Relax and you’re finished, Belfast awash with Seville spirit

655

The day after the opening Champions League qualifier of the season can get a bit tasty on the blog but business has been pedestrian since last night’s professional performance by the men in hoops.  If you wanted to be pushy, you could point to a couple of glimpses of goal which fell Cliftonville’s way as a result of Celtic defenders being dragged out of position, but that’s about the measure of an unfamiliar defence at any time.

Congratulations to Georgios Samaras, who scored in Celtic’s first five European away games last season and obliged again yesterday.  A remarkable record for a player who is never employed as a penalty box striker.

It would also be tardy not to congratulate Celtic and Cliftonville supporters on their exemplary behaviour throughout the day.  After recent disturbances in Belfast there were fears that a group of travelling Celtic supporters could find trouble in the city but the casual observer could be forgiven if he thought we were in Seville again.

Maybe Belfast council should invite us over every July to spread a bit of cheer. We do football very well, in all respects.

Neil Lennon can now kick back and relax with a formality of a second and the next round not for another…. 12 days!!  Maybe not.  12 days is not a lot of time to do anything in football, so every day, including match day against Cliftonville, will need to be meticulously planned to ensure we are ready to face an opponent who could well be midseason. Relax, and you’re finished in this business.

    Jude, got it:-)

Prepare for more carnage in NI over the weekend as the scum triumphalists are not allowed to parade their brand of carnival atmosphere on another catholic area of Belfast.

Forget the water cannons, just shoot them with live rounds.

  2. I have talked a lot of nonsense on this site for a lot of years now.

It has never been nonsense to me.

We have to listen to everyone, even those that attack you, TSD (I have called him, The Smoke Detector, in my own mind) am I mental?

As soon as The Smoke Detector arrived on this site he attacked me about the Book, The Windswept House that me and Kojo had talked about.

I’ve told my own Son about 7 years ago that the God of the Bible is his real Father, certainly not me.

Petec, I’m glad you disagree “big time”. That will hopefully stimulate some debate versus my extreme view and hatred of the orange order and their rancid sectarian persecution of the people I’ve come from.

I’d nuke em if I could get all the tims out of ulster for a picnic in Glasgow, but then again I’d fire bomb Cessnock and everything west and south if I I had my hate filled finger trigger on the button.

Other than that, I’m cool banana’s with my hun brothers.

Re. Millie Dowler. Her distraught parents were given false hope because her mobile phone had been accessed. The buck surely stopped with Murdoch.

In fact,I mentioned Murdoch in passing only.

My main point was archaic U.S.gun laws and their tragic results.

The irony about Murdoch, the bete noir of the left,is that his power in the “respectable” and influential print media in U.K.was provided by the print unions at the London Times who,in `79 were well heeled enough to go on strike for a year.Lord Thompson of Fleet,a decent man, threw in the towel.Murdoch picked it up.

Aye,there’s a lot of irony involved when it comes to the emasculation of the unions.

Like the miners’ strike being illegal because no ballot was held. Scargill didn’t want to give legitimacy to Thatcher’s anti-union legislation, but would have won the ballot.

The biggest irony is that the unions were so powerful that they were in no position to prevent the real powers from cutting offf their jangly bits.

It lead to over twenty years of the working population having little or no redress against the worst excesses of management. Many of them couldn’t wait to screw the worker with wages and conditions which were a disgrace to society, and if you didn’t like it,well, they’d find someone who would.

It’s heading back that way. Just about the first thing the tories did was to double the qualifying period to two years before you could sue for unfair dismissal.

Everyone is effectively on a two years probationary period. Marvellous.

In industrial relations, there`s only one word.Balance.

Balance between the reasonable claims of the work force to keep pace with inflation and the need of employers to run profitable enterprises.

When things get out of sync. chaos and the unemployment follows.

    Who needs that shit?

Union power starting mid `60s grew apace and became such that their demands became “ambit claims.” 75% increase and 4 weeks more holidays.

Union power had a huge influence on the govts. of Wilson and Callaghan.

In fact they became the mouthpieces of the Unions.

My opinion is that Scargill was attempting to introduce a socialist state and that he used the miners for that purpose. The K.G.B. (Kuznetzov ?) claim that they were funding Michael Foot.I saw an interview where a drunken Denis Healey says:

“I was a communist all the time, haw haw.”

I feel that decent working people with decent and reasonable claims were duped(:-)) by some unionists.

Scargill , from memory, conducted two ballots where his request for strike action was rejected by the members. Subsequently he called ” the miners strike ” without ballot.

    Speaks for itself.

Thatcherism or Scargillism? Which was the lesser of the two evils?

In U.K.,I think those were the options.

The current state of Unionism in U.K.,I am not too familiar with, but there is an interesting parallel between attempts in Oz and U.K. to reduce union power in the selection and preselection of Labour(Labor)candidates.

    Rudd follows Blair.

    Great result the other night.

    Now that`s what really matters.

  21. CQN is obsessed with wingers.

Many posters are labelled as having left or right leanings.

    Jinky or Charlie.

    Agathe or Petta.

    Thatcher or Sheridan

There does seem to be a preference here for left wingers, but Jinky was the best right winger I have seen. I doubt if anyone will better him or be held in as high regard world wide.

Personally I prefer right or left of centre midfielders. I think everyone will agree that we have a fair few outstanding examples, even in my lifetime.

The jewels in a diamond formation on the right and left were Murdoch and Auld, but we have had a few on both sides of center who commanded respect and attention.

Fernie, Collins, Crerand, Lubo and McStay all spring to immediate mind but I’m sure I could add more than a handful who ploughed the middle of the spectrum furrows.

    Balance?

    Correct.

Those with power want to keep it,and those without it want to have it.

The man in the middle-most of us on here-is simply cannon fodder and collateral damage.

The huns will tell you Willie Henderson was better than JINKY.

Anytime Willie Henderson is mentioned on here,it is always in glowing terms,as a player and as a man.

A hun mate of mine kept on about him being better than JINKY that I finally agreed with him.

I said that if the players swapped sides,Willie would be a regular for us,Jinky wouldn’t even get a game for them.

    Exactly,he said.

When I explained to him it was because his club were a bunch of bigots,he never mentioned it again…..
