Milanese mistakes, Sevco Annual Return

705

Milan’s mistake with their Champions League squad – they inadvertently included Stephan El Shaarawy in their restricted A List of players, instead of the B List, denying a place in either list for M’Baye Niang, is welcome news. Their squad is strong, with or without Niang, but the oversight lends credence to the notion that a malaise has settled over the club. Director, Umberto Gandini apologised, but already the Milanese are focused on what they don’t have in their armory as a result of the oversight – an excuse for failure is ready made.

I met the owner of an IT company shortly before they went into liquidation and asked him who he had on his board.  “Are you not on our board too?” was his jocular response.  The company had already gone through a couple of difficult years.  With each passing period investors became increasingly concerned; they all wanted a place around the boardroom table, convinced that their gilt-edged experience would be able to guide the company through its troubles.

The chief exec had to cope not-so-much with a boardroom full of captains of industry (which they were), as another pressure group to satisfy, along with clients, creditors, staff and the bank (they may have been weeks from liquidation, but they still had borrowing, this was not a Metro Bank deposit account-only operation).

The chief exec understood the industry and, left to his own devices, stood a sporting chance at survival, but when the boardroom table became occupied by a parcel of rogues the game was up.

On a completely separate matter, I am delighted at the prospect of Paul Murray and John McClelland having a second shot at being a non-executive director of a football club.  Wikipedia’s definition of the roles of a non-exec is worth a cursory glance to indicate why.  They did so well last time.  The others, who it is proposed will share a place at Newco’s table, also appear perfect for the role.  If only Sir David would come out of retirement and join them.

Will one of the many directors insist that The Rangers Football Club Ltd submits its Annual Return to Companies House? Under its previous name, Sevco Scotland Ltd, The Rangers Football Club Ltd bought liquidation assets from Duff and Phelps, and which, according to Rangers International’ PLC’s interim financial statement in March, was incorporated into the PLC’s group.

The Return is over two months late.  Perhaps, with so many directors available for comment, one will be asked by a journalist or shareholder why the company which bought all the assets has not submitted basic information, revealing ownership details. Perhaps not. No hurry, a striking off notice will be weeks away.

I’d say thems going into Administration could well be classed as a good news event :-)

It’s not a survey, we have enough of them on here. I’m merely being inquisitive.

I constantly read how posters on here will never attend a game against Sevco but in many ways all that does is reinforce their claim of being our biggest/oldest rivals.

If we are to find ourselves drawn against this new entity then we should turn up and beat them, in the same manner that we do with most other Scottish clubs.

Gunning is a classless, pseudo-hard man centre-half with very limited ability.

His challenge (jumping into Lustig with right leg leading and no chance of winning the ball) that led to big Lustig’s injury was clearly a bookable offence, but I believe he got away with that due to the manner of Mikael’s injury.

Gunning also fully deserves to be banned for his clear kick out at Virgil after the ball was away.

Jackie needs his dummy thrown back at him.

I might be going against the grain here bhoys but, while I think the manner in which Dundee Utd are handling the situation, I agree with the key objection they are making. Punishments are being handed out based on footage that has been edited. An editorial decision has been made about what to highlight and what to leave out. If the SFA want to use TV decide nice to hand out punishments retrospectively then they need to be reviewing all footage of every game and not just what is selected for broadcast. Celtic have been subject to this kind of selective use of video footage in the past.

DU should stop moaning, and accept the suspension handed out accordingly to

said player who was going around like a bull after a red flag.

Not only did said culprit kick out at tall Van The Man, he also put Mikel Lustig

into next week with one of his challenges and Mikel probably out for 4 weeks.

Then the same player started moaning about Stokes being tripped outside

the box what is he now refereeing the match. If I was on the review panel at

the SFA I would have increased his suspension to 4 matches for complaining

& Inform him if we hear anymore of his complaints we will just keep on increasing

his suspension with also a fine thrown in. Where did D.U. sign him from a

Canadian Ice Hockey Team named ‘The Bad News Pit Bull Terriers’ After all

he is performing on a football pitch not in an old Roman Coliseum.

I don’t think you can blame Jackie for standing up for his player, he’s the manager of Dundee Utd now don’t forget. In addition he hasn’t actually said anything derogatory or even critical of Celtic.

I don’t know, but they may have legitimately been concentrating on something else, and the ball was long gone. You can’t legitimately punish the officials every time there’s an off the ball incident.

If a ref’s actually watching an incident and doesn’t call it, that’s a different matter.

  21. HT,

Personally, I was saddened by McNamara’s whole approach to the game. He sent out a team full of people like Gunning and Paton, who typify the type who put McNamara out of the game when he was a young player. Scottish football is never going to improve while the managers have that approach to the game.

I’m not disputing that Gunning was guilty mate. Also, I think it’s self-defeating for Dundee Utd to talk about banning the BBC. My point is that, if the SFA are going to use video evidence (which thay have been doing increasingly) then they need to look at the whole 90 minutes and not just the highlights on the telly. Perhaps they do, but I’ve not seen an announcement from them that this is their new approach to determining retrospective punishments?

  29. Airline jets in to offer Celtic fans flights to Barca match:

A BUDGET airline is to lay on a special flight to take Celtic fans from Glasgow to Barcelona to watch their team play at the Camp Nou Stadium in the UEFA Champions League. Gordon Thomson Evening Times.

Return tickets, costing from £266, went on sale today with Jet2.com promising to have Parkhead fans in the Spanish city in plenty of time before the kick-off.

Airline chiefs currently operate three flights to Barcelona each week but have decided to organise a football special after the Old Firm club’s dramatic extra time win over Shakhter Karagandy at Celtic Park earned them a glamour Euro tie against the Spanish giants on Wednesday, December 11.

The Jet2 flight will leave Glasgow Airport at 7am on the day of the game and will touch down in Barcelona at 10.45am local time.

The return flight leaves Barcelona the following day at 12.30pm.

No overnight packages have been organised but the airline’s sister firm, Jet2holidays, can offer accommodation to supporters.

One example given is an overnight double/twin room after the match in a two-star hotel for £333 per person. The price includes the return air fare.

Jet2 will be using a Boeing 737-300 plane which can carry 189 fans.

Jet2’s chief commercial officer Steve Heapy said: “We are delighted to be able to help Celtic fans get to Barcelona again for this all important UEFA Champions League tie.

If any one of them sees it he would have got a yellow maybes a red.
