build a successful Celtic team……
We need to pull a squad together for the qualifiers……
We need five-in-a-row……
And none of this is changed whatsoever by who else is in the Premiership.  Not.  An.  Inch.

That’s me told.  I also got the feeling no one at Celtic has any appetite to be involved in the kind of scenes we witnessed at Fir Park today.  It’s not the image we have for our future.  We want a successful, family club, open to all.  As it has been since 1888.

Anyway, I’m sworn to secrecy on the identity of the player, but you’re smart, you’ll figure it out.  Well done with the season tickets, take a bow.

You can fail on a lot of levels.

    Humility isn’t earned it’s learned.

McCall should remember that the next time he’s conducting an open interview on TV, slagging off the players he’s got by comparison to Stubb’s ‘clean sweep’ when moving to Hibs, as some sort of proof he’ll come good.

They all deserve each other – and we deserve their absence – for another year

No old firm anymore, but if you equate the reaction on here to that fair play, oldco/newco it’s still the same hatred from their fans, the less they are in my life the better but surely we as Celtic fans can still laugh at the “people”

Don’t know much about Boyata but I trust Ronny and the coaches, on the evidence of our signings the manager is now the deciding who he will sign rather than John park.

    —–

The key for me, is signing guys we have a bit of knowledge on.

In recent years, our best signings have been guys who either

    1) we have the inside track on because they played against us, played against the coaches etc Hooper, Wilson, Griffiths , Gordon, Mulgrew etc

    2) We have properly scouted on paper and then followed up by watching 2/3 times – VVD, Johansen

Our big failing is guys we sign last minute before the close of transfer deadlines. On paper these guys may look good, but reality is the last minutes Bangura, Puuki, Boerrighter, Wakaso, invariably turn out to be duds.

I know there are exceptions to all above, but, the fact that Boyota is in early doors is very pleasing

  21. Some may think that quonno went a bit far in the gloating stakes earlier this wonderful evening. He certainly did not.

He is old enough to remember in its full nastiness THEIR coat trailing ogfTHE Seven Lean Years.

Even more recently, as Murray promised THEM heaven as he led THEM to hell, he had to endure in his workplace, THEIR insufferable arrogance as, mainly for his benefit, THEY would loudly proclaim THEIR offended frustration that big teams like THEM should have to play in diddy competitions like the League Cup.

Tomorrow morning, before going forth to enjoy the first day of summer with his good lady, he will stand in front of the mirror for five minutes or so, practicing his straight face.

He makes no apoLogy for repeating his first post of earlier this evening.
