The beating of Barca, II. This time it’s Tony.

1064

Where do we start discussing last night?  Perhaps the end of the night.  There was joy in abundance, not only inside Celtic Park, but in the streets surrounding the game and in a hundred thousand homes across the world.  This joy manifest itself into a great sense of community.  That performance brought tears, hugs, spontaneous jumping up and down, and not only from Celtic fans.  Messages have poured in from fans of other SPL clubs and beyond.

This is what great sport can do for people.

Brother Walfrid has excellent timing.  He managed to arrange our kick-off meeting to coincide with match day four of the Champions League group stage.  Those of us who attended the anniversary celebrations on Tuesday were reminded what Celtic is all about, the best team in the world were in Glasgow waiting to play, the fairy tale script was written, but could it be delivered?

It’s the details which are most impressive.  Mikael Lustig looked like he could play in any team in any league.  He was comfortable and composed throughout.  Adam Matthews, deputising for an injured former Player of the Year, played out of position flawlessly.  I watched him struggle at left back on his Celtic Park debut in a friendly against Wolves last year; it defies explanation how far he has progressed.

Please forget about Victor’s goal, it will only detract from his incredible midfield performance.  His composure, skill and assertiveness troubled Iniesta and Messi all game.  This was all the more impressive given the absence of captain, Scott Brown.

Georgios Samaras was crucial for most of the evening.  He was the one player Barca seemed afraid of, although a lack of training caught up with him before he was subbed.

I’ll not burden Tony Watt publicly with the comparison I made of him earlier in the season but he possesses an impressive array of attributes: upper body strength, pace-with-the-ball and a nose for goal.  I’m tempted to say he will continue to improve but, to what level?  Without injuries to Hooper, Lassad and Forrest it’s unlikely he would have enjoyed as much time last night.  Sometimes Fortune Favours the Celtic.

All of Europe would have been impressed with Fraser Forster last night, dubbed La Grand Muralla, the Big Wall, by a Spanish newspaper.  He will play for England, so too with Kelvin Wilson if he maintains this season’s form.

The only man with a problem today is Neil Lennon.  Tactically the two games against Barcelona have been as accomplished as any I have witnessed.  Neil needs to know how to follow that in Lisbon. I’ve no idea.

Happy Birthday Celtic!

When Paul mentioned Voodoo in his article,as bizarre inc. said in their song ,it gave me ‘such a good feeling’ which reminds me to give a nod to South Of Tunis for mentioning the very excellent Voodoo Ray by A Guy Called Gerald,a song which brings back lots of memories of my mispent (sp) youth ,I just somehow knew we would have a good night, wee things just click personally,Paul talking about Voodoo was a bit astounding of forehead for me,its took me a good few years but through sheer determination and practise I can actually play on the guitar, properly,Voodoo Chile by you know who,so Paul’s mention of it stirred up the Gods Of Great Things, elite, quality, the best bar none, like the Celtic Triangle,a metaphor for me,a tribeca of connection in the universal mind-Celtic,Jimi Hendrix and Voodoo it all made sense,if you ever happen to watch Hendrix’ performance of Voodoo Chile on the Lulu show, somewhere on youtube, you will hear on every riff the attitude of Fraser Forster palming balls over the bar,Victor Wanyama looking down his nose at the best midfield in football,Charlie Mulgrew working his socks off to maintain the rhythm and Tony Watt making the result secure like the master givin’ the whammy bar it laldy.

    Voodoo Chile?

That means your tapped, tapped on the shoulder by the big man himself,we witnessed it last night to a place in Glasgow that shines in a darkness led by a man who should be canonized, one Neil Francis Lennon.

Last night will live forever in my memory, more importantly it will live forever with my daughter.

She is not new to Celtic, she got the bug when we watched the Seville game, but last night was special.

Another generation of Tims “got it” last night.

She has been a member of the Oscars Green Bucket Army, she lives in a Hun free SPL, she lives through changing times as she grows up. Her generation will get used to a level playing field, as much as there can be in Scotland, and she will not accept anything less.

The future is our children’s, it is Green and White.

Still emotional from last night, sorry if overly so.

Last night there was a guy with his wife/girlfriend at the game. I can’t remember the incident but he started going mental, shoutin’ abuse at the ref. He was completely oblivious to his wife/girlfriend looking at him like he was totally insane. :))))

I’m still in wonder of our fans last night. The whole team were as one last night but I have to say the dirty work at the coal face was done brilliantly by Joe Ledley. Wembley Wembley we are the famous Glasgow Celtic and we’re off to Wembley.HH.

If we want to progress – then things like the Barca warm up and what lies behind it – is the way to go

If we could improve fitness and reaction times by 10% that would give us a better chance against better quality opponents

Don’t know anything about the McGuinness chap – but with a name like that he must have something going for him!

My young fella phoned me last night in tears, that started me off again, and no ashamed to admit it.

I even heard a hun on snyde earlier saying that when Tony scored our second goal the hairs on the back of his neck stood up…..now that is something.

Cant believe any Celtic supporter would want that scum to survive, the assault on our manager was roundly cheered by the majority of them, sober up.

We may be at the start of something special, Neil Lennon has built a young team, the scouting system is working, we are going places with this team.

He was, fair play to the fella, he was magnanimous. His team didn’t get beat, but you know what I mean.

Liverpool supporter called Tony, sounded more like a Hun than the Hun.

Jealousy is a terrible thing, how did his team get on in Europe’s second division?

  19. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Doc..,

I believe their demise will hasten the demise of the sfa and the restructuing of scottish football, the sfa are fully responsible for all the problems in the game, due diligence is being ignored due to favoritism.

Heard that last night. You ought to have heard the numpty on Talk Sport abt 5ish. Im talk abt the guy who was taking the calls btw.

  21. Doc is Neil Lennon

Yeah he was, thought he might end it with a sevco rant but he didnt.

More worried about getting ripped by his mates, hope he wasnt

    talking literally.

  22. TET, I was at the game at CP after Hillsborough, I gained a great respect for the Liverpool fans that day, we mixed, they weren’t sure at first, but we just talked to them, no segregation.

I did hate them when they stole Kenny though.

  23. Doc

I am actually surprised that how quickly I have forgotten about them, I love the pain they are going through, but as each day goes by, I think and care less and less about them.

The football is all the better for not having them poulute out game, I know they will be back soon enough, but for now, it’s sheer bliss.

  24. Canamalar.

I’m just looking at the bigger picture.

The sfa did everything to accommodate the deid club and will be looking for any avenue possible to get thems back.

I have no likings for the sons of the hunchback I can assure you.

I just don’t trust the powers that be.hh
