Callum McGregor (25) burst into our consciousness as a winger under Ronny Deila but has found his true calling as a deep-lying playmaker this season. From there he establishes the pace at which Celtic play.
I previously heard Kieran Tierney say he enjoys full back better than the left-mid position he played as a youth, as he can see the game develop more from there. The same is true of Callum, who is crucial to Celtic’s performances.
The key aspect he has is the ability to send and receive passes drilled to feet with pace. Success in the modern game is increasingly about how fast a pass you can reliably control or make. That close, intimate, control, Callum has permits him to play at the very highest level.
I am delighted he has signed a new contract, securing him until 2023.
Having secured the result at halftime, Celtic strolled the second half, no doubt with an eye on conserving energy in this most draining of months. Injury to Odsonne Edouard was as predictable as it is regretful, but what a performance from Mikey Johnston. I am sure he will not become a striker, but the lad has talent. Delighted also for Anthony Ralston, who marked his return to the team with the opening goal.

In principle we should not be looking beyond the 3 points on Saturday. I do however agree with what you’re saying and also looking at the three matches after the break, which are all at home to mediocre opposition, we have an opportunity to take control of the League over the next half dozen matches.

CELTIC chief executive Peter Lawwell is about to receive a bumper £2.3m Christmas bonus for his performance in running the club for the past two years.
The 59-year-old who succeeded Ian McLeod as chief executive 14 years ago, is due to receive the sum on New Year’s Eve.

Club chairman Ian Bankier (above), 65, has seen his salary rise by 60% in a year from £50,000 to £80,000.
Financial director Christopher MacKay, 42, whose salary package rose from £234,467 to £246,206, is also due to get a further £100,000 by way of two years in another long term performance plan.
Non-executive director Sharon Brown, 48, who is chairman of the club’s audit committee, who arrived at the club halfway through the financial year to June, 2017 and received £14,126 remuneration is now receiving £30,360 for the full year.
The club plc’s full annual report which highlights a pre-tax profit of £17.3m – nearly double the previous year – states that its remuneration committee takes account of financial packages with other comparable companies and sectors, particularly large football clubs.
In explaining its boardroom rewards policy, Celtic plc secretary Michael Nicholson said: “The main objective of the company’s remuneration policy remains to attract, retain and motivate experienced and capable individuals who will make a significant contribution to the long term success of the group whilst, taking account of the marketplace.
“Specific corporate and personal objectives are used for executive directors and certain senior executives. A similar appraisal system is also applied to most regular employees throughout the group.”
Mr Nicholson added: “Given the importance of the chief executive to the consistent and successful performance of the company, the board determined that the chief executive shall participate in the LTPIP, the purpose of which is to link the performance of the chief executive to performance targets which have the objective of improving company performance, the football performance of Celtic FC and generating shareholder value.”
The Parkhead club’s also showed year-on-year increase in overall group revenue from £90.6m to a record £101.6m.
Meanwhile, the total wage bill, including player pay, rose by 13% in the year from £52.2m to £59.3m, having increased by 41 per cent the previous year.
Mr Lawwell in his review said the club object was to “invest everything we can into the football operation without putting the club at risk”.
Even though there was “disappointment” at not qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League this year, he said “we have the financial reserves to rely upon as we continue to look to the future with ambition and optimism”.

Home made soup!!
Many years ago when I was young apprentice engineer we had an old helper who always spoke about having ” a lovely plate of remand soup”, This intrigued me until I was given the explanation ” soup kept overnight”. Old hands will know but being on remand was being kept in the cells overnight before going to court. Still a lovely plate of 2nd day soup.
Bobby Murdoch was like a metronome.
He made the game of football look easy.
Easy enough that we all thought we could play the game at the highest level.
In defence he could instinctively find wee Jinky with an outlet pass to turn the attack around.
He was deceptively strong in the tackle and quickly dispatch a seemingly impossible pass to a team mate.
Despite effusive praise from the likes of Helenio Herrera, Bobby and Jack Charlton and the inimitable Hugh McIlvaney, he didn’t impress the SFA who only awarded him a dozen or so caps.
I spent some time in Middlesbrough in a computer meeting in the late 80s, and spent much of the time discussing Bobby’s impact with a bunch of Borough fans who were unstinting in his praise.
The man with the curled up winkle pickers is a true Celtic legend.
So that’s why there was no John McGinn.
Cheated trophies remain unstripped, whilst the architect’s of the Old Firm £49 deceit, get fatter.

Talking of soup ( earlier), a wee cafe on Springfield Road ( Near the London Road traffic lights and opposite the pub and William Hill) sells a smashing, home made soup. Ideal pre and post game at this time of the year.
It is not a classy joint but it has a feel of the old Glasgow about it.

This international thingy where players are going to play for their country rather than who pays their wages is a pain in the erse.
TR is the classic, he has been injured, now training, BR rests him to keep him for the games on 26th and 29th and lo and behold he is going away to play for Australia… Frustrating as feck.
I know players want to play for their country’s, I just hope we can come to a compromise.
