Neil and players deserve our trust

220

Celtic notched up their 13th straight win in domestic competition against St Mirren yesterday.  That period included two wins against Lazio and a meaningless defeat to Cluj in the Europa League.  After losing to Livingston on 6 October, we were two points off the pace at the top of the table.  Now we are two points clear and have the League Cup back for the fourth season in succession.

Celtic have played two games every week since July apart from international breaks, when most Celtic players are in action for their nations.  Their return in this period has been nothing short of exceptional.  Were it not for a rush of blood to the head by Ryan Christie in Livingston and some penalty blindness at Easter Road, the question right now would be “Can anyone take a point off Celtic this season?”

Work still needs to be done to ensure we enter the winter break top of the table, but this is a script Neil Lennon and his players know well.  They deserve our trust.

We clearly do need to sign a winger. Of the 7, two are on loan and will leave in the summer and one is out of contract

They’ll be gone in the summer, which is when you replace them.

Replace them when they’re still here and we’ll end up with an outfield team of wingers.

Recently you used Liverpool as an example of a team who should be used as an example when it comes to squad management and the old immeasurable “building from a position of strength,” because they bought a winger

How big was their squad at the end of the season in which they won the champions league and we’re a baws hair away from wining the prem, and how many players did they sign in the summer? What was their net transfer spend? And most importantly, apparently, how many wingers did they have in their squad before they picked up the new signing for a small fee for them?

We need players who can contribute now. It’s a tight league with a lot of points to play for. We have a potential treble in play and a very good chance to make the last 16 of the Europa League.

We also have circa £40m in the bank.

  4. Just watched the ‘official’ highlights on the SPFL YouTube channel the French Eddy goal which was wrongly flagged offside by the Hun with the flag was not included therefore ‘officially’ it did not happen.

    Nothing to see here Timmy

There it is. We’ve got the money so let’s have eight wingers. Not because we need it, but because we can.

It’ll be the same story next season, probably worse, the pressure on winning the ten will bring even greater anxiety.

We’ve had an incredible start to the season, our squad has been fantastic so far.

“There it is. We’ve got the money so let’s have eight wingers. Not because we need it, but because we can.”

Not sure how you can read my comments and come away with this statement. My point is that we do need another winger as NL clearly only trusts three wingers at the club and given the amount of games we play/our favoured formation, we need at least two wingers competing for each position. At present, we don’t have that. Neil would rather play Christie as a winger than play the other wingers on our books.

“We’ve had an incredible start to the season, our squad has been fantastic so far.”

The first part of the sentence is correct, the second part isn’t. We have relied on one striker to date. LG, Bayo and Morgan have contributed very little this year- how many goals do they have between them in the first half of the season? Again, a striker is imperative in January.

How have we done this season when we haven’t had two of ME, JF and in the starting line up?

Given how poorly we played against them at Hampden, evidence does suggest a need for decent back up for Eddie

Also, given that we have won every meaningful game (iirc) except for a draw with Hibs when we’ve had MJ and ME out injured or on the bench I’d argue the need for a fourth choice winger isn’t great.

We’re also forgetting Frimpong who Lenny evidently “trusts” to do a job.

No more filler for me please.

  10. When is a large squad not a large squad ?

When they don’t contribute of course.

    HH.

  11. Are Sevco fans – -whose team is five points behind us — as critical of their team as many Celtic fans are of ours?

I don`t believe they are but not because they are better supporters of their team. No, I believe it is because the MSSM is very positive about THEIR team and they reflect that in their support.

Not, I accept, a solid foundation for said positivity but it is surely a benefit to a team if they feel that their fans believe in them. I would like to see more of that in comments about Celtic. The Feel Good factor, I am sure, really does have an effect.

We’re screwed. The Rangers are rampant and the in form team this decade. Our aged squad will meet their comeuppance. Good luck bhoys and take your beating well. Oh and merry Christmas , fugg the hunlovingmeejia

  13. Chris Jack believes Gerrard and Lennon will be happy with a point on Sunday which is plainly nonsense. Gerrard would take a point now but no way is anyone at Celtic going to settle for anything other than 3 points.

  14. We would all want a leaner squad with less dead wood, but I think it’s difficult to achieve, given the amount of games and injuries.

While walking the dug couldn’t miss the opportunity to take the pish out of Hertz fans. 😁😱👍

Was also informed that there are 36 players in Hertz’s squad, aye but nearly all pish I replied👏👏👏

  16. I’VEHADTOCHANGEMYMIND

To highlight such an issue, since Levein came back as director of football in 2014, there have been 26 (TWENTY SIX) players to have played left-back for the club.

    Mental.

  17. What would be a great help to the team on Sunday is the GREEN BRIGADE giving it laldy for the full 90 minutes. OK, they may let off too many fireworks now and again but for games like the one on Sunday they can be the best supporters in world football. I vividly remember the ‘four horsemen of the apocalypse’ show they put on when the huns came to visit just before they were LIQUIDATED, that was fantastic, Top Marks.

  18. Watched Liverpool last night, in all honesty one of the best teams I’ve ever seen. Van Dijk, if he can stay at his current level for another year of two, will go down in history as one of the greatest ever defenders.

  19. Just a thought, if the huns had been voted back in to the top flight after they were LIQUIDATED (as the clubs were encouraged to vote by the SFA / SPFL) they would have become the first football club in world history to have been LIQUIDATED and just carried on as if nothing at all had happened. How much would that have re-enforced the WATP myth,

What a shower, they actually thought they were going to get clean away with it. Well I suppose if you were to take a history lesson from any of the scribes still working in Scottish Football you would conclude that they did get clean away with it. We really need to beat them up badly on Sunday.

How do you think we would fair against Liverpool? Better than a 4 zip defeat?

  21. weebobbycollins on

David 17…and Alexander-Arnold is heading to the very top alongside Van Dijk. Smashing player!

  22. Re Sunday, i agree with Paul. Neil, John Kennedy and Damien Duff deserve our good faith. We have to believe they are seeing things clearly and know what they are doing. Come Sunday at noon they will have an army behind them. We should be confident.

  23. WEEBOBBYCOLLINS on 27TH DECEMBER 2019 5:28 PM

Indeed, i wish Liverpool nothing but good fortune. A city that deserves everything that comes to them.

I can only say i am glad we will not play them anytime soon.

  25. Liverpool’s front three are immense, very hard working, even though Sallah gets most of the praise Saido Mane is a terrific striker, just hope they don’t try and add Odsonne to their squad come the summer :-)
