RODGERS IN EURO MISSION: No.48

0

BRENDAN RODGERS will take charge of Celtic for the 48th time in European competition against Feyenoord at Parkhead this evening.

The Hoops boss hopes to bring down the curtain on a luckless qualifying campaign in Group E with a win over the Dutch outfit who kick-started the club’s misery with a 2-0 victory over nine-man opposition after the quickfire second-half dismissals for Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Holm.

Agonisingly, Rodgers then witnessed Lazio snatching a stoppage-time winner through Pedro at Parkhead after Kyogo Furuhashi had netted a seventh-minute breakthrough strike.
THE THINKER…Brendan Rodgers is pensive on the touchline.
The Japanese striker was even quicker off the mark against Atletico Madrid in the east end of Glasgow when he fired the hosts ahead in the fourth minute. Following an Antoine Griezmann leveller, Luis Palma thumped Celtic into the lead again, but once more the men from Madrid came back to gain a draw with an equaliser from Alvaro Morata.
Alas, the Hoops were reduced to 10 men after only 22 minutes of the return at the Metropolitano Stadium when Daizen Maeda was red-carded in the 6-0 collapse.
And it was another tale of woe late last month when veteran hitman Ciro Immobile netted a double in the last eight minutes to give Lazio a 2-0 success.
Now Rodgers is aiming for that elusive first victory against Feyenoord this time out.
The 50-year-old Irishman has guided the Hoops to 16 wins and nine draws while losing 22 of the previous 47 outings.
