Strachan lessons as Milan looms

1655

Neil Lennon will begin to get his players back at Lennoxtown tomorrow after, what for most of the first team, has been a two week international break.  For many of the established players, he’ll be hoping for a clean bill of health, but with trips to Tynecastle and Milan ahead, the manager will be keen to spend time with Teemu Pukki.

Teemu played 92 minutes for Finland in Tbilisi last night so will get little time on the training fields before Celtic’s next two games.  Tynecastle itself may provide the most effective training opportunity ahead of Wednesday’s game at the San Siro.

Delighted for Gordon Strachan, who has already caused an unlikely upturn in Scotland’s fortunes.  He is a better coach and tactician than he ever got credit for.  His Key Performance Indicators (winning leagues, knock out stages of the Champions League) were achieved in spades, but there was a soft underbelly which always seemed to undermine progress.  Curiously, his Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in all competitions, despite winning the league in both seasons this run spanned.

The one game during this period of note was the 1-0 defeat to Milan in the Champions League knock out stage; the only game Celtic completed 90 minutes without conceding.  If Neil Lennon can replicate this achievement he stands an excellent chance of a second successive memorable Champions League campaign.

  1. I am ST holder, I already have my home match package. I don’t like this season ticket holders getting the chance to buy extra tickets and think he should be open up to a general sale.

I was trying to get two for mates as they couldn’t get them for themselves. Tried over the phone and online but didn’t stand a chance. I think you had to be there early doors queuing. Had it been open to a general sales my pals could have done that, it would have been their responsibility and I wouldn’t be left feeling that I have let them down.

The way to stop the sale of tickets is to have tickets printed with the individuals name on and require them to produce corresponding ID

No they shouldn’t because its a pain in the arse carrying ID with you just to get into a game, juventus away was murder took ages to get in because everybody was showing ID in the pissing rain and darkness. If you get a ticket well done if you don’t tough luck HH

Yes season ticket holders had opportunity to buy extra packages from 9:30 for one day only.

Any unsold tickets would be available for open public sale from Saturday – but there are none left

The club have ensured season ticket holders get furst dibs and that us the way it should be

My complaint is the guys running the ticket hotline caused season ticket holders to dial up each time rather than be put on a priority waiting list. They should also have had an auto message to advise sold out. Someone made a lot of money from Celtic fans ( season ticket holders btw!!!) some smartasses on here think it’s a bit of a laff – which is unfortunate …

  8. An interesting about turn by the Blue Knights on the EGM.

Also got the announcement out when the Ian Black was concluding.

Firstly they wanted the EGM, to bring the RIFC board to account.

Then they decided to back off for three places on the Board and the current Board members to go up for re-election at the AGM.

Of course the current Board agreed to take on the extra Board members but did not agree to putting themselves up for re-election.

So the Blue Knights went back to their original position i.e. The EGM.

Now they’ve totally backed down and are waiting for the AGM.

Now it could be they were simply out maneuvered and had their bluff called, yet why would the not just accept the three places on the Board, it’s what they’ve been after since Newco transmutated?

I think there Will be two good reasons, firstly you don’t want to be a RIFC Board member when people start asking about the IPO and SB monies.

Secondly, they don’t want to own it. Rangers Will have to be funded for the next 2 1/2 seasons at least, or about 50million at least.

The Blue Knights have never shown an appetite for that level of commitment.

Whatever the reason, the fact was that Rangers only chance IMO was for these factions to unite.

Anyone betting they’ll make it to the AGM.

In that case they could run a list of those who have bought most individual game tickets over the last year and offer those who have bought most an opportunity to buy CL tickets. Its not rocket science, its actually a good marketing strategy as the additional benefit is that you’ll get guys going to a few more games if they thought it would help with a chance of getting a CL ticket.

  10. Kjam – I feel the same – I had 5 people looking for tickets.

To be fair to Celtic I actually think this is a clever way of encouraging season book sales – but for fans who cant afford season books its a bit horrible.

They should keep a few thousand for general sale regardless – but to be fair it would spark a frenzy from all I have seen.

Only downside is many regular non sb holders don’t but tickets direct and go via csc busses and in doing so helps out themselves, the bus and the guy who canny manage.

That’s correct. I bought a cup ticket from the shop last season and the assistant had a clerical log sheet which would be used by the ticket office to record my purchase. The club do a lot to satisfy the supporters. Much of it is ignored when an individual finds them-self losing out.

There is one sure fire way to guarantee a CL ticket.

  14. Owen 10:50 Apologies if I came across as over critical of Celtic it was not my intention, just trying to point out that they are the only body that could do anything to prevent the re-selling of tickets but there is no incentive for them to do so, so why should they bother? My son is a regular attender at games but due to Uni commitments and working most Saturdays he has reluctantly not purchased a ST for the last two years. He asked me to try and get him a package as he is on holiday at the moment. He will be disappointed just as I will be disappointed with my fellow ST holders if I see any for sale on any touting websites.

On the upside, looking forward to a sold out CP for all three games.

More money for Neil’s transfer Warchest in January :-)

  15. Sorry non ST holders (I’m one) but Celtic are quite right to make tickets available to ST holders until they’re sold out.

They have every right to increase the attractiveness of their principal product (season ticket) by awarding it with exclusivity of access to high demand events.

High season ticket revenue is Celtic’s sine qua non; if they didn’t reward season ticket holders the Club would suffer. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

Sold out stadia for CL games suggests they are getting their ticketing strategy for these games spot on.

This has been club policy for some time on big European nights, dating back at least to the Arsenal game under Mowbray. It was the same with allocation for Cup Final tickets in days gone by. People who attend regularly are rewarded by the club with being able to take their family and friends to the high demand games, it makes alot of commercial sense.

That’s not right season ticket holder should get there own and nothing else or you end up with guys getting tickets for people who have never been and supporters who go every week but can’t afford a ST miss out. If you buy a ticket For any game from Celtic they have your details and they could have offered those guys first. Why do ST holders need 2 tickets ? ( I have a ST ) HH

  19. Hamiltontim is praying for Oscar on

ST holders rightly get priority and I have no problem with ST holders being offered additional packages so long as they buy for the 3 games.

However, there should be allowance made for non ST holders who have attended previous games. A simple voucher for those who attended the Karagandy match at Parkhead would have sufficed.

Saltires, I agree that the telephone system whilst running alongside online ticket sales and punters buying from the TO directly is a recipe for disaster.

Ps since the Dens Park riot on Boxing Day, Celtic have insisted that names of individuals are written on all tickets for away games.

  22. Hi, the club knows who they sell every ticket to , thus they could have issued letters offering packages to the folks with the most purchases outside season ticket holders. Rewarding people who come along regularily but are currently not season ticket holders.

All of these folks are ‘customers’ and potentially future season ticket holders and everyone else would see the more tickets you buy the more chance you have of getting tickets.

It’s also not Mc Coists business to influence where the nation’s moral compass points in relation to what is acceptable betting for football players or to widen the debate sport in general
