No one wanted Celtic from Pot 4

1078

Let’s be honest with each other, there’s a bit of a leap between our European performances in recent seasons and the standards of Champions League football. My expectations for this season’s tournament hasn’t seen me check out accommodation options in Cardiff in May.

With that in mind, if we’re going to fall short, let’s do it against genuine quality opposition, some of the best players and tactically organised teams in the business. Barcelona, Manchester City (think Pep, but with more money) and Borussia Monchengladbach will bring this to Glasgow over the next few months.

Over our 15 year Champions League lifespan, Celtic surprise on the upside more often against better teams than against relative minnows. The biggest disappointments came in Scandinavia, not Iberia.

When the group stage finishes in December, we will faced enormous challenges. Players will have stretched themselves to lengths they didn’t know existed. What we know for sure, is that none of the other three teams in our group will have wanted Celtic from Pot 4. This is a hard draw for everyone.

Huge game tomorrow. Anything less than 100% and we’ll drop points. Enjoy it.

Delighted here in Killie at that result. Sevco are one dimensional, lacking pace and can only play one way. They also have too many similar players. They will struggle to make the top six. Oh how we laughed.

  2. Until tonight , hadn’t seen much of Sevco since the semi.

Looked very poor, even against 10 men.

A a wonder strike or they would have taken nothing from the game, even with the added 10 minutes against the 10 men.

  3. Didn’t watch that, but gobsmacked at all the time added on at the end of both halfs.

Cannot recall so much time being added on.

Desperate times call for desperate measures by the sound of it!

  4. Firstly

That was a really entertaining 100 mins (45+5 x2) of football. A point each seems about right. Killie were the better team until James Tavernier beauty of a free-kick levelled matters. But once Greg Taylor was sent off it was one-way traffic and Rangers had several chances to win it.

So if we beat the Sheep tomorrow , we will be 1 point ahead with a game in hand after also playing Hearts and St Johnstone away – and they’ve played the powerhouses of Hamilton, Dundee, Motherwell and Kilmarnock.

Good fixture list set up by ‘same club’ Dungcaster and the SPFL !

  9. The Huns were given a run of easy games to start with, They have drawn two, had an injury time winner in another and were the beneficiaries of an honest mistake by Thompson in the 4th which helped them to hang on for a 2-1 win. They are no very good, They haven’t played one decent team yet. Hertz & Dons will be our main challengers.

Not sure what all the laughing at Sevco is all about. They are well on course for their target of 55 points.

  13. Right, enough about that mob. Team for tomorrow:

    Gordon

    Lustig Toure Svietchenko Tierney

    Forrest Brown Rogic McGregor Sinclair

    Griffiths

    Dembele to come on after 55 mins;

    Roberts after 65 mins.

    Celtic 4 Aberdeen 1.

  14. killie best of first half , sevco best of second half and looked much fitter than killie . Playing 10 men helps and a couple of 50/50 challenges around the box went in their favor. Will be interesting to watch Clansy reffing a celtic game.

I thought sevco looked pretty good going forward – they always seemed to get a shot away and are pacey on the wings. Not great but certainly not as bad a some make out. That pitch is awful to play on and 1-1 is not a bad point!

Quite agree. Also , the more people exaggerate how bad their standard is, the more angry they will be if Sevco finish in the top three or four.
