The Celtic soap opera season continued through the weekend. We were taken to the school of St Mirren on Saturday, then watched incredulously as a central defender we knew little about but who Sky incorrectly reported had signed a pre-contract, was instead heading for Liverpool.
Vasilis Barkas was dropped after the 2-2 draw with Livingston, he would be forgiven for being grateful as Scott Bain was given the unenviable burden of coping with a level of defending unseen at Celtic in decades. For the good of the player as well as the team, Neil Lennon has to accept Shane Duffy does not have what it takes at this level. A midweek pantomime against Hamilton went unpunished, while St Mirren fully exploited his meanderings.
In early December, I was assured Neil Lennon had the full support of the dressing room. Speaking in the heat after Saturday’s defeat, he questioned the players’ attitude and behaviour. There was no containment of the problem, no deflection of pressure off the squad and onto his more capable shoulders. Whatever goodwill exists must be under strain.
It must be difficult to find the words for so many post-match failures but throwing players under the bus is not the received wisdom. You and I are left to ponder what direction our season will plunge towards next.
Deadline Day in the ‘January’ transfer window leaves us with little to get excited about. We can hope for a central defender to fill the gap left by Christopher Jullien and a right back to allow Kristofer Ajer to move back into the middle. We cannot, though, buy confidence.

DoF needs to be guided by some basics around ‘ how do we want to play football?’ and the player profile and all the professional building blocks to support this objective … this should minimise all the huffing and puffing that could go on between DoF and 1st team coach ….
We need a proper strategic football plan which addresses our high turn round of projects , more stability in team selection, practical output would be a centre half who is naturally left footed , a mix of midfielders (pointless having 5 tanner ba men in the team – all wanting at least 2 extra touches on the ball)
A permanent structure needs to be put in place which will survive a mgr leaving or being binned ….
We need to get lucky in the appointments and clearing out the wantaways , show ponies …. perversely a few doings before the season clocks off may make the Board pay attention… not something I’d wager on though
I’m tired of talking about PL and NL and Celtic.
Its draining, for the first time in my life I’m not looking forward to tomorrow as I fear that we are just digging a bigger hole. No one willing to make a decision at a multi million pound organisation. That’s the real issue and the longer it goes on the less interested I’m getting.

I just wonder why the board/Desmond are keeping things as they are? Do they have actually have someone lined up for the job who cannot come until later in the year? If so, surely handing it to someone as caretaker would be better than this?

something that annoys me about the CEO’s I know, ALL QUALIFIED ACCOUNTANTS, that they never did any other degrees ever, even training courses were a pain to them.

Id rather big Dom showed substance rather than bluster
It’s interesting to read that other big rivals in football don’t seem to mind calling out the other, Real Madrid voicing concern at Messi’s wages and Barcelona breaching FFP, I get that it’s a bigger and better league but even so they are the countries biggest rivals (at least to the outside world) it’ll never catch on here

I know there’s been a few joke posts but maybe they think this season was a blip and the players are at fault.
Possible they plan to give Lenny one more chance, it’s starting to feel like that.

Despite our serious misgivings about the present board, they are businessmen first and foremost although you do wonder at that sometimes. Giving the present manager another chance after this season of all seasons would surely be a complete financial disaster. People of course are free to do as they wish with their money but how many season ticket holders would renew with that prospect facing them?
I will be renewing.

all we need is a center back – doesn’t matter if he is silky on the ball – can he jump, good positional sense, athletic and above 6.3.! we MUST find that player!
Although maybe his right hand man Marvin Compper could put in a good word for us :)
People will make up their own minds about renewing but I am sure a good number would think twice if the board continued with the present regime.

I don’t think stating the obvious is bringing bad news
I think we’ll be back on top next season, I think we’re a few key personnel changes away from dominance again. I don’t think dreaming about unrealistic managers or technical directors who don’t have any apparent qualifications is damaging but I don’t think it’s helpful.
