Perhaps Airdrie United could rebrand as Rangers United?

1122

I’ve spoken to a few Rangers fans over recent months, the base line of acceptability has been redrawn many times.  If you read back on what was presented as reality on 13 February, when Craig Whyte announced that while it was “business as usual” he applied to the court for a 10 day period to appoint an administrator.

Back then, administration was abhorrent, but suggestions of liquidation were regarded as outrageous.  On 22 February Celtic Quick News asked questions about Improper Registration of Football players, was it possible that Rangers results would have to be re-written as 3-0 defeats for a decade or more?

In March Rangers director (still, I believe) Dave King sent out a new baseline, liquidation was inevitable but there was no question that titles would be taken off Rangers.  Even this concession to liquidation was disputed by the Blue Knight and Duff and Phelps.  Publicly, both still hold to this line, although Duff and Phelps use some creative ideas to get there.

Most now know that liquidation is inevitable.  A few understand that the SPL inquiry into player registration is likely to result in five or more league titles being reallocated to Celtic, but I don’t hear anyone accepting the reality of the situation.

Rangers don’t have a buyer, primarily as the administrators don’t have a stadium they can sell.  Even if they try to remain in administration for next season, Ticketus own the majority of their income.  It will cost countless millions to pull a deal together, much more than the £11.2m Bill Miller considered putting on the table, and no one is coming up with that kind of money.

In the unlikely event these problems are resolved, whatever club emerged would have to deal with the fallout from players refusing to join a Newco and becoming free agents, football fines debts from Oldco, SFA penalties, Newco penalties if preferential treatment is provided in order to get them into a higher league, and SPL penalties for Improper Registration of Players.

There are two simple solutions.  Form a new club, ask to share Firhill or Love St – or better still, rent Cathkin Park (reset ambition for Rangers as the new Third Lanark), and apply for entry to the Scottish Football League.  Alternatively, co-opt a lower league club, maybe Airdrie United could help, rename it and spend however many years as it takes trying to acquire whatever parts of Ibrox survives liquidation.

This is a controlled and predictable way forward, a concept not delivered by Duff and Phelps, totally in the control of whoever wants to harvest fallout from the demise of the Rangers brand.

  1. Is anyone else as confused as i am with regards to the hoped for ‘demise’ of Rangers? Yesterday we had “ This is a dead football club’ with little hope of their being saved now we have Craigy ‘allegedly’ doing a deal with a consortium and even Alex T saying that a CVA may be a potential possibility. All that is certain is that none of us have a clue what is going to happen. An awful lot of conjecture and wishful thinking but I’d say the chances are they will survive and in a very few seasons will be as strong as ever.

Just get on with it CSC

Lenny’s comments were hardly a ringing endorsement for the Huns.

Why would he come out and say he would be happy to see them die? He’s had enough grief from them to last a lifetime.

  3. Quick question, but have rangers submitted audited accounts yet for period ending 30/06/2011?

    Regards the shares.

I believe the trading of shares was still suspended on the PLUS market but rangers could withdraw its listing after 06/05/2012.

However, does the company not have to be listed somewhere in order for there to be a market in which to trade the shares?

At what point do next year’s fixtures need to be released?

Presumably this impacts on season ticket sales, price of season tickets and TV scheduling to name but a few critical business issues?

Surely the SPL can only wait do long before just going ahead without the Huns?

Same is true of lower division fixtures?

Surely the clubs need to just get on with it. As much as it all amuses me it is getting ridiculous. The whole of next season is now under threat.

Presumably there is also some link

Between fixtures within Scotland and also European competition fixtures…

Time to make the right decision and progress on the basis of no RFC.

I posted yesterday that as a result of a parent’s complaint the TT were not to wear celtic tops or sing celtic songs, this was an edict from the director’s office, today I have heard of one school where the visit hass been cancelled as a result, you will see if you Youtube some of the school visit films have been taken down, as I said, Only In Glasgow!

However in another statement the council were pleased to announce further and continued OO marches complete with all regalia etc through the streets of glasgow..welcome to the best wee bigoted country in the world!

  13. Under all this general hilarity, there appears to be one very serious question that has not been addressed: What will happen to the children?? What will happen to poor little Ibroxia?? Will she become Lidlia or Tescoia or perhaps, Asdaia……??? Will she be part of the liquidation process, or is she part of the CVA???

Yup none of us have a clue but rather than bet a buyer does not turn we could at least consider the conditions that would a) satisfy integrity, b) if some compromise is necessary what conditions would we like to see placed on a Newco?

If you read the post on p1or 2, you will see that Doncaster is paving the to allow a Newco back into the SPL and will try to get the conditions down to a level that will not discourage a buyer.

Whilst Celtic might not stop a vote in favour the must to satisfy integrity insist on punishments that do not reward a debt fee Rangers and tackle the misgovernance that allowed Rangers to prosper even in administration/liquidation

Changes to club licensing that results in suspension if a club fails criteria is one ,tight control on club borrowing is another, intoduction of a professional referee service and fit and proper person rules that have declared up front punishments are others.

If we cannot stop the bassas getting in we can at leasy make sure they are weak financially and muzzled by improvements in governance.

Supporters no longer trust the SPL or SFA and uefa look like a chocolate teapot and if nothing is done to address this the game is a downhill bogey

I would suspect it puts Kennedy back in the running for Ibrox. Whyte needs to sell some assets and the stadium is the best asset he has. Training ground will possibly go to a property developer. Any other assets that can be broken off and sold will be too.

It’s almost make or break time.

The administrators have really played a blinder!

The damage done by cw is being rolled back.

Ticketus will know their only chance of getting their money back is a deal with whoever takes over.

In return for pressuring cw they get a deal.

Ibrox might have a book value of £109m. What is it actually worth?

Strikes me that particular area of Glasgow is saturated with flats office accommodation etc.

Would Craig Whyte recoup £27m to pay tickets through the sale of Ibrox?
