During the Gordon Strachan era I dreaded home games against Kilmarnock. Gordon was permanently under pressure and someone would always lob the “Do you know it’s been 53/54/55 years since Celtic have lost at home to Kilmarnock?’ question in his direction. The last thing the guy needed was a historical record for his many begrudgers to use against him.
Fortunately the record went in less pressing times but tonight’s game is still loaded with historical resonance. One more clean sheet and Celtic will equal their record of not conceding a goal in 10 consecutive league games, previously achieved in 1913-14 and again in 1921-22. It’s safe to assume none of us were there in 1922 to see the record met for the last time.
Celtic are now motoring towards the title but it took heroics from Fraser Forster to keep Motherwell and Hibernian out on our last two games. One moment’s slip in concentration and the record will disappear, like IPO cash at a Cowboy Football Club (not the Dallas Cowboys, or their Scottish partner club).
Kilmarnock have scored in eight of their last 10 games and have hit what passes for form in Ayrshire, tonight will not be straightforward. I want to be there when the record is matched, and beaten, so same again, please, Fraser.
There’s been a bit of frivolity in the comments section at the suggestion Newco Rangers rejected a £900k bid for a player, especially after their predecessor clubs’ claim to have rejected a £9m bid for a player, weeks before entering administration. Knowing the modus operandi of these people you should know better.
If £900k was enough to fix everything I am sure such a bid, if real, would be accepted. If it would merely buy a few more weeks, the only point in accepting it would be to look after creditors’ interests, and we know how that one played out at Ibrox last time.
I saw photographs of indignant Norwich fans reacting to Robert Snodgrass, who returned a verbal volley after being barracked during last night’s game against Newcastle. The sight of several grown men, on their feet, barracking and gesticulating, at being demeaned by a football player shouting back, is as great an indication that some football fans need to get a grip as anything you’ll see.
Well done to STV’s Peter Smith, who is one of three nominated by the Royal Television Society for the Young Talent of the Year award. Smith, aged 12, brought the nation to a standstill when twice interviewing Newco Rangers’ greatest ever owner, Charles Green, laying bare the absurdity of the man while others worked hard to support him. If you ever meet Green, watch him repeat the statuesque performance given to Smith if you ask him to produce those emails from the Dallas Cowboys. Hope Peter wins.
Best wishes too to Krishnan Guru-Murthy who is up for the National Presenter of the Year award. He once played a small but key part in media coverage of Scottish football.

What if in the opinion of a poster on TSFM
————-
From what I can gather, TGEF may be making a move on his claim over the assets before the club/company goes bust – as its game over for Whyte if an admin or lquidation event puts the assets outwith the reach of his claim.
Perhaps the Spivs were in a race to bust the club/company as a defence against TGEF progressing the claim?

Aye. That’s the last thing you want to do, waste any time while you are there.
That’s why I didn’t bother with the Sopranos tour.
Depends when you are going, but the boat trip around Manhattan is definitely worth doing. I think it starts in March.

Achamore Rd in Drumchapel, is the area Danny McGrain came from. The plot thickens. :)
Hi Paul67,
“There’s been a bit of frivolity in the comments section at the suggestion Newco Rangers rejected a £900k bid for a player, especially after their predecessor clubs’ claim to have rejected a £9m bid for a player, weeks before entering administration. Interestingly enough Mr McCoist’s last Football Club were struggling financially when they reached the January window.
Ally had over 20 million pounds worth of readily sellable Football talent(sic).
This money plus the reduction in wage bill could have gone along way to save that Club.
Ally didn’t want to sell, frit incase his team got beat by the famous Glasgow Celtic.
He eventually agreed to sell Jelavic for £5m as long as he got Daniel Cousin in as a replacement.
It was far too little way too late – that Club died.
Let’s hope Ally’s learned his lesson and we don’t have such foolishness again:-)

It’s good that our Under20’s earned a win last night.
They haven’t yet played half of their fixtures and seem to be 5pts off the pace with two games in hand.
I hope that our club plays its home match, postponed from November, against Sevco behind closed doors at Lennoxtown.
I further hope that our club doesn’t agree to play the return fixture at Ibrox. Please concede the game and points, then do your best to win the league, elsewhere.
Ah well a wee read there, best to start heading to the game, Ayrshire on the move to paradise……!
It is indeed Green and White

What crowd are we expecting tonight, our bus is the only one from our area running tonight ( usually 4) and it’s not full. I think 25,000-30,000 HH
Ghuys,
Looking forward to the match this evening, winter warmers getting looked out.
Team that started the second half at Easter Road should start this evening.
Despite the score line , I thought the back four were a bit ragged looking than in recent matches, so Effe in particular needs to provide more cover to young Darnell , as Killie are bound to attack our right-side, as they will get little change out of Emilio.
The very brief glimpse of our new Norwegian maestro , it looks as though he doesn’t mind pushing right on to the opposition , rather than standing back marking space …… so hopefully we can notch a few and he gets a run out.
Pukki has got a good shot on him, regularly in the knock about before the match , he batters his shots regularly past Zaluska, in contrast to much of the rest of the team.
He seemed a bit stronger on the ball on Sunday, and hopefully he can push on …….

On the Daniel Fergus signing for us because he was dissed by themuns cause of his moniker.
Don’t know if it was urban myth but apparently Jock was asked byMSM back in the day if he had to sign one player from two of equal ability but one was Kaflick and one was Prod who would he sign. Rationale apparently was expectation Jock would say Cathoilic hence we could be labelled just as sectarian as the died mob.
Jock supposedly said obviously he would sign the Protestant as there would be no chance of Rankers signing a Catholic.
Probably urban myth as there’s no way they would have underestimated the big mhan to such an extent or would have had the temerity to ask such a question.
Like to think its true though.

I hate to mention the liquidated team, but I did love the way the BBC Football Gossip column today referred to “Scottish Giants Rangers” rejected a bid of 900k for Wallace. A bit like someone calling Jimmie Krankie big man. Wrong on more than one count!!

Very good point. Just goes to show how their scheme failed spectacularly. They clearly wanted to retain their squad and stay in the SPL, but shed all the debt (either via CVA or newco) and then get new investment to enhance the squad. The Duff & Phelps admin period was a farce, especially when you look at what has happened at other clubs.

Naka’s goal, one of the best goals I’ve seen scored at Celtic Park. Mind you big Virgil’s against the Hibs was no’too bad!
