Stunning work by Celtic supporters

689

Five years ago when CQN’er Kano was confined to hospital with a debilitating illness Pablophanque was first to issue the call, “We need to raise the money to bring Kano home”.  In the weeks which followed the Bring Martin Home campaign launched.  The campaign succeeded and then some; the Kano Foundation is its lasting legacy.

While working in Holland in May 2011 Pablophanque took ill suddenly and died a few days later, leaving two young-adult children to deal with matters a long way from home.  As the news filtered through of his death, the call went out in the comments section here to raise money to bring his remains home.  One day later Pablo’s son was told the money was there and to confirm arrangements.

Pablo’s estate has recently been settled and his son and daughter wanted to repay the generosity shown to them when they needed it most.  Mary’s Meals are now in receipt of £4500 from them towards our CQteN Malawi School Kitchen Appeal.  It is an enormous gesture by two young people and shows the level of appreciation they have to those who helped them in 2011.

Raising money is hard and I remember telling Pablo his idea was ambitious, to say the least.  There has never been a spontaneous movement like Bring Martin Home and the Kano Foundation.  Many of those who made the call for Pablo were inspired by Bring Martin Home.  The cumulative impact of this generosity is quite stunning.

My thanks to Pablo’s son, daughter and brother for this fantastic support, inspired, as it was, by the wider Celtic community. I never use the ‘Greatest fans in the world’ line, largely as I don’t think there is much competition, but the Celtic support are among the finest human beings you could hope to meet.

Thanks also to everyone who booked a seat or table for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day Party at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 14 March, where we hoped to raise the bulk of the money for the school kitchen.  If you want know what it’s all about, read Friday’s article.

  2. Not that this is in anyway a trusted source and neither am I suggesting the lad should be a January target but that sort of money is twice our typical outlay:

“Dundee United could cash in on Gauld if the right price is offered, with The Sun reporting that the Terrors could let Gauld leave for a fee of around £3.75 million. (The Sun)”

I know it all seems really underhand especially when politicians become embroiled. But it’s a but like having a rich owner who plies money into your club.

I’m also sure that the Celtic supporter John McGuinness ‘donated’ money to the club when he had his lottery win.

Likewise the Hun ned, whose name escapes me, made a contribution of £1m to his club.

Is it really all that different?

I hope it goes all the way. I like some of the clubs involved, especially Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona, but I hope it happens because I am naive enough to believe in the principles of financial fair play. I want football to be fair. I want football back.

I don’t think he is interested in football, he is very involved in globalist affairs though. My comment was, given the things I’ve read about Solana, if there is corruption in Spanish Sport, with him being so influential, Globally, behind the scenes, Well if he needed a favour, he would be accomodated. All these scumbags are linked.

    You`re a good man.

Particularly in view of the fact that, unless I`m much mistaken, the views expressed don`t conform to your own.

Completely agree. I’d cap transfer fees, wages, bonuses and get the players back to realising just how fortunate they are.

But I’m an idealist when it comes to this. Modern football really is rubbish.

Anyone watch the sky2 programme about east coast trains? Had a bit about the Newcastle Sunderland derby and the impact on the city centre and the station. Makes a bunch of weans ripping us seats into prospective. Their msm did good job hiding this, it’s when Sunderland won 3-0, and Newcastle fans attacked their station!

You’re right….I am totally depressed this evening…..turned on Sky News tonight and the main story is about child abuse / neglect in England, where a senior expert on the subject states that he is seriously worried about the dramatic increase, and that Social Services are not coping with this rapidly deteriorating situation………THEN, it turns out PEERS are attending the Commons for the statutory 20 minutes, going home, and claiming £300 attendance fee for that day …… The whole fabric of society is falling apart…….WHAT ARE OUR POLITICIANS DOING….!!?? ….. Apart from reducing Police numbers / increasing politicians’ salaries, NOTHING…..ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY DISGUSTING

  23. Kojo 23:02,

I have 2 Big Sisters who won’t have kids but they are happy with Life, both of them are the most amazing and involved Aunties to my wee laddie, they really are amazing to him and well, he Loves them to bits, he is still relatively shy but is definitely coming out of his shell now.

His Mammy sent me a text tonight to try and get a regular guitar lesson for him on a Saturday down my neck of the woods.

I think your Love for Celtics own grown players is very telling and on this I agree 110%. The only way we can get to the next level is by developing a whole team in house, IMO, especially if we are just buying to sell.

I’m a bit disappointed we have not blooded more players since the huns were liquidated but it isn’t easy to keep players on good money, happy, by leaving them out of the Team.

  24. truly brilliant gesture by pablos kids , he would be so proud of them . i never knew the man just as i dont know any of you great posters , but nonetheless i was moved to tears the night i read of his sad passing ,while reading all of the tributes everyone was posting& playing all his fav songs .
