More to gain from Croatia progressing than Japan

160

With 12 days before Celtic are back in action, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Aaron Mooy are now out of the World Cup and will soon be back in Glasgow, rested and ready for action.  This afternoon, either Josip Juranovic (Croatia) or Daizen Maeda (Japan) will also be out of the competition, while one will progress to the quarter finals.

Daizen is likely to be eased back into action gradually, I don’t expect him to see our next outing at Aberdeen.  Josip is the clear first choice at right back and with Alastair Johnston unable to play until the transfer window opens on 1 January, Josip is the player we are likely to miss most, if his stay in Qatar is extended again.

Winners of Croatia- Japan are likely to face Brazil (should they overcome S. Korea) at the quarter final stage on Friday.  If Josip is looking for a move, that would be a perfect theatre to showcase his talents.  You might also consider that it does our competitive advantage in the Japanese market any good if Japan continue to beat quality European sides.  Maybe best for Croatia to progress.

It’s a stretch, but if Japan or Croatia managed to overcome Brazil of S. Korea, one of them would be in Qatar until the final weekend or the tournament, after Celtic kick off against Aberdeen.

  1. The idea of penalties is to score, not make the goalkeeper look silly.

Most of the modern day penalties takers are prima donnas.,delighted when they miss .HH

  2. i do think absolute knackerdness is a factor when trudging up to take that penalty, none of them looked confident, everybody looked done.

for all the samuria mentality, i think they left everything on the pitch during the game and where done.

neither do i believe they dont take penalties in practice,

    anyhways cmon france.

  5. My friends in Celtic,

Yugoslavia broke up in 1991, since then Croatia have had a great record in major tournaments. Remarkable considerating that its population is only circa 3 million people.

Their football youth development programme is exceptinal.

For example, all 26 players selected for their Euro 2020 squad had been through the HNS youth development system.

In my opinion this demonstrates just how successful youth coaching can be.

If we are to continue with Lennoxtown as a viable concern, then this is something we must emulate.

    HH.

  6. do you mean send the scottish kids to croatia or bring their coaches here ?

you know the HNS academy is the equivaelent of the SFA performance schools set up ?

  7. I am going to make a stab at this,

I doubt there will be many individual players at the world cup who did not come through a club academy or a national association performance school.

like jackson irvine making it all the way with australia, where did he start ? anyone ?

Totally agree re Engerland cricket team.

I struggle to support them but have to admire their approach.

  10. Saint Stivs,

Yeah, send all our kids to Croatia. The Croatia travel guide will point them in the right direction for the many historic attractions the country has to offer. They don’t even have to buy Euros, Croatia has its own dosh.

However, presently I will make you aware that the new country is famous for its football. It is very proud of its youth development and football achievement.

I really don’t know what you have against progress and trying to do better .

Lack of ambition is very common, but luckily for us Ange is ambitious.

Some people are naturally afraid of change in football and beyond. There is mentoring available to help them deal with this fear, so I would not worry too much.

The Celtic youth academy is a world class facility, but we are not getting world class results.

We must look for improvement or its viability will be questioned.

I’m sure you’ll agree that improvement is part of the mantra of “We never stop”.

I have always wanted the England cricket team to do well. I think that that may be because I always found that the cricket commentators put cricket first and nationality second. Since Test matches were no longer shown live on terrestrial TV, though, I have not watched the game anywhere nearly as much as I once did so that neutral attitude ( of commentators) may well have changed.

” Rangers fan shareholder group Club 1872 will vote against the reappointment of chairman Douglas Park at the Scottish Premiership club’s annual meeting.”

I know a lot of Celtic people thought the club coming on

a trip to Oz was a waste of time, but believe me we needed

    it badly.

Kids now know first hand what it feels like, what their

fathers, grandfathers, have been telling them for years, it’s

that special feeling in your heart, you only get when you’re

actually at a game they are playing in.

I never had a problem supporting England at cricket growing up, there wasn’t a Scotland team and Mike Denness who was born and brought up in west Scotland captained England and played a fair few times for the test team when I first got interested in the game.

There’s been a few since then as well, and some Welsh and Irishmen, the team is pretty international and the people who follow it don’t really give a monkeys in my experience.

  22. I think the number of second generation Asians and west Indians who support both England and their patents and grandparents makes a difference

Most of those kids are at their first game.

They are bombarded daily by the media about the EPL, and

why it’s the only league worth watching, just look at the joy

on their faces, they are the Celtic family, and the future of

    our support here in Oz.

We must foster that very carefully ☘️🇮🇪
