More warning signs for Celtic

268

Fair play to Newco, a 3-0 win after a 2-0 defeat is an achievement.  Anyone who thinks this season will be easy has not been paying attention.  Whatever they do in the Champions League playoff round, they will arrive at Celtic Park three weeks on Saturday battle ready.

The circa £5m they earned last night will go towards supporting their structural deficit for the coming season, pending the outcome of their tie against PSV.  There is real opportunity, or jeopardy, in those games.

Celtic have to consider whether they are ready to overcome the challenge.  Despite early season good form and a manager who delivered spectacularly last season, it is far from clear we are.  Newco changed manager mid-term, suffered a midseason wobble, but finished strong, arguably the strongest.

We await to competitively deploy Alexandro Bernabei, Moritz Jenz may, or may not, be used when Carl Stafelt is fit and we are yet to find out what Aaron Mooy can deliver.  In short, we can only offer an aspirational opinion on whether our first choice 11 is stronger than last term, or we simply have more cover.

It is reassuring that we continue to be linked with quality players.  If our business this month is close to as effective as last August’s, you will enjoy 3 September.

It was 27° here in Prestonpans yesterday, no fun for the 🐶 who is black. I got him to sit under one of my trees only for him to pop out hyper ventilate, then chase him back. At least today he’s at his ‘once a week’ visit to doggy club, they provide them with pools of water😱👍👏🐶🐶

So Juranovic is on the radar of Man U and chelski – smsm selling our players again

    ————————–

Celtic Park has been a happy hunting ground for English clubs in the last few years so we will get a fair bit of interest before the window gently closes over

It reached 33 here yesterday – I’m dog sitting as well as grandson minding today.

As far as Juranovic is concerned if you believe some on here he can’t tackle or cross a ball

  5. Is it not Tony Ralston that Chelsea are interested in. Considering some think that he’s actually better than Juranuvic

“ if you believe some on here”

(never believe anything you read on the internet, including this post :-)

By all accounts Tavpen is the best right back in the world and his “numbers” back this up … so Croatia’s right back must be way off any top 6 EPL clubs radar ..

surely James T should be their top target

Seriously … I would like one or two new signings in with probably Julienne & Ajetti going on loan .. but hope bhoys like Jura, Matt O & Turnbull stay where they are, Ange done not too bad in a difficult EL section, so let’s see what this squad can do in the CL … give me 3rd place just now, which I think is achievable even in our “group of death” which we will obviously get on the 25th Aug

  7. Reading my ipad this morning in the section what the papers say, I discovered this beauty.

.”World media react to Rangers Euro glory as cowering USG spooked by legendary Ibrox Monsters” .On reading further on I found two quotes, one from Het Laatste Nieuws, a Flemish paper in Belgium. The second quote was the French sports paper L’Equipe.

I have heard people say the world is diminishing, but tempted to say you could make it up, but that rag can.

I remember a few years ago during a CL campaign Broonie was top of the stats re completed passes. The fact that 99% of them were less than 5 yds and either sideways or back didn’t seem to matter. 🤭

That was a fine message from Helena and Eileen Boyle.

I was one of a few who expressed disappointment at Juranovic’s performances v Aberdeen and Ross County and I suggested that Ralston might be worth a start at Rugby Park.

If you can’t come on to CQN and state a preference for one player over another for a forthcoming game without being ridiculed then really, what is this blog all about?

I do expect a few hammerings in the CL like the PSG games but then again I enjoyed watching some of the finest players in the world.

Like you third place is my target👍

  12. Some people with imaginative memories.Only one very infrequent poster, thank God,Brian F, stated that Tony was far superior to JJ.The rest said, that on the form shown early games,Tony was playing better,a view held by many, but not necessarily so,as the song goes.

  13. Tom Mc Laughlin,

The poster complaining is the same guy who had not a good word to say about Greg Taylor last season. No arguement brooked.

    Thanks for the reply.

Not that this is important but I said I was the guy in the bright yellow top but when looked at the photo again ,I saw that there was another( much younger!) guy in a bright yellow top. mine is the more golden coloured.

Am not ruling out 2nd place until it’s arithmetically impossible … but in my tiny brain treat the 3rd seed & us as an old two legged affair, get the 4pts / 6pts out of those two games then European fitba after Christmas (World Cup) should be a goer

Am still just enjoying not being involved in these CL qualifiers so Europe is already better than the last decade :-)

  16. The Tavernier fan club increases, with very big ass licker Jim Duffy now coming out to tell us that Tav could play for a top 6 EPL club.Better than any of Man U RBs.Which,if he engaged his brain, might not have been the best comparison. Both Man U RBs can’t defend either. Why,you would wonder, would this Superstar never be mentioned by any EPL team,in any transfer window,in fact, never be mentioned by any Engerlund manager for a call up,even to the squad. At 30 years of age !!!.

But who are we to get in the way of the incredible Ibrox bandwagon,in full trundle.Every player sought after for huge fees, the world discussing them over their morning Coffee.Awestruck kids dreaming on hearing about their momentous result against,USG,asking their parents,

    “USG,WHO ARE DEY”

  17. bournesouprecipe on

Players agent Hussein Algaaod from Adroit Sports Management, appears to have a petted lip over Juranovic’s cut price Celtic transfer judging by his kite flying for another big move. The Croatian full back had a good, not great year at Celtic vying 50/50 with rejuvenated Tony Ralston for the inverted role in AP’s system.

Linked with Athleti last month we’re now in Tavernier to Manchester territory, but unlike other clubs we hold the whip hand if a bid comes in, as we don’t need to sell. Two players for every position unless it’s an offer we can’t refuse which in todays market would be north of £15M.

Given AP’s fleet footed recruitment style a list of replacements already exists, or Celtic are ignoring agent chicanery for a new improved contract, in a world where everyone needs a pay rise.

  18. Tom Mc – Where did Rangers play their opening league game?

Not got a clue what you are on about?

I am talking about Celtic and the bias against us.

  19. If anyone has a PigsEar lying about the house, send it into the Record. You should recieve back a lovey bejeweled purse for the wife’s Xmas.

Well ,any media outlet, that in the middle of gloating about how much cash the Huns will recieve from their win over USG,can add,as a further fantastic bonus, they will now be able to play 2 more games, instead of sitting about with no midweek games to play, just waiting for the EL to start.

    Celtic raging.

  20. If any club are showing interest in Juranovic then we have to set the price of 20 – 25 Million as a starting point for negotiations.

    D :)

  21. Just who is the person, telling the world that JJ would go for £ 15 million. The now established RB,or LB,that his Croatian manager raved about. Is it the same guy who valued the 42 senior game veteran Bassey,at £25 million?.

  22. Per Tom McLaughlin post ….I absolutely concur 100%…No coincidence whatsoever , the fixture fix is in this year again!?..and it will be the same when the “split” comes round….Once again what is that “ chairman “ Bankier doing about the brithers helping their brithers!?…yip foxtrot Oscar as he is one !!

  23. bigrailroadblues on

My team for Sunday; Joe, Tank, Greg, St Moritz, CCV, Captain, the Bull, Matt, Kyogo, Jota, Liel. You read it here first. 😂

  24. That “fixtures fix” , how exactly has it impacted Celtic at anytime in the last 11 Seasons ?

  25. Still miserable weather up here in the Western Isles. So a bit of envy for the temperatures in the mainland.

Lovely place here but totally blighted by a wretched summer, Calmac and Brexit impact on staffing / workers for the hospitality sector.

If ever anyone wanted to look at the real impact of macro policies then coming to a place like this for a few days would open their eyes.

It’s not about sound bites and big numbers it is about real work, a real economy and real life.

Despite this we have had some truly excellent tourist experiences this past few days. The aspiration to provide quality is there for sure. Huge credit to the locals.

Oh and the water / beaches are better for swimming than any bloody chlorine filled pool…even in the rain and cold.

The weather has given me a chance to reflect on the absolutely incredible job Ange has done in taking us to where we are. Despite the gang of folk lining up to say ‘I told you so’ and that we will lose in Europe, I genuinely think with a decent draw we can get to the last 16 or beyond this season. Ajax Leipzig and Shaktar would be that.

As for domestics I do believe rangers could be better but next week is massive for them. Regardless though I believe we will win the league.

Rangers won’t have the resource to win on 2 fronts if they win. Their bubble will burst if they lose and the financials come into play.

Maybe rose tinted glasses but our system and evolving improvement will win out.

  26. There is no fixture fix !

Maybe other bias going on but not at the SPFL imo.

    SFA / Media maybe.

  27. BSR

Jura is one year into a 5 year deal signed after a season in the polish first tier and a 2.5m move. He’s looking at 4 years on a low wage until he’s 31, an age when full backs are finished these days.

You can’t blame his agent for trying to renegóciate better terms by suggesting interest from high paying prem clubs

Being too old and not good enough for man United and Chelsea doesn’t mean he isn’t a very good player for Celtic.

Jura is ` looking at 4 years on a low wage`.

    How much is his `low wage` ?

  30. Does anyone seriously believe there is a ” fixture fix” ?

The ” Moon Landings” is one thing but fixture fix is a conspiracy even too far for me.

    HH, the journey continues.

  31. HOT SMOKED on 11TH AUGUST 2022 11:43 AM

I don’t know, but his transfer fee and experience before coming to us (one season in the polish first tier the rest of us career in Croatia) would normally mean his contract would be for a relatively low salary. I doubt Celtic would offer him a five year contract on a big wage, it’s a risk I doubt they’d take on a player who’d gave little resale value and little top grade experience

  32. Ok chaps maybe the word fix could be changed …ok let’s call it subtle manipulation or just good old fashioned cheating …just check the “ tricky” fixture list over last 3 years and in particularly why when the split is determined we always seem to have to play some top 6 clubs 3 times away and thems don’t ….usually in my opinion because it’s always front end loaded and we always get more of the tricky away ties at the beginning of the campaign …example we kicked off the previous campaign away to Hearts ( with a resultant defeat and the usual outrageous official decisions) …thems on the other hand kick off agains Livingston this year …I know the fixture I would prefer and so do THEY …..not paranoid enough chaps !…
