Strachan lessons as Milan looms

1655

Neil Lennon will begin to get his players back at Lennoxtown tomorrow after, what for most of the first team, has been a two week international break.  For many of the established players, he’ll be hoping for a clean bill of health, but with trips to Tynecastle and Milan ahead, the manager will be keen to spend time with Teemu Pukki.

Teemu played 92 minutes for Finland in Tbilisi last night so will get little time on the training fields before Celtic’s next two games.  Tynecastle itself may provide the most effective training opportunity ahead of Wednesday’s game at the San Siro.

Delighted for Gordon Strachan, who has already caused an unlikely upturn in Scotland’s fortunes.  He is a better coach and tactician than he ever got credit for.  His Key Performance Indicators (winning leagues, knock out stages of the Champions League) were achieved in spades, but there was a soft underbelly which always seemed to undermine progress.  Curiously, his Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in all competitions, despite winning the league in both seasons this run spanned.

The one game during this period of note was the 1-0 defeat to Milan in the Champions League knock out stage; the only game Celtic completed 90 minutes without conceding.  If Neil Lennon can replicate this achievement he stands an excellent chance of a second successive memorable Champions League campaign.

  2. Hello all,,

Just discovered that I need to travel to Bilbao next week Wednesday to Friday for work.

First time for me in Bilbao.

Does anyone know of a bar that will show the game on Wednesday, the Irish Pub in the city center, the Dubliner, is not listed on Celtic bars and the Pub website makes it look more like an Irish theme pub for English tourists, which suggests they will show Chelsea and Arsenal (and probably Barca) before Celtic.

A place called Building Kirol & Bar, is listed does anyone know this place.

I will have very little time to move around checking venues on Wednesday evening so any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Kolncelt.

  3. Monoghan 1900 @ 15;55,

Well let’s face it, they are correct in some ways.

They are oft betrayed as deluded and bigots, it can’t be nice, especially if you are a supporter of the most successful Club in history.

BTW I know what a Fenian is but what is a Tarrier.

If Lenny has learned one thing from WGS over the last two Scotland games its Charlie Mulgrew in the holding midfield role is our only option to try to replace Victor in Milan. Superb in both games, with his captain by his side. No more wide left midfield or left back, get Charlie in the middle in front of Efe & Virgil.

In all of Lenny’s 3 and a bit years as Celtic manager, not once has he played Mulgrew and Brown is the 2 holding midfielders in that formation, probably because he has Ledley there.

Think the only time we’re likely to see it is if Joe (or possibly Izzy) gets injured.

There is only one genuine Irish Bar in Bilbao – The Wicklow Arms

    On Calle Rodriguez Arias. 30.

They are unlikely to have it but will be able to tell you where it can be watched.

    + 00 34 944 42 51 48 – the owner is Michael.

Failing that you will be able to see it in Silence in a bookies….. a very sterile expeieince

Until I started looking at the various Orc websites, I would have guessed that it meant someone who was in the habit of turning up late.

Given the context in which it is used by the Orcs, however, it appears to be synonymous with both ‘Fenian’ and ‘Taig’.

  9. FF senior counsel explains the liquidation/same club conundrum:

“It all seems to hinge on “Scots Law” saying that there is no legal distinction between a club and a holding company after incorporation.

….. they dont seem to have grasped the fact that before the holding company was liquidated, an asset purchase (including the CLUB) took place – i.e it was “un-incorporated” or extracted from the holding company.”

  24. Evening Timland from a hun free mountain valley.

53,000 huns meet in the bigot dome for a ‘Huns Are Not Stupid’ convention.

Sir Walter addresses the crowd.. ‘We are all here today to prove to the world huns are not stupid. Can I have a volunteer please?’

Ally McOist gingerly works his way through the crowd and steps up to the stage.

The cardigan asks him ‘What is 15 plus 15?’

After 15 or 20 seconds Sally says, ‘ Forty!’

Obviously everyone is a little disappointed. Then the huns start chanting ‘Give him another chance! Give him another chance!’

The cardigan says, ‘Well since we have a capacity crowd, world-wide press and global broadcast media here, I think we can give him another chance.’

So he asks, ‘What is 5 plus 5?’

After nearly 30 seconds he eventually says, ‘ Twelve?’

Sir Walter looks down and just lets out a dejected sigh.

Everyone is disheartened and Sally starts sobbing.

But then the 53,000 huns begin to yell and wave their hands shouting, ‘Give him another chance! Give him another chance!’

Sir Walter, unsure whether he is now doing more harm than good eventually says, ‘OK then, what is 2 plus 2?’

    Silence hangs over the stadium.

Sally closes his eyes, and after a whole minute eventually says, ‘Four?’

Pandemonium breaks out throughout the stadium as the hun crowd stand to a man, wave their arms, stomp their feet and scream,

‘Give him another chance! Give him another chance!’

  26. Companies Act 2006

    “1159 Meaning of “subsidiary” etc

    (1) A company is a “subsidiary” of another company, its “holding company”, if

    that other company—

    Companies Act 2006 (c. 46)

    Part 38 — Companies: interpretation 557

    (a) holds a majority of the voting rights in it, or

    (b) is a member of it and has the right to appoint or remove a majority of

    its board of directors, or

    (c) is a member of it and controls alone, pursuant to an agreement with

other members, a majority of the voting rights in it,

or if it is a subsidiary of a company that is itself a subsidiary of that other

    company.”

In order for a company to be described as a holding company, there requires to be a company which is a subsidiary of the holding company. There was only one company/club – it’s pan bread.
