No one wanted Celtic from Pot 4

1078

Let’s be honest with each other, there’s a bit of a leap between our European performances in recent seasons and the standards of Champions League football. My expectations for this season’s tournament hasn’t seen me check out accommodation options in Cardiff in May.

With that in mind, if we’re going to fall short, let’s do it against genuine quality opposition, some of the best players and tactically organised teams in the business. Barcelona, Manchester City (think Pep, but with more money) and Borussia Monchengladbach will bring this to Glasgow over the next few months.

Over our 15 year Champions League lifespan, Celtic surprise on the upside more often against better teams than against relative minnows. The biggest disappointments came in Scandinavia, not Iberia.

When the group stage finishes in December, we will faced enormous challenges. Players will have stretched themselves to lengths they didn’t know existed. What we know for sure, is that none of the other three teams in our group will have wanted Celtic from Pot 4. This is a hard draw for everyone.

Huge game tomorrow. Anything less than 100% and we’ll drop points. Enjoy it.

  1. Sutton being very clever. Not argumentative. Agreeing with Craigan’s desperate claim that Barry McKay should have had a penalty. No need to disagree. The Huns didn’t get it and Rangers didn’t win.

Oh, oh Suttie now slaughtering Harner for having a reputation as a diver and saying he should be booked.

  2. With the likes of Roberts,Dembele,Sinclair,Forrest/

,Griffiths going up against The Rangers, there will be good times ahead when we engage with them – bring it on.

    Evening,

Calling all NYC Tims. Going to be in your city for the ICT game. My question is Jack Dempsey’s or Parlour Bar?

    Cheers in advance.

    TGSC,

    Sailing On….

  4. Sutton asked, will Celtic beat rangers

    ‘Yes’

    Asked why.

    ‘Rangers central defenders are horrendous’

The look on Rae on Craigan’s face was priceless

  5. 67Heaven .. CHALLENGING THE LIE ..I am wee Oscar...... Ipox belongs to the creditors on

Well, looks as though the little desperate tactic giving sevco what they thought was an easy start to the season has spectacularly backfired on them ….. It was hoped they would gel by now but, by all accounts, they are getting worse …any more of this and I might not be able to resist watching their shoite displays …..the journos must be bricking themselves. ….. You caonly cover up to a certain degree …..hahahahahahaha

  6. Are Celtic favourites for the 10th September game?

    Sutty: YES!!

    Cause Huns CBs are horrendous!!

On you go – Big Mhan!

  7. Well done, Killie. They dominated until Sevco goal , brought about by needless foul just outside the box. Crazy tackle on Barton then reduced them to 10 men. Thought ,overall, ref was fair. Barton slow to get back for Killie gol, and Sevco weak in central defence.

  8. Nice to see the Huns struggling.

Not so nice to see some so called Celtic fans looking forward to the racism.

  9. Sutton is a breath of fresh air, even when he is critical of us – he tells it like it is – takes no prisoners and seems unafraid – let’s welcome that – it’s rare in Scotland where everyone wants to waffle to stay in the ‘magic circle’

Just logged on for a wee lurk, what do you think of the bhoys with a couple of additions from Brendan making the CL group stages ?

    Enjoy the good times :-)

  11. Gftb was delighted we qualified. We need to use the money to build a strong team, but…..,,,

Uch you don’t need me to tell you what the board will do. After all we must have a competitive league.

Nearly as much as Uefa are giving the Scottish clubs that aren’t Europe!!!! :D

  13. I saw bits of the second half of killie game. Just saw replay of killie goal….. Oh my good god …… Boyd outpaced the two centre halfs. My aching sides!! And funnier still was the co commentator (Rae I think) pointing out that Hill needs to learn not to give players a two yard start!!! He’s 38 years old! He’s played hundreds of games at centre half…… You could not make this up!!!!

Miller commented that their aim was to be top when they visited Paradise for the 1st time.

Looks like it was a plan to gain some kind of momentum but its already going horribly wrong for them.

Reminds me of an old motor that i had.

An Escort and it looked ok as such(imo)but it was only a 1.4. It was ok about town, but when i went on the motorway(especially that wee stretch uphill from Castlecary towards Cumbernauld id pull out with the best of intentions to overtake but would find that there was nothing there……absolutely nae oooomph……and id drive along beside what i was trying to overtake for what seemed like an eternity with the foot to the floor and the heed stuck over the top of the steering wheel almost squashed against the windscreen in a supreme effort to will my wee baby on, before needing to drop back in behind it again because she just didnae have the guts and the ones that did would go flying past.

We are gonna go flyin past them tomorrow despite them being shiny and new……welcome to the fast lane Sevco 1.4 :)

  15. Spot on Neg, we sure did. I was thrilled and I know you were too. Now wouldn’t it be great if we beat the Sheep tomorrow & even better if we put on a show. I’m looking forward to it, lets stick together & cheer on the ‘tic.

Great to read Sutton’s comments. This new mob have struggled in every game and can consider themselves lucky to have the points they do.

One thing I took from last nights “Scotland’s Game” programme is that the only time John Brown doesn’t speak from the side if his mouth is when he’s signing:” F@%k the pope and the Vatican.”

  17. Hopefully it will dawn on everyone in Scottish football that the main event domestically now is Celtic v Aberdeen and possibly Celtic v Hearts.

Tomorrow is domestically a huge game for us.

There may be some Celtic supporters who haven’t realised that yet. But they will.

  18. Well, Follow Follow is in meltdown! They admit they canna win the league; they are predicting a mauling at Celtic Park; lucky if they finish 3rd; the Magic Hat disnae huv a clue; Clint Hill is a bombscare and Kiernan is worse.

Friday fitba’ is magic! (But hatless).

  19. Sutton will be hard to bully hence his honest comments, Hope BT don’t pull the carpet out from under him.

Wee win the morra and Champs tickets. Magic weekend.

Also delighted, just wondered what you thought of the majority of last seasons team getting there as I think you were a bit dismissive a few weeks back, but like all of us Celtic fans you canny please all the fans all of the time, am just glad the board got BR in, surely the board have balanced the books a wee bit……. Roll on the morra when BR makes his league debut at Celtic Park !

  22. By the way – all the best to stefan at Fulham. He was a trier and he dug us out of a few holes in his first season. Hopefully he will thrive in less pressured surroundings.

    Good luck SJ
