Nawrocki breaking the lines

70

The St Mirren result at Aberdeen dropped as you and I glowed in reflective glory from the result at the weekend.  0-3 away from home is an excellent return at any venue for any side, Saturday’s result is a signal that this evening’s opponents are to be taken seriously.

Even against a side below them in the league, St Mirren put on a counter-attacking display.  Defend tightly and hit on the break.  Brendan Rodgers will surely have watched the game back in preparation for today and will know that the smaller pitch at St Mirren Park will make the home side’s game plan even more effective.

I am looking forward to seeing Maik Nawrocki play a full 90 minutes.  His passing through the lines on Saturday was a standout feature of a very solid performance.  Breaking lines from central defence is a shortcoming we’ve had for a couple of years; hopefully we have a resolution in the making.

  1. Gutted for Kyogo, delighted for us.

    Can Kuhn fill a void?

Seems he has two feet and can use them both.

  2. Has our board complained about a Celtic fan being spat at by an opposition player yet?

Or are they just there to ban Celtic fans?

They are consulting with an external resource on next steps. A chap with experience called El-Hadji Diouf.

  4. Also a serious question. Has any Celtic board/custodians banned Celtic supporters in our history?

    As I say it’s a genuine question as I don’t know.

Have any of the posters concerned about this phoned the polis and reported it or asked if it is being investigated?

Excellent post. Making signings will always be a gamble, but attracting guaranteed quality players to the SPHELL is virtually impossible.

    As for Maik breaking lines?

All well and good and I fully support higher risk, higher reward ball movement from the defence …. as opposed to the slower, safer, more lateral alternative.

We just need to support the players when it does not work (leading directly to “higher risk”).

Malik’s half assist at the weekend is a good example, IMHO.

Watching it at the game it looked like an incredibly intelligent and accurate line breaker.

Seeing it again on Celtic TV’s Unique Angle?

The lane was incredibly narrow and the pass was almost intercepted.

    Fine margins and all that.

  9. So is it Paul’s identification that Maik’s ‘passing through the lines’ that’s likely to get the young German into a pole defensive position ?

Or, has his ‘personality’ developed enough over the last few weeks for BR to give him a starting guernsey ?

Alternatively, with Cam and Stephen crocked and Nat on a one-way, X2 ticket to Liverpool is Maik the preferred of just x2 last men standing ?

Three points a must – really need to keep the winning run going, even with a break after the game.

Mid or even low-90s points will require a good, consistent run right through to the end of the season.

Might consider giving Ralston a start. Hopefully see a bit more of Abada and maybe Hatate.

Could be a tricky game but if we can get ahead in the first twenty it could be fairly comfortable. Need to get the tempo right from the beginning though.

  14. Quadbhoy – Fair point.

But I think it 2 differing situations.

1 is an employee of another club invited to play at our stadia so in my opinion our c.ub should look to keep supporters safe as they do in refusing tickets for ipox (for safety reasons).

The other is on a differing scale and of course you should report to police but ultimately the club are responsible for said attacker having a ticket and would also take appropriate action by banning him.

So either way the club have a responsibility to keep paying customers safe.

“Rangers are complaining to the SFA, they want the VAR audio from Willie Collum, who was on VAR with Nick Walsh refereeing. They want the audio of the conversation.

But the way they’ve actually gone about this, I’m surprised myself. There may be other clubs out there who are similarly astonished and similarly concerned at the non award of penalties against Rangers over the last couple of seasons. I think it’s 72, 73 games – two years – since there was last a penalty awarded against Rangers. That’s astonishing.

Do not blame Willie Collum for your deficiencies, Rangers. Fact of the matter is, had they a centre forward who could put his boots on the right feet, they may have actually ended up winning the game.

Todd Cantwell hasn’t turned up for a meaningful Celtic Rangers game since he’s been at the club. So if you’re looking for someone to blame, Rangers, blame your own players.

Do not blame Willie Collum because essentially, they came to the right decision, however they did it.”

It is a pity that Paul 67 is perceived as a conduit to PL as it colours the perception of Paul’s blogs.

If he is then the State of Celtic blog risks being viewed as propaganda and an attempt at expectation management.

If that link does not exist then Paul’s thoughts carry no more authority than any other blogs.

I read the latest as expectation management but if it is, why is it not coming from Celtic?

A strategy page on the Celtic site that any blogger can pick up from might do a Heineken as in reaching the part other beers do not.

    ……………….

You appear to be taking aim at me for Posing about Baloguns behaviour.

Firstly, I was NOT having any ” CHEAP” Digs at the suits at Celtic.

Secondly, IF a Celtic supporter at the actual game WAS spat on, but REFUSES to make any official complaint about it, then that is THEIR CHOICE ?

Thirdly, It MIGHT be the case that Balogun FAILED to spit on anyone, hence why it appears that NO Official complaint has been made ?

Why should someone like me ( who could NOT attend the match ) be obliged to report this ” Incident”, when the MEDIA and The POLICE have CLEAR VIDEO EVIDENCE available to them ?

I AGREE with DAVID66 that Celtic FC SHOULD be asking the SFA/SPFL and the Police about this, and that SHOULD be the avenue that Celtic FC go down as it occurred within Celtic Park.

IF I remember correctly, when EL DIOUF spat on a Celtic supporter, the individual supporter himself made a complaint to the Police, and I would assume with the FULL SUPPORT of Celtic FC….and CLEAR VIDEO EVIDENCE was also available ?

RE VIDEO EVIDENCE……IF I am in a Pub, and someone tries to break into my house when I am OUT, and is CAUGHT on camera, I will assume that the Police WILL look at any video evidence that I give them, and identify and charge the person(s) involved…….WHY NOT in this case ?

IF I remember correctly, when DUNCAN FERGUSON head butted JOCK MacSTAY at Ipox, the Police did NOT require any Raith Rovers supporter to make an official complaint about the assault.

WHY would the Police require any Celtic supporter to make a complaint against Balogun, when there is Video Evidence available ?

  22. DAVID66 on 2ND JANUARY 2024 1:25 PM

“the point I am making is our board must know what is going on but sit and say nothing”

Two big assumptions there. You can remove one, possibly two by being proactive if you have genuine concern for supporter safety and 5 minutes to spare to reach out. Less time than we’ve probably spent chatting here :)

“if they are doing/saying something let our supporters know, send an email to every season ticket holder, share holder telling us what is being done.”

I’d like more comms from the club on strategy, SFA relations/queries/etc also and occasionally they do make bits known but not enough for my liking either.

“Anyway onto today’s game, we go again and get 3 points and I hope you enjoy the game.”

Indeed, crap place to go. Here’s hoping we keep the recent attitude seen at Dens and not from the Motherwell / Hearts games and get the win. After the high of the last win there is always more risk imo.

    ………..

IF Balogun HAD spat on a Celtic PLAYER and there was CLEAR VIDEO EVIDENCE of this available….Do YOU honestly think that Celtic FC ( or the SUITS that you mention ) would sit back and INSIST that THE AFFECTED Celtic Player make an official complaint to the Police…. BEFORE Celtic FC could become involved ?

OR, Do you think that Celtic FC would act WITHOUT the Celtic Player making an official complaint, and perhaps BASE any decision on what to do, BASED entirely on the REF Report and/or VIDEO EVIDENCE may show ?

“WHY would the Police require any Celtic supporter to make a complaint against Balogun, when there is Video Evidence available ?”

Can I repeat Parkheadcumsalford’s request to do something about the navigation on CQN?

The idea of placing an advert between moving from one page to another is irksome if doing so on a PC/Laptop.

On a mobile all you see is the white background to the advert and have to move around the page to find the “X” to get past it and I only found that by searching for it.

Copy paste is a bit of a nightmare on a mobile. It is bad enough highlighting the area to copy but when the option to copy arrives the function that allows the copy to be done takes its time to appear. That might not be solvable but you might find a way to let contributors know eg a tips page?

As I type a bloody advert drops down! Is this reflective of the profit motivation that plays a large part in Celtic’s recruitment policy?

Finally when I’m on a roll/rant I take objection to this in The State of Celtic blog

“You can see the intellectual sneering in some who have left grubby matters like their football team behind. they have no idea what they have lost.

It is unbecoming at best and to view posts with some thought behind them as sneering is insulting.

Is wanting some honesty from Celtic more important than who is signed?

The latter keeps the blog busy and takes up most of the blogs but to dismiss reasoned and reasonable posts as intellectual sneering is a disservice to your blog and all supporters who make connections between the strategy and how that influences the standard of player we do sign.

Finally finally, whilst that loving feeling for Celtic may have diminished a bit, the gain in self respect as a result of the veil being pulled back, is more than enough compensation.

There are as many ways to love Celtic as to love a child growing up and making mistakes on the way is part of that growing if lessons are learned as a result.

  26. To be fair to Nat Philips he, for the most part, did try to make those type of forward passes, and he did help create a goal or two. Not so easy against two lines of five mind you. Saints result was a bit of a surprise given their recent results, but they did look back to something close to their earlier season form. So, not an easy game to finish off the ol’ Yuletide season. The incentive still has to be there though, win tonight and, with the Scottish Cup up next we only have one more SPL game in January, still top as we head towards the Year of the Dragon.

  27. QUADBHOY on 2ND JANUARY 2024 1:05 PM

    ……………

In my view, Celtic FC ( Given the CLEAR VIDEO EVIDENCE available ), SHOULD take this particular matter OUT of the hands of any individual Celtic supporter, and ask questions of The Police Match Commander, the SFA/SPFL, whilst at the same time PROVIDE any video evidence when asking those questions.

Celtic FC could ALSO ask any of their STEWARDS if they witnessed Baloguns actions ? If Celtic FC have NOT asked any Stewards if they witnessed this incident, then that is a dereliction of duty by Celtic FC ?

After all, I MUST ASSUME that if I caused trouble within Celtic Park, and was thrown out by any Celtic Steward, and Celtic FC were “investigating” the incident, surely they WOULD ask any Steward for possible evidence of my wrong doing, before taking my season book from me ?
