Reacting to adversity

1334

I like Scott Brown and Leigh Griffiths’ reactions to our recent adversity.  It says a lot about them.  They both personalise responsibility for what happens next, this is an important part of recovery – and success.

A week ago I wrote that the League Cup semi against Ross County was the biggest game in the rest of our season, and that it wasn’t a game I’d bet on.  It provided the toxicity cup football can generate, creating a crisis mentality which rolled into Aberdeen on Wednesday.

This psychological phenomenon has to end now.  Feel free to put a date in June in the diary to get back to it.  We are in a genuine league title contest, something you and I talked about as a great thing for Scottish football not so long ago.  We have no God given right to be miles ahead of anyone.  We are here because we’ve made mistakes and an opponent stepped up.  Welcome to Celtic.

If you want to open an inquest when the patient catches a cold, knock yourself out, but I’m not up for it.  If we want this title, we circle the wagons and give the manager and players the encouragement they need to get the job done (and, erm, that includes you, ‘Phyllis’).  You can be sure Aberdeen fans will do nothing less.

Tomorrow the focus switches to Perth, where Aberdeen take on St Johnstone.  They won their first 8 league games this season, but the wheels came off the tractor immediately after their most important victory away from home – at Tynecastle.  Next up was a League Cup game against Hibs, the loss of which plunged them into a five-week chasm.

They are a team who get notoriously nervous just when they begin to think they are in with a chance.  We’ll see what Tommy Wright does with them tomorrow.

Enjoy your football.  Enjoy this league race, the challenge and the disappointments.  Enjoy that thrill when a goal goes against Aberdeen, or the downer when they score.  It will make the finale all the more rewarding, I promise you.

How was Rd robbed of a treble, he may have been robbed of a chance of the treble…as you know we have lost games before that we should have won.

Not every defeat lies at the hands of the refs.. Imho.

  2. A heartfelt thanks to all the kind folks on here for the condolences and good wishes for my pal Stephen Jones.

I showed some of the replies to his parents and family and they were quite taken by the kindness and warmth shown by the CQN family. God bless you all.

Knew him well, His mothers sister Mary was married to my uncle Joe. He was a good friend of Terry’s at the school before he came to Canada in ’81. The term “Celtic daft” was bang on the button – His sons middle name is Celtic. Will miss him dearly.

His family was quite astonished that the speed of the Jungle drums ( Fr. Jeremy) superceded any other method of communication, and these days…well , That is some feat.

I hope you are bearing up too – It gets easier mate. HH

and…..Spare a wee thought today for Mountblow Tim – who I’m sure would rather be oot there in the rain , shouting on the Celts.

Too many Tims believing the msm hype about RD, the same Tims who don’t read the msm :-)

    ——————————————————————————————————————————————————

Errant nonsense. The MSM is not responsible for RD’s repeated failures in Europe nor his rapidly deteriorating domestic record. Nor do they force him to play one up front even against modest opponents. It’s not the MSM that keep setting targets that he fails to hit – repeatedly. Lastly, I don’t think the MSM have any influence on our shambolic defending.

I for one am quite capable of making my own mind about RD and I think he is a dud. I also think he is Lawwell shield because as soon as he goes then all the attention turns on this shyster then hopefully Desmond.

Just because the MSM always have a pop at our managers doesn’t mean they are always wrong. In any event, if I was hun, I would want RD to stay in much the same way we wanted McCoist to remain in charge at the bigotdome.

Tony Mowbray is the one man who would buy Marc-Antoine Fortune three times. The idea he was cheated out of winning the league…

is an insult to the hard-working sides, and the hard-working players within those sides who did win the league

  15. Great pass from Paterson for Hearts second. A right back we’re hopefully keeping tabs on as a possible replacement for Lustig. Scores a lot of goals for a full back as well.

  18. The msm are only doing racist Scotlands bidding. The difference is that given the Huns demise it has got much much worse.

Instead of blaming your fellow Celtic supporters (all of us are victims to the racism) you need to look at Celtics board. They don’t just condone the bias by their cowardly silence but they actively join in. Furthermore it’s the boards lack of leadership and ambition that has all but destroyed us which in turn gives the msm free licence to attack us.

  19. WC-good luck to the tims involved with EK today, thrill of a lifetime for them. I think/hope we will calm it after 4 or 5 goals……. Hopefully….

Patterson also has the added advantage that he can foul with impunity. At least he could in the 0-0 at Celtic Pk.

In my opinion Thompson is a cheat, never refs each side the same, I plumped for Hibs win & Stokes to score (8/1) and to make things worse had Inter Milan & Ajax double with both teams scoring, Inter draw 3-3 with team bottom of the league…..ah well easy come easy go, I suppose a fool and his money are easily parted

  24. M6BHOY on 7TH FEBRUARY 2016 1:00 PM

Agreed, I have no confidence in our team just now.

The structure… Players played out of position, which can only make them not being able to perform at their best.

The manager… I have no confidence in him and he looks like he doesn’t either.

The board… Wasted millions hoping that they can sell on as a profit.

The support… Are showing their resentment in the way the board are running the club, by not going, hopefully, they will open their eyes and spend our money more wisely.

  25. I hope Celtic are big enough to foot the costs of today’s game and let an amateur club make some more money to help them progress. Good PR and it would stick in the craw of a lot of Huns up here.

I’m aware of all those points and wasn’t trying to suggest otherwise, merely trying to clarify how different political parties in Scotland approached the issue of the Bedroom Tax.

  28. SMSM have a front page story that 4 Celtic players including Allan and Tierney left an establishment in London

    without paying their £5000 bill.

If this is not true I assume these ghuys have a lawyer.

And if it’s true they should be, kept on, retrained, forgiven and given a payrise.

  29. Gary67

Agree with you on Paterson, a player who two years ago looked like a poor mans Dave McPherson. I have watched him develop into a smashing big player, ideal for the SPL. The same goes for Cummings at Hibs, I was a fan of the lad Stewrat at Dundee but Cummings isyounger, more gallus and could be a proper player with the right coaching.

No way back for Hibs in this unless Hertz get a man sent off.
