Stunning work by Celtic supporters

689

Five years ago when CQN’er Kano was confined to hospital with a debilitating illness Pablophanque was first to issue the call, “We need to raise the money to bring Kano home”.  In the weeks which followed the Bring Martin Home campaign launched.  The campaign succeeded and then some; the Kano Foundation is its lasting legacy.

While working in Holland in May 2011 Pablophanque took ill suddenly and died a few days later, leaving two young-adult children to deal with matters a long way from home.  As the news filtered through of his death, the call went out in the comments section here to raise money to bring his remains home.  One day later Pablo’s son was told the money was there and to confirm arrangements.

Pablo’s estate has recently been settled and his son and daughter wanted to repay the generosity shown to them when they needed it most.  Mary’s Meals are now in receipt of £4500 from them towards our CQteN Malawi School Kitchen Appeal.  It is an enormous gesture by two young people and shows the level of appreciation they have to those who helped them in 2011.

Raising money is hard and I remember telling Pablo his idea was ambitious, to say the least.  There has never been a spontaneous movement like Bring Martin Home and the Kano Foundation.  Many of those who made the call for Pablo were inspired by Bring Martin Home.  The cumulative impact of this generosity is quite stunning.

My thanks to Pablo’s son, daughter and brother for this fantastic support, inspired, as it was, by the wider Celtic community. I never use the ‘Greatest fans in the world’ line, largely as I don’t think there is much competition, but the Celtic support are among the finest human beings you could hope to meet.

Thanks also to everyone who booked a seat or table for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day Party at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 14 March, where we hoped to raise the bulk of the money for the school kitchen.  If you want know what it’s all about, read Friday’s article.

  5. TET, I have supported Celtic’s fiscal policy but find myself mouth agape at the stunning incompetence over the current supporter issues.

PL, it would seem, has totally lost the majority fanbase; sacrificing atmosphere and trust to bandwagon-jump and vilify the more passionate among us.

He chose to feed the SMSM the lazy soundbites they craved over addressing the genuine concerns of his own customers. The media could have been kept on rations; he failed to recognize the only people blowing Fir Park and Bannergate out of all proportion were the same people who have habitually attempted to bury the club’s reputation at every middling opportunity over the years. In short he took the rambling lunatic off the streets and gave him gravitas and status.

Incisive but ill-timed politicizing by the GB is allowed to be taken off-message; a message needing heard and debated as Celtic supporters are criminalized for the very act of supporting the club. Minor disorder and happenstance vandalism at Fir Park becomes major headlines where SOMEONE WILL DIE.

This after a failed media campaign just weeks earlier to portray the Amsterdam police thuggery as riotous intent from Celtic supporters which eclipsed the vermin’s rape of Manchester in 08.

Did he imagine that now siding with the likes of Jackson, Keevins, Leckie, et al would solicit the approval of the more rational Celtic supporter? How far out of touch has he become?

What next – hire David Leggat as head of PR?

Like I say, I find it almost incredulous – car-crash management. Truly his Achilles heel – unable to gauge the meme of the support despite the proliferation of blogs, forums and social media interaction; never has it been so easy to take the temperature of a broad body politic.

Appeasement for every enemy of the club and public persecution of our own?

You’re through the looking glass, Peter. You better find a white rabbit soon.

    Transparency? Don’t Make Me Laugh!

    Written by: Admin

    Monday, 16th December 2013

So where have they all gone? Have they lost their tongues? What has happened to them?

We refer of course to the band of self-righteous holier-than-thou fans spokesmen (and women), bloggers and website warblers who daily repeat ad nauseam their favourite buzzword – “transparency”.

STV initially stated Mark Dingwall had been suspended from the Rangers Supporters Trust (RST) Board for “improper conduct”. An RST Board spokesman is quoted thus:

“Mark Dingwall is currently serving a three-week suspension, pending an investigation into allegations of improper conduct. He will be given an ultimatum to resign from his position this week.”

    Subsequently the same outlet quoted the RST Chairman, and Mark Dingwall ally, Gordon Dinnie, but the story had changed slightly;

Mr, Dinnie stated that the complainant and Mr. Dingwall had “stood back from participation in the trust’s internal affairs whilst the complaint is being progressed as per the rules of the society”.

Meanwhile other trust board members contradict Mr. Dinnie, who seems a tad confused, by claiming Mr. Dingwall HAS been suspended. The internet buzzes with allegations of computer hacking and misappropriation of funds – both criminal offences. At least two RST Board members are said to have resigned over this matter, which will have to be reported to the Regulator as a point of law – not to mention Supporters Direct. The small matter of £250,000 of fans’ money dictates this.

And from the bloggers who like to refer to criminal acts and police investigations there remains silence.

Of course the man at the centre of this scandal is no stranger to controversy. Two years ago another RST Board member resigned in disgust having discovered Mr. Dingwall had “misappropriated” £2690 of RST/fans money for a period of over two years. In addition, allegations of unpaid print firm bills and missing Rangers Supporters Erskine Appeal (RSEA) money persist.

We think it would be fair to say that the RST have been Paul Murray’s biggest supporters in the battle for control of the Rangers Board. Indeed it was recently revealed that Mr. Murray has been orchestrating them with emails advising to push his agenda on their website of choice, “FollowFollow.com” – which just happens to be owned, operated and controlled by Mr. Dingwall.

Given these allegations of hacking, as a precaution, we have advised our members and would urge anyone with an account on any Mark Dingwall-controlled websites to be very wary, especially if your password for those sites is the same password you use for other ‘personal’ sites, such as your email, Twitter or Facebook. We are unaware as to the full extent of the websites Mr. Dingwall controls outwith FollowFollow.com, perhaps clarification should be sought as to the privacy procedures in place with the sites of the various organisations Mr. Dingwall is connected to.

Paul Murray is never short of a word or two – what has he got to say with regards to the turmoil and scandal his biggest allies find themselves in?

This whole episode absolutely stinks. The RST, if they are to retain any shred of decency and dignity, need to tell their members and the Rangers support as a whole what’s been going on and what they intend doing about it. If necessary, they must call the police – no half-hearted sound-bites, no cover-ups, the truth needs to come out.

Anyone observing the RST Facebook page will have noticed its viewing status has been changed to “secret” by another of Paul Murray’s RST email buddies. This hardly instils confidence.

Meanwhile those who’ve posted and blogged daily regarding transparency who have now fallen silent should hang their heads in shame.

Finally, a comment from a Moderator on the RangersMedia.com website today:

“Mark Dingwall believes the Data Protection Act is optional, given that he openly asked RangersMedia to break it in April.”

  17. Neil Lennon has held talks with the Dutch centre half with a view to a short term deal.

Loovens, 30, made 89 appearances in four years at Parkhead before leaving 17 months ago to join Real Zaragoza.

He’s now at Sheffield Wednesday but his deal there ends next month.

Loovens was in Glasgow last month to discuss his future and told Lennon he’d jump at the chance of a move back.

He’s now waiting to hear if a deal can be done in the transfer window.

Lennon could see Loovens as a back-up for Virgil van Dijk and Efe Ambrose while summer signing Steven Mouyokolo battles back from injury.

I think the board know who brings more to the club. The fans, and not the MSM. But they have hamstrung themselves by their failure to defend the fans in the face of a media onslaught.

If the board had a record of defending the fans,we wouldn’t have seen the lurid and hyperbolic reactions to Amsterdam,Fir Park and the Bobby Sands banner.

Because if they had,it would be referred to as the Wallace/Sands banner, for instance. And someone might actually have asked about structural failure at Fir Park.

  24. CELTIC pair Georgios Samaras and Joe Ledley have not expressed a desire to leave the club, according to a Celtic official.

The duo, who are out of contract in the summer, have both been linked with moves away from Glasgow, with Ledley on Cardiff City’s radar and Samaras wanted by MLS outfit Toronto and Hull City.

However, the Daily Express are reporting that neither player have indicated their intention to leave and that talks are ongoing over contract extensions.

Reports from Greece suggested that 28-year-old striker Samaras, signed from Manchester City in 2008, had been asked to take a pay cut in order to stay at the Scottish champions.

Samaras has stated he wants to remain at Parkhead, and the fact ambitious Canadian outfit Toronto have already signed Gilberto Oliveira Souza – one of three targets including Samaras and Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe – could increase the chances of the Greek striker staying in Scotland.

Despite rumours that Celtic were keen to sell the pair in January to recoup some money, manager Neil Lennon is thought to be anxious to hold on to the pair, who have become key components in his squad following the departures of Gary Hooper, Kelvin Wilson and Victor Wanyama.

Samaras has netted 44 goals in 145 appearances for Celtic, while Ledley has scored 18 goals in 98 games.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell revealed in September that the club had opened talks with Welsh international Ledley, who has made 46 appearances for his country, but the midfielder – one of the club’s highest earners – hinted during the summer that he could form a decision on his future based on which players left the club, and could enter into pre-contract negotiations in January.
