SPANISH AYES: GERMANY HERE WE COME

CALLUM McGREGOR and his Scotland team-mates WILL be playing in the Euro 24 Finals in Germany next summer.

A goal from Pablo Gavi three minutes after the interval was enough to give Spain a 1-0 win over Norway in Oslo tonight – and open the door to the soccer showpiece for Steve Clarke’s team.

The Scots had put themselves on the brink of back-to-back Euro Championships after winning the first five of their Group A qualifiers, including a 2-0 victory over the Spanish at Hampden.

GERMANY CALLING…Callum McGregor fires Scotland into the lead against Georgia at Hampden in June. Scott McTominay added a second as Steve Clarke’s men won 2-0.

Clarke’s men lost 2-0 in controversial circumstances in Seville on Thursday, but knew they would be involved in the soccer extravaganza in June 2024 if Spain avoided defeat against Erling Haaland and Co tonight.

They went one better by taking all three points from a tussle where they were rarely threatened.

The visitors, in fact, thought they had scored the opening goal in the first-half, but an effort from captain Alvaro Morata was ruled out after a VAR intervention.

With two games still to play next month – against Georgia in Tbilisi and the Norwegians at Hampden – it’s the Scots who are through along with Spain.

Celtic skipper McGregor will certainly be involved in the Championships which kick off in Munich on June 14.
