In fairness to NL he surely played a back three because both RB’s were injured, and I was surprised when we took a two goal lead. When we did despite what NL says RC never looked back, and it was only a matter of time till they scored, when they pinged long balls onto the exposed Wilson Ambrose or Rogne – take your pick.

Here we go …………………….
Auldheid on
Anybody who has played organised football on grass at any level knows that performance improves in relation to the condition of the surface. A first touch that on a good surface kills the ball and gives the receiver time on it, becomes two or three touches. The technical edge, which after all is what distinguishes good players from average journeymen, is lost.
RC knew this and played on it. They also mastered the conditions better when they cleared from defence. The ball was blootered long enough and high enough to a) relieve pressure b) give their forwards a chance to put pressure on our defence, who inevitably were back pedalling as Celic played their natural forcing forward game.
Thus we had a fairly even contest between two sides in spite of the wage difference. I’m not sure why RC were so poor in the first 20 mins, they just kept giving the ball away close to their defence but Quinn breaking forward twice was a sign theyu were getting their act together.
The first goal was an example of what was to come. Two clearances from us failed to clear their last line of defense and the ball was returned quickly, broke kindly and was despatched efficiently. Had we simply been able to hump the ball up the park then they would not have scored. But humping the ball up the park is not what Celtic fans want or what players are coached to do. OK we might need to be more flexible and resort to route one but for that we need a target man and do not have one, so options are not many.
Surface and weather conditions played a major part in the upset but ten out of ten to RC for making the most of them.
If you have not played football on cinders, red blaze, potholed poorly drained grass pitches and then a bowling green surface then that might explain the readiness to dismiss a poor surface as a contributory factor. It was, but we failed to overcome the conditions. RC found it easier.
Having said that the Vigurs (sp?) lad looked a player at ease on the surface. We had no one as comfortable.
Good job Man Utd did not take that view with Alex Ferguson.
To have a succeful team you need stability over and between seasons, especially when players are so “portable”.
Celtic need a manager who “gets” Celtic and we have that in NL and the longer he says the more he “gets” us.
In getting us he will know for himself when the time is right for Celtic (not for himself) to move on. In getting Celtic he will put them before himself.
