Stunning work by Celtic supporters

689

Five years ago when CQN’er Kano was confined to hospital with a debilitating illness Pablophanque was first to issue the call, “We need to raise the money to bring Kano home”.  In the weeks which followed the Bring Martin Home campaign launched.  The campaign succeeded and then some; the Kano Foundation is its lasting legacy.

While working in Holland in May 2011 Pablophanque took ill suddenly and died a few days later, leaving two young-adult children to deal with matters a long way from home.  As the news filtered through of his death, the call went out in the comments section here to raise money to bring his remains home.  One day later Pablo’s son was told the money was there and to confirm arrangements.

Pablo’s estate has recently been settled and his son and daughter wanted to repay the generosity shown to them when they needed it most.  Mary’s Meals are now in receipt of £4500 from them towards our CQteN Malawi School Kitchen Appeal.  It is an enormous gesture by two young people and shows the level of appreciation they have to those who helped them in 2011.

Raising money is hard and I remember telling Pablo his idea was ambitious, to say the least.  There has never been a spontaneous movement like Bring Martin Home and the Kano Foundation.  Many of those who made the call for Pablo were inspired by Bring Martin Home.  The cumulative impact of this generosity is quite stunning.

My thanks to Pablo’s son, daughter and brother for this fantastic support, inspired, as it was, by the wider Celtic community. I never use the ‘Greatest fans in the world’ line, largely as I don’t think there is much competition, but the Celtic support are among the finest human beings you could hope to meet.

Thanks also to everyone who booked a seat or table for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day Party at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 14 March, where we hoped to raise the bulk of the money for the school kitchen.  If you want know what it’s all about, read Friday’s article.

My interest in cricket began with said moustachioed D.K.Lillee,and his partner in crime,Thompson when they declared not only the pain they intended to inflict on the English team, but also their “rogueish” intentions toward English womanhood.

I’m sure your all inclusive includes young supporters who populate the Green Brigade too.

I’m like to think I’m of the mind – if there is an issue – why is there an issue, can the issue be amicably resolved – before I don my black cap and extremely discriminate with prejudice.

I’m wondering if no Green Brigaders are charged and convicted are Celtic going to be big enough to hold up an apologetic hand and re-instate that particular singing section.

Or, if after the next hun game, if the majority of the crowd burst into “cheer up fat Sally! Oh! what can it mean, to a sad O……. ………… …… …… ……. .. …. ……” are Celtic going to issue 50,000 precautionary suspensions?

Are we going to go back to the old days where you could buy a season book which included a game against the huns and a season book where you could decline the pleasure and save yourself 50 quid or so?

  11. A question for all……..Paul Murray said this morning, “this is the clubs first AGM in three years” does he not mean, “this is the new clubs first AGM” or have I missed something here, are AGMs every three years now? Just asking .

  12. The Green Brigade, a bunch of young Tims,(who some accuse of being political) have an affection for Bobby Sands and they showed it, UEFA, a grey tribe very much practiced in all things political, have an affection for Nelson Mandela, and they showed it.

Nelson Mandela had an affection for the life and death of Bobby Sands, and he showed it. Nelson Mandela said he was inspired by Bobby Sands.

Must be a quantum leap too far for UEFA to appreciate that Bobby Sands and Nelson Mandela were brothers.

re the AGM across the way. In this last week we are seeing posturing from both sides. Sally handing his shares over, statements from the new Chief Exec, Malcolm Murray and countless others. The real damage will be done when the AGM is over, regardless of who is in control. For what it’s worth, I am sure the present incumbents will remain in power. As I say though, it won’t really matter how the vote goes. Sooner rather than later the real players will show their hand and the dark forces will wonder what hit them..again..when those heavy investors decide it’s payback time and communicate just exactly what they intend to do to fill their pockets. Whether that be selling the assets and leasing them back, another share flotation for the gullible, whatever. They are completely missing the key points.

    Reminds me of;

A traveller hired an Ass and it’s owner to convey him to a distant place. The

day was intensely hot, and with the sun shining at full strength, the

traveller stopped to rest, and sought shelter from the heat under

the shadow of the Ass. As this afforded only protection for one,

and as the traveller and the owner of the Ass both claimed it, a

violent dispute arose between them as to which of them had the

right to the shadow. The owner maintained that he had hired out the

Ass only, and not his shadow. The traveller asserted that he had,

with the hire of the Ass, hired his shadow also. The quarrel

proceeded from words to blows, and while the men fought, the Ass

    galloped off.

In quarrelling about the shadow we often lose the substance…..

    ——————————————————————————————————————-

Like you, I’m pretty sure the same people will be in place at iBrokes after their AGM. It seems so obvious, it makes me think I’m missing something. Why all the bluster from Alkie Murray etc? They don’t have enough in the way of voting rights to win this. So I’m guessing their strategy is to create as much of a stir as possible so that, after the AGM, they are hoping to persuade fans not to buy season tickets? There are a couple of fan groups agitating for same. I’m not sure how successful that will be. If they are successful in persuading fans not to buy season tickets then they will reach admin. sooner.

The point of interest is when share sales will take place. Someone mentioned them trading at 35p yesterday.

    I won’t comment on you ass-fixation…

    ;-)

  25. Whatever you can blame Peter Lawwell for does not include:

Player scouting, selection and coaching, tactics and the like this is down to the management team so why does he get the blame for the so called bad signings and not praise for the obviously good like VVD? Nonsensical to blame him for any of this.

Baffling team selections, the seeming inability to learn from previous tactical errors, especially in Europe lie square at the door of the manager and his team not the board.

Stewarding is not the responsibility of the Chief Executive either but he gets the blame for anything seen as untoward in that direction.

Maybe the ire for the stupid law put into force by the SNP which started the persecution of our supporters should be laid at the door of the Scottish Parliament not the Celtic board.

Also the masonic cabal that is he Police force in Scotland take delight in chasing our supporters around the country filming them as they go, how many Huns have been arrested this year for their constant sectarian singing which can be clearly heard on the TV but is never mentioned by the MSM?

Time for a bit of perspective where the board is concerned.

The blog seems to no more than a social media site these days for people wishing to abuse each other online, which is a great pity, particularly when you read the article this comment is pinned to.

The Celtic support and movement have done great things in the last few years, many of them through the opportunity to do so afforded by this site and others, Vanessa Riddle, Oscar Knox Kano, Pablophanque and latterly his children and many others.

Especially at the time of year, maybe a little charity to our fellow men and women on the blog would be a good way to finish the calendar year.

  26. Ghanaian striker Mawuli Osei has claimed Celtic want to bolster their contingent of recruits from Israeli football by signing him next month.

Osei is the top scorer in the Israeli top flight, with 13 goals in just 11 games for Ashkelon, and both the player and his agent claim there is interest.

  27. I feel like I’m an alien, I don’t have an opinion on The Rangers AGM and I couldn’t give a flying monkey’s tosh about The Rangers AGM.

  28. MWD

Aye, they’ll win ok. They already know they have 54% tied up, so, they use McCoist as part of the master plan. “Look Ally, we have won. We have won without your 1.5% of shares. So, give yours to the fans. That way, after we win, you get your shares back, the fans still love you and you can tell them to buy season tickets. Share price creeps back up a few pence, everyone wins. Most importantly, you are still seen as the good guy”

McCoist does as asks…and whatya know…check their blogs..he’s a legend!

  29. Cricket,lovely cricket .

Maybe not so lovely . Too one sided to be enjoyable. Massive gap between the 2 sides.England thumped and humiliated.

Very good innings from Ben Stokes. Compare his effort and application with that of the egotistical prat that is Kevin Pietersen.
