Protecting Celtic from inappropriate behaviour

157

After all the talk about derby games without away fans taking an edge away, that scenario seems more attractive.  With the indiscipline that Newco brought to the recent Women’s and B squad games against their Celtic equivalents, it is fortuitous that there will be no away fans at Celtic Park on Saturday.

Hopefully the expected lack of an edge will assist visitors who represent their club to refrain from the excesses which have followed them when facing green and white hoops.  These incidents have real life consequences and not only for their immediate victims.  What is permitted at the top of the club is seen as an example by those further down the food chain.

Celtic staff and players at all levels have a right to be protected from any sustained inappropriate behaviour.

  1. TURKEYBHOY on 4TH APRIL 2023 10:43 AM

In good old Glasgow Derby parlance,I will be “Jetting in”on Friday night and taking a Hospitality invite for the game on Saturday. Then back into Merchant City for post match celebrations. Two weeks in sunny Glasgo to follow ,the only downside.Joking.Nearly 5 years since the last time.Mostly due to Covid.Listening to the experts on here, don’t know what all the panic was about.Pity I won’t be seeing 3 good friends who died from it.

Maybe get a chance to meet up with a few of the Shipwrecks hopefully.

    …………………

Maybe you can meet up with myself and maybe one or two others sometime next Week in the SHIPBANK Pub…or somewhere else if you prefer ?

Just let me know on here TURKEYBHOY……and HOPEFULLY we are celebrating a great Celtic Victory for a number of Days….or in BRRBs case…..a few WEEKS ?

    LOL

    HH Mate.

Flightradar is a great site and an absolute boon for owners during transitions between operators – don’t want to pay no steenking taxes!!!!

Those Covid jabs were indeed deadly.

It reminded me of the US Army in Vietnam where they would burn the villages they captured to the ground in order to ‘save’ them.

  4. Churchill was having dinner with Major-General Sir Bindon Blood when “a bullet hummed by over head.” The incident strengthened Churchill’s view that the Mohmands, a local Pashtun tribe, needed to be dealt with. As he told Barnes: “After today we begin to burn villages. Every one. And all who resist will be killed without quarter. The Mohmands need a lesson, and there is no doubt we are a very cruel people.”

  5. Seems Walsh is the referee favourite at the moment . Watch the nonsense from him on Saturday when he is out of range , if he isn’t in charge of our games he is on var . A cheat of the highest order .

  6. Lifelong Celtic supporter Brendan MacFarlane joins Man City as the head scout for France .

Brendan is a lurker on CQN .,as are his father and uncles.

He is a former season ticket holder ,before he moved to France

He is a former pupil of St Andrews ,High School in Kirkcaldy ,Fife.

He hails from the small Fife fishing village of East Wemyss.

He was responsible for the amazing success that Brentford enjoyed recruiting and selling unknown prospects playing in the lower leagues in France .

His work for Brentford was recognised by Toulouse ,and he was snapped up by them .

His shrewd recruitment helped Toulouse gain promotion to Ligue one ,and remain there this season.

Manchester City have now recruited the most knowledgeable scout in of domestic French football.

I’m sure that all Tim’s will wish Brendan well.

Just a pity that his beloved Celtic were so unaware of his talents.

    TT

  7. Looking forward to Saturday. Little pressure on us going into this and an opportunity to heap it all on Beale before Hampden.

Just play the game Celts and our football will eventually win out.

  8. Tim Malone Will Tell on

    TINYTIM

I have been watching Brentford for a few years and wondered why their talent stream from France had dried up over the last couple of seasons – your email tells me all I need to know.

I would think that Bryan Mbeumo would be one of Brendan MacFralands ‘finds’? – an extremely talented player that Brentford acquired for buttons (relatively speaking).

  9. Tinytim,

has Brendan himself made celtic aware of who he is and what he does ?

I would find it incredible if he is not known of.

  10. Tim Malone will tell

He was responsible the signing of Mbeuno and Maupay.

Apologies for the reference to a non existent email – obviously I was referring to your post.

That’s the trouble when you try to work and read CQN simultaneously – particularly once you reach a certain age :-)

I had a quick google re Brendan MacFarlane and can see that he was also responsible for Brentford signing Benrahma and Maupay – pretty impressive.

  12. Saint Stivs

I don’t know to what extent Celtic were aware of Brendan’s talents and knowledge .

I do know that Man United were aware .

I think that’s part of why Man City swooped.

Ironically for many years ,the Man City Scout for Scotland was based in Glenrothes ,Fife.

His name was Mr Ferguson .

He had a room full of cabinets with paper folders and files on Scottish youth players ,which stretched back years .

He once showed me all the files .

Two names jumped out at me .

Ross Wallace and Charlie Adam .

The last time I spoke to him was at Tynecastle .

The day we won the league 5-0 .

He was there to watch Paddy Roberts ,as he was still a City player.

Paddy scored a raker on the day and provided 2 assists for Scotty Sinclaire.

Walking out the stadium with him ,asked .

“ Well what did you think of Paddy?”

He said that he would never play a first team match for city in the EPL .

That he didn’t do enough off the ball .

He got me tickets for the CL tie in Manchester ,v city.

When Paddy scored ,I instantly thought of him .

At that time he said there wasn’t a player in the whole of Scotland that was good enough to get in the city first team .

But that he also was on the lookout for the other city group teams in NYC ,Melbourne and Japan .

I don’t know of he is still living .

I lost touch with him when I sold my business.

  13. Turkeybhoy – Enjoy your trip. I am doing similar to yourself for the game Saturday. Fly in overnight Thursday, catch up with family and sleep Friday then hospitality for the game Saturday, then on to Merchant City. Not sure of my seating yet in the ground, but somewhere in Club67. Unfortunately going straight back first thing Monday morning. Can’t wait.

  15. I’m meeting my pal in Horseshoe after the game. I won’t have a Celtic top on, scarf in my jacket. As there are so many Celtic pubs in town, the pub will likely be a bit Sevcoesque.

Am I being daft of a great Tim in deep cover?

  16. Big Jimmy – Thanks Pal – I don’t get in to Glasgow until almost 5pm Friday so won’t be able to make that.

    CLANCY IN CHARGE OF DERBY

By CQN Magazine on 4th April 2023 Latest News

KEVIN CLANCY will be the man in charge when Celtic take on their Ibrox opponents at Parkhead on Saturday.

The match official will be assisted by Nick Walsh who will be operating the VAR multi-screens across the city.

It will be Clancy’s first Glasgow derby of the campaign, a match in which the champions know a win will push them 12 points clear at the Premiership summit with only seven games to go.

Walsh was the man with the whistle at the same venue in September when the hosts won 4-0 with a double from Liel Abada and singles from Filipe Jota, with a spectacular solo run and chip over the keeper, and David Turnbull, with an opportunist effort following a mishit clearance by netminder Jon McLaughlin.

John Beaton officiated in the 2-2 draw at Ibrox on January 2 where the visitors were denied a stick-on penalty-kick after Connor Goldson batted away a Cark Starfelt shot with both hands. The Hoops marksmen were Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi.

And Walsh was in the middle in February when the holders beat Michael Beale’s side 2-1 with a couple of strikes from Kyogo to lift the League Cup at Hampden.

David McGeachie and Ross Macleod will be Clancy’s assistants while Walsh will be helped by Daniel McFarlane.

I worked in the Horseshoe in my young days.

It has always had a “no colours” policy but is most definitely not a Sevco haunt.

Enjoy your post match drink – hope we are all celebrating!

  22. The Celtic player Ange Postecoglou won’t sell – ‘I usually say my phone’s not working’

There is rarely the concept of an unsellable player for Celtic.

    By Andrew Smith

Ange Postecoglou maintains Callum McGregor’s best is still to come following his excellent showings for Scotland – and that at club level he will ensure this comes in Celtic colours.

Operating within Scottish football means their business model requires them to asset manage coveted talents. As far as Ange Postecoglou is concerned, though, his captain Callum McGregor represents an exception. The Scotland fulcrum will lead his team against Ross County in Dingwall on Sunday lunchtime with his reputation further burnished. The 29-year-old’s role in a start to die for the nation to their Euro 2024 qualifying quest crowned with a stunning win over Spain ensured that.

It also prompted County manager Malky Mackay to declare Celtic must have attracted bids from major clubs down south for the playmaker. An accomplished performer he has no doubts would thrive in an English top flight he has first hand knowledge of managing within. Any such moves would be a waste of time, the Celtic manager maintains.

“It’s something I wouldn’t entertain,” said the 57-year-old ahead of Celtic’s match against Ross County on Sunday. “When the club talks to me about any bids, I usually say my phone’s not working. But that wouldn’t surprise me with Callum. He’s shown he can play at the very highest level. But I still think his best football is ahead of him because he’s growing in stature all the time. There’s nothing I see within him that’s going to slow him down. He’s proven that he can play at the highest level. Thankfully for us, he’s really committed to this club. In today’s football, to have that kind of individual who still loves playing for the club he grew up with – and his ambition is still to make Celtic as successful as possible – is fantastic for us.”
