With 12 days before Celtic are back in action, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Aaron Mooy are now out of the World Cup and will soon be back in Glasgow, rested and ready for action. This afternoon, either Josip Juranovic (Croatia) or Daizen Maeda (Japan) will also be out of the competition, while one will progress to the quarter finals.
Daizen is likely to be eased back into action gradually, I don’t expect him to see our next outing at Aberdeen. Josip is the clear first choice at right back and with Alastair Johnston unable to play until the transfer window opens on 1 January, Josip is the player we are likely to miss most, if his stay in Qatar is extended again.
Winners of Croatia- Japan are likely to face Brazil (should they overcome S. Korea) at the quarter final stage on Friday. If Josip is looking for a move, that would be a perfect theatre to showcase his talents. You might also consider that it does our competitive advantage in the Japanese market any good if Japan continue to beat quality European sides. Maybe best for Croatia to progress.
It’s a stretch, but if Japan or Croatia managed to overcome Brazil of S. Korea, one of them would be in Qatar until the final weekend or the tournament, after Celtic kick off against Aberdeen.

Paul67,
I totally disagree with you Today.
Japan for me. :)
Maeda better through centre?
I also have MAEDA to Score at ANYTIME v Croatia, and for JAPAN to Win 3 – 2 at odds of 80/1.
its difficult to see FOUR more Goals being scored in the 2nd Half ?
Never say Never….
LOL

Mmmmm don’t think Maeda will be the subject of much criticisms tonight, defo out the running of scapegoat,I would say,if Japan go through you might even be good enough to be mentioned in asset terms.we will see .Happy to hear Celtics centre forward puts Japan ahead in the WC last 16.
Brilliant.

Yes. Funny that. Can’t think why?
Well, hopefully after next Saturday night it will be business as usual.
Celtic top in Japan crowd.
Nice equaliser.
That is an incredible header.
1-1

Jermaine Jenas has been singing Maeda’s praises all through the game on BBC site
That’s Maeda off. Really good hour of play
Juranovic a solid player in what is a poor Croatia team. I’d be delighted to get £10 million for him.
Guy Mowbray remembers the script says mention Rainjurz
PICINISCO @ 4.04pm
If they were to go on and win it, can’t see it to be honest, it will be funny listening to them tying themselves in knots .
This looks like going to extra time . . .
Barasic spends more time rolling about looking for free kicks than the entire Porto team from Seville…
Odd to see the contributers on this site warned against snide digs and name calling under the threat of banishment by an individual who refers to Hearts players as mini huns…
15 mins more then penalties . . .
Rio Ferdinand on Daizen Maeda: “An absolute livewire. He looks like a man possessed. You wouldn’t want to play against that. With and without the ball he’s an absolute nuisance… the catalyst for the others.”
japan should bring on kyogo now,
Looks like Japan going out. Miss first two penalties.
Keeper saves again. Japan scored 1 out of 4.
Croatia score. All over.
Japan worse than us when it comes to penalties.
Jeezo, have any of the Japanese players ever practised taking a penalty?
Japan obviously do not practice penalties . Shame to see them go out .
Fine goal keeping or poor penalty strikes?
Poor penalties tbh!
Well done Juranovic 👍,consoling Maeda …….
I was a little confused at the standard taking Maeda off after an hour stuff. It was always possible that the game would go to extra time. He clearly didn’t want to come off. Japan went into the finals with the idea that they could get away without ” Wasting” a place on a goalscorer. Chickens came home to roost today.
Japan lost a lot, when Maeda went off
I don’t get it.
There are 4 corners in the goals. If you hit it hard into one of these corners, you will score in the vast majority of penalties.
And yet, seasoned professionals persist in not hitting them hard, and doing virtually everything but hit it into a corner.
As such, I have no sympathy for these kind of misses.
Huge incentive for Brazil and South Korea tonight, as Croatia look eminently beatable.
They never give up, though, if you let them stay in the game.
What dreadful penalties.
Seeing the 2 Celts at the end, gave me a pleasant festive feeling.
The Return of Wee Ron
I would have thought that it would be easier on the nerves to take a run-up and hit it hard, whatever part of the goal you want to put it, rather than rely on placement alone.
Congratulations Croatia.nae luck Japan
I dare say twitter will soon have pics of Daizen and Josip having a wee hug.i hope they enjoy a wee rest before coming back fresh and raring to go.

I believe that the key is have the decision made before the game. Hard into a particular corner. That way there is no indecision, no changing your mind, no doubt and a lot less nerves.
The worst penalties are those that require the keeper to get out of the way.
If you batter it hard into a corner, then fair play to the keeper if he saves it.
‘Mon the boys from Brazil. Nothing against Korean Republic, just insurance purposes as England expects, apparently, and wouldn’t mind seeing a Brazil v Argentina semi-final at a World Cup either.
The Return of Wee Ron
Sound advice, wonder why so many players don’t seem to take that approach. Others, who are good enough, don’t do that as they are waiting to see where the keeper’s diving before the kick. Risky unless you’re very confident in your technique.
